Husqvarna makes all kinds of dirtbikes, but that example is a "supermotard" - basically a dirtbike with street wheels and tires. I've never ridden one, but apparantly they are very fun and inspire very illegal thoughts. There is a whole supermotard racing organization and everything. I got a chance to see one of the pros ride the track at Loudon NH, and seeing someone throw a bike sideways coming into a corner on pavement is jaw-dropping. (like this)

I've done both their racing school and a street-rider day. Unless you want to start an amateur racing hobby/career, definitely do the street-rider day. Simply more track time in a more relaxed environment. I'm probably going to do the one in September, probably with Bob.

I did the penguin school and it is basically a day of showing you the line on the track not a lot of "riding tools" or drills that get worked on. If your looking for skills I would look into a Keith Code school they actually give you drills and skills to work on and really are quite good i am sure there are others that are excellent as well.

I have been doing some days with the team Pormotion group this year and have been enjoying that a lot especially since I just bought an Aprilia RS 250 for my track bike. I have a ducati 851 but that is not nearly as much fun on the track as the rs is. You gotta love a 300lb 2 stroke!!!

Lee, when i lived in Vail/Beaver creek I met a bunch of locals that had cr250's. You've got ALOT of legit riding out there. Here, we have to run from the enviro cops.

When did you live in Vail/Beaver Creek ? If one of the local you met who owned husky cr250 and is deaf, that's the guy who sold me this bike. Modded and a bit scary at times. And I can't see the photo you posted (not the CR250, the one afterwards).

BTW, the mini-moto track in the woods out next to Dillon Cemetary's tight and twisty. ride there often to hone out tree-riding skills. hope it'd pay off in the long run, when i get on the 'tards. Just hate it when its super tight tight (that my handlebar barely brushes thru)

Props to Keith Code school. I own those two books (Twist something), and learn quite a bit from it. Unfortunely I cannot put it in a good use til I purchase either a track bike or a 'tard, preferablly both. From the looks of it, looks like Ill be sticking to a 2-strokes bike, even tho its a dying breed.

Yup, it's definately not me.Good call tho. NEDB is a great site.Lee, the guys we met lived on the other side of 70 up by Chris Karol's house. They could just ride down the street onto some sweet high desert trails.I'll post another shot from the dual sport last sunday, which I DID NOT participate in due to my kiting addiction.Looks like ALOT of fun tho. Nash , do you know about the CF charity ride next month that starts at Loudon ?

I could into the Sept 28th Street Rider Track Day. I've always wanted to do the Penguin School too. Back when I used to sell bikes here in Boston, I was given a Penguin School hat by a buddy at Vanson Leathers. It's been on the list of things to do for a long time. Shifter carts are also on that list and hoping to get on it this summer. http://www.endurancekarting.com/2005/Events/5.Boston.html

Guest Randy S.

You guys need to come out here for track days. We have loads of great tracks (Sears Point, Laguna Seca, Thunderhill, Buttonwillow, Streets of Willow (and the big track), Reno-Fernley, all within a few hours. Plus there's now a place near SF that rents sport bikes (I don't know how they'd feel about taking it to a track day though).

The only hitch is you need to plan ahead. Track days fill up out here - the good ones anyway. The good thing is that from now until October you can be guaranteed it will not rain on your track day (but most tracks get hot - 100 isn't uncommon). Laguna Seca and Sears Point (Infineon) aren't cheap, but the others are usually reasonable. I have a day booked June 4 at Reno-Fernley (my first trip there) and a few days at Thunderhill in July and August. Am I the only Tahoe Area carver who is also a track junkie?

OK, I posted a pic of my bike earlier, but with someone else riding it. Here's a pic of me riding it last Sunday. In fact, I'll show one here and give a list of links to others. Some are kinda cool. I like this one because I took my left hand off the clipon at 75mph in mid-turn to give the peace sign (he didn't take my pic next lap when I used a different finger). I'm too cheap to pay for the pic, that's why it has a copyright watermark on it.

Here are the others:
