Ski/Snowboard Rental in Aspen?

I'm bringing some friends to Aspen with me this year, two of which will need to be renting equipment (a skier and a snowboarder, both of whom haven't been on snow for a bit). I was going to suggest that they rent equipment here in NY, for potential savings, but it occurred to me that if they did, they would have to pay for their travel dates, and if there was a problem with their equipment they would be up a creek. So I think I am going to suggest that they rent in Aspen. Does anyone have any insights as to where they should rent? I don't think these guys are going to care about being on the latest-and-greatest technology, I think they probably just want good equipment that is well maintained, and beyond that, reasonable prices (*errr ... for aspen) and good service. Any suggestions?

Rent local is what I would do.

You don't need to carry gears to/from the airport.

You save money on checked luggages.

You don't paid rental on travel days.

You can demo new stuff

I would check with the place you are staying with.

They usually have some deals with local ski shop.

http://www.aspensnowmass.com/onmountain/rental_pricing.cfm Renting in advance might save a bit. My wife rented from them last year and it was very convienient. If you have any issues with the gear they are on all 4 mountains. You might be able to turn them in at the end of the day rather than transporting . . .

Last time I went I used the official mountain rental place. Got great demo skis and I could swap them wherever I wanted. Also of note, you can check your skis in at the end of the day at any resort and tell them where you'll be the next day. They'll transfer the skis there for you to pick up in the morning.
