CarvingScooby
IOC confirms Olympic luger dies after crash 9 minutes ago By STEPHEN WILSON AP Sports Writer VANCOUVER, British Columbia(AP)—The IOC has confirmed that a men’s Olympic luger from the country of Georgia has died after a crash during training. The International Olympic Committee says doctors were unable to revive Nodar Kumaritashvili, and the 21-year-old died at a hospital. IOC president Jacques Rogge says the death “clearly casts a shadow over these games.” Kumaritashvili lost control of his sled Friday, went over the track wall and struck an unpadded steel pole near the finish line at Whistler Sliding Center. http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/olympics/news?slug=txluglugerdies&prov=st&type=lgns GRAPHIC: http://www.tri-cityherald.com/1418/gallery/899552-a899514-t2.html Condolence to the family. Jonny
Just awful news. Scary sport that is - I've never been so terrified in my life, not even sailing in a hurricane, as I was on my one skeleton run.

Hans
Saw it just on my TV. Man that was an awful, awful, crash. I hope he didn't suffer. My stomach just rolls over if I see this again. I can't imagine that the competition on this track will go on. Too unsafe. These tracks must be forbidden immediately or must be made safer. Why weren't those concrete beams being covered? Unbelievable. This accident stood not on itself. Even more experienced athletes had troubles on this track, like Armin Zöggeler (Olympic champion 2002 and 2006). http://nos.nl/os2010/artikel/136301-georgische-rodelaar-overlijdt-na-crash.html
martyagt4
I find it incredible there is no catch fencing or padding in those areas. Hell even going 20 or 30 mph you'd hurt yourself hitting an unmovable steel beam. At 80 or whatever, he had no chance. Negligent at best. RIP, and condolences.
