fin
Just got back in the office from a great few days down down in Telluride, CO for a World Cup PGS (Dec 16, 2010). This was my first visit to a World Cup and I have to say I was blown away! The level of racing was high and the organization of the race and course was incredible. To be there watching the best of the best battle it out is something all carvers should see and experience at least once. The weather was a bit snowy but the temps where mild and there was no wind so it was actually good racing conditions. Results are below and you can see the final ladder finish for the dual formats here: Men's: http://www.fis-ski.com/pdf/2011/SB/7038/7038RLRF.pdf Women's: http://www.fis-ski.com/pdf/2011/SB/7037/7037RLRF.pdf Taken from the FIS-Snowboard website: ________________________________________________________________ Fraenzi Maegert-Kohli (SUI) and Rok Flander (SLO) have won the second parallel giant slalom of the 2011 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup. In Telluride, Colorado, the reigning Parallel Slalom World Champion from Switzerland edged off Germany’s Isabella Laboeck in a close ladies’ finale thus securing a back-to-back win for the Swiss ladies’ team. World Cup leader Ekaterina Tudegesheva (RUS) came in third, Julia Dujmovits (AUT) placed fourth. On the men’s side, Rok Flander successfully competed against Kaspar Fluetsch (SUI), who – just like Laboeck – secured his career’s best result by finishing as runner-up. In the Austrian battle for third, Manuel Veith crossed the finish line ahead of his team mate Benjamin Karl. By claiming victory in the USA today, Maegert-Kohli and Flander underlined that they are in perfect shape with no parallel race to come anymore prior to the 9th FIS Snowboard World Championships taking place in La Molina, Spain, next January. Already at the last stop of the international event series in Limone Piemonte, Italy, the Slovenian and the Swiss riders had caused some furore finishing fourth and second respectively. According to her back-to-back podium, 28-years-old Maegert-Kohli offered a positive summary. “At the moment, I’m feeling very good. I’m having confidence and am able of keeping hold to the momentum. I exactly knew what to do to be fast. And I knew that I would win this race. I’m super happy,” Maegert-Kohli said. In contrary to the sixth best ladies’ qualifier, who never had to catch up a gap against Svetlana Boldykova (RUS), Camille de Faucompret (FRA) as well as Tudegesheva and Laboeck, Rok Flander had to show that he is capable of making up time. In his eighth finale against Ingemar Walder he turned the match around, in his quarter finals against Matthew Morison he proofed nerves of steel by winning by the tiny bit of eight hundredths coming off from a tied first run. And while the semi final against Veith wasn’t a big affair, he had to catch up five hundredths again in the finals against Fluetsch. A day full of hard work for Flanders, who finally got rewarded for it. “Finally again,” was his first comment as Flanders had waited for his 4th win in 104 World Cup starts for more than two and a half years (La Molina). That the 31-years-old would bring home a top podium finish, however, was still a surprise for the 2007 PGS World Champion. “I wasn’t sure if everything would work out,” “Flanderos” said, who raced for the first time with some new equipment. “I tried out a new combination of plate and board. Back home I wasn’t able to test it as there was too much snow fall. So, I’m super stoked that it worked out.” BIG FINAL 1 5 1471684 FLANDER Rok SLO 1000.00 2 7 1514943 FLUETSCH Kaspar SUI 800.00 SMALL FINAL 3 3 1054999 VEITH Manuel AUT 600.00 4 16 1054984 KARL Benjamin AUT 500.00 1/4 FINALS 5 11 1093190 PROMMEGGER Andreas AUT 32.50 32.03 1:04.53 450.00 6 15 7100122 MORISON Matthew CAN 32.92 31.79 1:04.71 400.00 7 46 1394278 SCHOCH Philipp SUI 32.38 32.40 1:04.78 360.00 8 17 7560012 MARGUC Rok SLO 33.07 32.04 1:05.11 320.00 1/8 FINALS 9 23 1547053 UNTERKOFLER Anton AUT 32.07 32.42 1:04.49 290.00 10 37 1654238 DEMSAR Jernej SLO 32.45 32.30 1:04.75 260.00 11 1 1514944 GALMARINI Nevin SUI 32.83 31.93 1:04.76 240.00 12 9 1163127 FISCHNALLER Roland ITA 32.77 32.13 1:04.90 220.00 13 10 1394181 SCHOCH Simon SUI 32.26 32.80 1:05.06 200.00 14 22 1155658 WALDER Ingemar AUT 32.31 32.78 1:05.09 180.00 15 8 1311828 GRABNER Siegfried AUT 32.56 32.55 1:05.11 160.00 16 14 1514852 HALDI Roland SUI 32.33 32.79 1:05.12 150.00 17 28 1560730 DUFOUR Sylvain FRA 32.58 32.69 1:05.27 140.00 18 2 1699731 WILD Vic USA 32.31 33.02 1:05.33 130.00 19 6 7538766 MARCH Aaron ITA 32.65 32.75 1:05.40 120.00 20 24 7560001 SUSTERSIC Izidor SLO 33.08 32.34 1:05.42 110.00 21 18 1659088 KOSIR Zan SLO 32.92 32.58 1:05.50 100.00 22 43 1154985 SINDELAR Petr CZE 32.56 33.10 1:05.66 90.00 23 12 7100005 LAMBERT Michael CAN 32.87 32.81 1:05.68 80.00 24 29 9480117 SOBOLEV Andrey RUS 32.86 32.83 1:05.69 70.00 25 21 7050136 LEITENSTORFER Daniel AUT 33.70 32.00 1:05.70 60.00 26 26 7050030 LAUSEGGER Andreas AUT 32.83 32.89 1:05.72 50.00 27 20 1239175 KLUG Chris USA 32.28 33.48 1:05.76 45.00 