Shocker!!

On our local hill Grouse Mountain, I take the posted snowfall report on their website as the first point of discussion on the true nature of the hill's snowpack.

I find that the much more accurate method is to call the restaurant and bar at the top of the mountain and to ask a bartender or server to look out the window and tell me exactly what they see... it's WAY more accurate.

I think the local news stations here are in bed with the ski resorts. When the mountains get any snow, the newscasters are fawning about all the new powder. When they don't say anything, its best to assume it sucks.

I don't believe anything on the local news regarding the amount & quality of the snow. However, it seems to me that the new snow depth reported by my local area is usually pretty accurate.

The term "packed powder" is almost meaningless.

Nice! I worked one winter at Guest Services at the resort in Fernie, B.C. and took special delight in being TOTALLY HONEST when people called our number instead of the snow phone number. My boss tried to dissuade me, but every single caller told me that they appreciated the honesty.:ices_ange
