hey Cbr. there's two or three other turn specialists that i know of that infrequently visit the crotch. some on this forum, some not. expect the worst and work with it as best you can. small hill. I did take notice that grooming has improved the past couple of seasons. better than sunapee IMO. we'll just have to wait and see how it pans out this year. see you out there. -Dave

🌧️ 🎵🏂
“I'm carvin' in the rain!
Just carvin' in the rain!
What a glorious feeling
I'm happy again!”

We had rain, freezing rain, some snow, LOTS of fog, and wide ear-to-ear grins. What we did not have: typical weekend crowds.

The snow held up exceptionally well (much longer than my legs 😂) and the only challenge was the low visibility.

For my first day out, I’ll take it!

Anyone in the group ride at Crotched?  I'm a weekday transplant from Massachusetts (Wawa, and BEast) and will be up here all winter.  Just throwing it out there.

👋hey! Also transplant from MA (years ago) and rode regularly at BEast. Still get back to BEast a few times a year. Crotched is my home mountain since 2017.

Got a few laps in this morning before the rain. No crowds again.

Some thin spots on Satellite Summit and Moonwalk. Bare spots on Magnitude. Meteor and Galaxy still have good cover. Stubby/brush practice gates set on Galaxy made some fun runs on my 9m scr Pure Boarding Two.

It was not me on Tuesday. I'm using bright orange/red UPZ boots and typically a blue and green Patagonia shell.

I was there today carving in the rain (again). Hey... snowboarding in the rain is still snowboarding! 🤪

I'll take snowboarding in the rain any day over sitting inside and complaining about the weather.

i ride the newer orange/red UPZ as well. could've been @workshop7 but think he just does softboot now. gonna check out the crotch for a couple hours mid day today. i don't expect much after three days of falling water and in the 40's+. thankful to see just cloudy today and somewhat colder temps upon us. geesh, what a tough week for the snowpack and that wet storm wreaking havoc the week prior. frig'n north east bs. the two month window of "winter" is upon us now. snow making equipment gets returned end of February if that's still the case.

CONDITIONS: rode about 12:30-2. three ways down of the 980' vertical. racing on Meteor was closed until about 12:38. racing stopped just after 11 and sat idle for lunch and then final laps or clean up... idk for sure, i was driving. saw the racing on the webcam so i called the "local" number. after about six attempts to try to contact the mountain about an eta on the racing finishing up, i just went. there is no way to contact the mountain directly. upon following numerous prompts, all i got was the vail call center. that's all you'll get i guess. seems weird if an emergency were to happen. even the special 234 extension i was advised to use didn't help. anyways, as expected, all very soft, wet and mashed potatoeee. more of a surf than a carve. rocket shut down temporarily for a half hour or so; what's new? head on a swivel. some straight liners around going for fastest time on their apps. the three jumps in park are of solid size. looked like 20' to 25' to 30'. great setup for the jumpers. so temped!!!!!! but stayed on the ground. gotta be working with a good 8" for a base right about now. looking forward to the freeze and maybe try Monday for a few. lincoln tues pm through thursday i think. HNY!

Today was nice. Not great carving but good cover and recovery from recent rain. Those guns were blasting all day and night! 👍❄️❄️❄️ Super props to amazing snow making and mountain ops team!

For the first hour it was mostly empty and I was able to find firm groom near the bottom of Galaxy, Magnitude, and Meteor. Upper mountain was mostly piles of machine made fresh which turned into bumpy moguls by 11:00. My last run was about 11:45.

Great finally running into the elusive and ever lightning fast, even on softies, @dhamann! Good to finally connect and meet you, @cbrkid1981

Re: plutos. Was there for a couple hours yesterday am. Heard they’ve been blowing for four days. Surprised it wasn’t packed down for today, regardless of being open. All in due time I suppose.

About 20 laps on plutos is on the menu for tomorrow if they groom it. Small alpine race car to start and softies change if necessary.

I saw you from the lift and again waiting at the top of Plutos on my last two runs. I only stuck around until about 9:45 after skinning up earlier in the morning. Meteor was nice, which is typically too busy for carving. I should be around most of the day Friday and I'll have my carving deck in addition to my split.