28 4 1576541 DETKOV Stanislav RUS 31.97 33.87 1:05.84 40.00 29 25 1484979 BELKIN Aleksandr RUS 33.70 32.48 1:06.18 36.00 30 34 7535029 TRAPP Michael USA 32.98 33.33 1:06.31 32.00 31 39 9510070 VAN WIJNKOOP David SUI 34.94 32.93 1:07.87 28.00 32 19 1442390 BUSSLER Patrick GER 36.54 32.31 1:08.85 26.00 33 33 1204967 KOEPF Maximilian GER 33.31 24.00 34 30 9290025 MICK Christoph ITA 33.36 22.00 34 31 1224981 MCLEISH Adam GBR 33.36 22.00 36 38 1104982 FARRELL Patrick CAN 33.37 19.70 37 40 1204999 BERGMANN Alexander GER 33.41 19.40 38 36 9560018 HAFNER Jure SLO 33.52 19.10 39 42 1548993 SORTEBERG Garrett USA 33.55 18.80 40 41 9100098 CARTER Matthew CAN 33.60 18.50 41 44 1588375 TOZAKI Hiroki JPN 33.63 18.20 42 45 1514951 HEIM Corsin SUI 34.25 17.90 43 53 9690013 GASCHPAROVYCH Oleksandr UKR 35.16 17.60 44 35 9100195 GARDNER Darren CAN 35.66 17.30 45 55 9530588 FIELDS Converse USA 36.23 17.00 46 51 9530791 ROSENCRANZ Ryan USA 36.58 16.70 47 48 1530001 BANKS Joshua USA 36.93 48 52 9530724 GOLDSCHEITTER Galen USA 37.54 49 50 9530614 PLACHTER Michael USA 38.12 50 49 9530794 ARGENTO Ezio USA 41.08 51 54 9530367 JOYCE Mackenzie USA 44.55 13 1666266 JEWELL Tyler USA DSQ 27 1694990 PENYAK Yosyf UKR DSQ 32 7300127 SHIBA Masaki JPN DSQ 47 9530816 MUSS Aaron USA DSQ

I had a chance to chat with Karl and I am going to do an interview with him soon to talk about the plate and its evolution. I have all the respect for someone who needs something and just makes it himself.
fin
Speaking of making it yourself, this racer had machined his own lower assemblies to accept the older style Burton step-in system. The shot of the day! This is me and Henry from Apex showing the love. However, Henry did not see that me entire jacket is a 3d scanner. But I am pretty sure Henry had a digital caliper in his glove. It's cool ;) Great guy and we chatted quite a bit about the present and future of plates. Last: the women's podium!
fin
Men's podium! This was quite an honor. Today we had a visit at the Bomber shop from the Schoch brothers, Simon and Phillip along with some of the Swiss Team members. (Simon fist on left, Phillip second from right) They stopped by on there way to Steamboat (Race on Monday) and I was able to give them the grand tour of the shop. They also needed to pick up some hardware that I hope to see under their feet at the next race ;) OK, as these guys left I envisioned (in my reality) a black helicopter swooping in from the sky and carrying them off as they sip peppermint schnapps from one of their world cup cup's. Buuuuut instead they left in a Dodge mini van. Just not the same exit I was hoping for. ;) Just kidding! Thanks for coming by guys and good luck Monday! fin
As a guy who looks at peoples feet for a living, couple of observations: Saw lots of racers using step-in systems. Note that even the winner of the men's, Rok Flander, was on SI. Is this a function of the plate now being used? Of course saw lots of racers on plates now. Quite a few Apex, we probably had 8+ racers on Boiler Plates, a smattering of Vist, and a small amount of Hangl. Boards of choice are still Kessler and SG right behind those. Saw a bit more Oxess boards as well.

Apex Insider
If you haven't been to a World Cup race, I encourage you to do so. Try to spend a couple of days if you can. The racers are all very approachable and if you are a gear junkie, you will be in heaven. Just the board lineup outside the dining room will have you delirious. Telluride was hugely rewarding for me. Watching the Apex Race Plate in action, under the boots of the top riders in the world and then winning 1st and 3rd - that's why I got into this business. Some pics: Canadian coaches Sylvain Jean and Mark Fawcett, Michael Lambert and yours truly at the opening party. It was quite the bash. I got these guys telling stories about the old days. A rare pleasure. Like I said, it was quite the party. Inversion shots were a big hit. Camille de Faucompret. One of the few ladies riding a new gen plate. Most were still on VIST. Camille again. She finished a strong 5th. Ekaterina Tudegesheva doing the tango. This is my favourite shot of the day. 3rd place finisher Manuel Veith. Phillip Schoch and I'm not sure who in the background. Winner Rok Flander Prommegger in front and another Austrian in the background. Simon Schoch Rok Flander after his win. Ladies podium. Fraenzi Maegert-Kohli, 1st. Isabella Laboeck, 2nd. Ekaterina Tudegesheva 3rd. Men's podium. Rok Flander, 1st. Kaspar Fluetsch, 2nd. Manuel Veith, 3rd. Rok wasting perfectly good champagne. Rok and Me. Just prior to this photo being taken, I reprimanded Rok for removing the Apex label from his plate. Manuel Veith. Having a super season with 2 straight podiums. Matt Morison lost to Rok Flander by an hair in the quarters. He could've easily been the winner. Very cool of Tyler to call me just before he left. He still owes me a beer. It was also a pleasure meeting Fin and Michelle. I appreciate Fin's dedication and passion for the sport. We are lucky to have him making gear for us. There are easier ways to make a living.
