Speedzilla
i was just out at welch today. conditions for carving were good except for the flat light. the bad news is they set up moguls on jon jon and duds dream (next to dan's dive).i broke my rear heel of my boot. i was just about to go down dan's dive. i was heading over to the start of the run when my boot popped out of the binding. i clamped the boot back into the binding but it felt really loose. i called it quits and went back to my car. that's when i discovered the crack. wonder how long that had been there. WTF!!! OVER! That sucks Bob, have you got any spare boots to use?
bobble
i have a pair that bob d. gave me. they feel a little loose.
Speedzilla
Have you located the extra 15 runs they added at Welch this year? I see what appears to be a couple new "double blacks" on their trail map, but I'm still coming up about 12-13 runs short of 50.
Scuff
The Great Minnesota Get Together! TGMGT - It's not only a good time, It's a Palindrome! Brad: Hope to see ya Sunday! It's a good group, and good time. Too bad you can't swing Tuesday though... Speedy: Yeah....I'm not so good at math but I can't figure how Welch is getting 50 either.. Unless they count the man runs as...eight... (hmm...carry the 1. and err....Nope!) Bobble: AGHH! Bummer! I got a spair pair of UPS boots you can borrow.. they are only just a little cracked..kinda roomy.. 13US 30.5 Mondo.. er something.. Ooh Ooh! Can I try your helmet cam this year?!? Come on Minnesot-ers... Represent!! http://www.frappr.com/hardbooters/photos ~Karl

rather_wakeboard
Don't you guys work all day? What are you doing surfing a snowboard site? I'll show up as long as the conditions aren't frozen sugar balls on a sheet of ice. And before you all ask... No, I wasn't able to get Dean to come this year, He's too "busy" at work now to go snowboarding... at all... probably for the whole season. :(
kirtap
I want to come so bad because I've never gotten to carve or ride with other hardbooters since I started about 2 years ago. But over Christmas break, I was playing soccer and partially tore my mcl, so im on crutches for the time being and probably wont be out on the snow again for a good 4-5 weeks. So have fun for me. Strider
So, it looks like we will definitely be there. Going to drive up tonight after our race league gets finished. I was wondering where on the hill/chalet are you guys going to meet up? I know its not a huge place, but figured we might as well not spend the morning chasing over the hill looking for hradbooters. I also assume people will be out there at 10.

I think the plan is to start riding at around 10am, but stay on those front slopes for a while and wait for any late arrivals.
johnstewart
How's the snow up there? I've got crud all over the bottom of my boards from riding on the slush/tar mix here.
johnstewart
And anyone have a recommendation on a cheap motel as near as possible to the hill? Sounds like $trider (aka Brett) wants to drive up tonight. Is Rochester our best bet?

I haven't been to Welch this year, I have no idea what to expect. Highs are near 40 degrees tomorrow.
BobD
More like 35 degrees, but it shouldn't get above freezing until after lunch. The high today (Monday) is 22 and low tonight about 21. The snow should be good, so long as they don't have every snow gun on the hill blowing. Then again, when the conditions are marginal, the forcast doesn't have to be out much for the conditions to go either way.
trent
the snow cover at welch is good, and conditions have been good to great, depending on the day. on saturday conditions varied from firm packed groomed to soft groomed. some of it right next to the other so you'd go from on top of the snow, to diving into the soft stuff, all in the same carve. of course the best runs were covered with ussa racing, so we didn't get on those. tomorrow, we'll do our best to destroy those runs. :D but you shouldn't have to worry about any dirt, unless you're off the beaten path. might be a little slushy by the end of the day. but that's only if they've got the weather forecast right.... -trent
trent
on places to stay, sorry can't really give you much help there. you may also want to look at red wing. there's a casino there, but i don't know about prices www.treasureislandcasino.com just make sure to keep some money for your lift ticket tomorrow! -trent
johnstewart
Awesome; we were going to stay in Rochester, but with that being so close, and with the potential for me to play some poker until the wee hours, we're going to stay at the casino. It's $70 for the night (plus taxes I'm sure), or with two lift tickets it is $140... so $35 for the lift tickets. This way we can lose all of our money and still ski tomorrow. =) It looks like tix are normally $40, so I'm going to book the package... unless any of you locals know of a way to get lift tickets for under $35. thanks! Bubba
Old Key: I coach three kids on our d-team who are on race boards. Maybe we could all hook up after the competition season, somewhere between Hyland and Rochester....Maybe Afton? I am going to try and be at Welch tomorrow but dont know if it will happen because I have an interview in the cities at 11:00. If you are there we can chat then. oldkey
....left you an email. I will not be at Welch. As a reminder, my son races.....I'm just the board tech and photographer....and accounts payable. Patrick has school (14) and can't skip (his mother would kill me!) Look forward to having our kids ride together.
BobD
Great snow, blue skies and good fun. Great bunch of people to ride with. Thanks again Dave for the birthday lunch. BobD
Speedzilla
A very good time was had by all! Great weather, good snow, no crowds, and a group of a dozen great carvers. Bob, it was Trent's idea to buy you lunch, I just beat him to the punch. So, when is the next one?!
johnstewart
Aye, good to meet y'all. It was an excellent day for skiing. Sore as hell today; too many attempts to follow y'all in those steep carves, followed by me wussing out about the mach 10 speed, then me washing out because I couldn't keep the edge pressure. It was a ton of fun being the only people on some of those runs; all those beautiful tracks. I hope y'all got some good pictures. Brett and I will let you know when we've got video online (at least a couple of good shots).
