Gecko
Gecko - I see.Tonight I picked up a half liter bottle of Stone Ruination IPA and a sixer of their regular IPA. Very very nice, but they tasted identical. Are they? interesting I thought I was the only one who noticed that....I drink Ruination when I know I'm gonna be eating really spicy food and all but once I have noticed that it tastes nearly the same as regular their IPA. I was thinking that since they don't make as much ruination as they do the regular it may be sitting around and losing its overly hoppiness. Tonight I am going out on a limb and trying Narragansett Porter...on paper it should be good since the recipe is from Trinity Brew house in Providence and it's brewed at Cottrell Brewery in Pawcatuck CT in small batches instead of Rochester NY in huge batches (besides I love Cottrell old Yankee Ale )

I personally don't like Narragansett at all, but I've spent plenty of nights at the Trintiy Brew house:D. Jack I bought a six of another Blond from Belgium called Affligem Blond very similar to Leffe's Blond For summer drinking one of my favs is Dortmunder Aktien Bräuerei (DAB)
willywhit
this stuff is silly good and evidently this years batch is far better than last years http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3818/40058 11% abv http://drinkcraftbeer.com/the_news/latest_news/southern_tier_imperial_choklat_stout_-_coming_soon.html
Gecko
Geoff, I grew up avoiding Gansette...but as I understand it they bought the name and threw away the old recipe. I have only drunk the Bock and the Porter. My pallet doesn't always appreciate Bocks, so I will need to try it again with food that wasn't so dominant (I had it with very spicy indian food). The porter on the other hand was a pleasant surprise, smokey, chocolaty sweet, very drinkable

Jack M
Jack I bought a six of another Blond from Belgium called Affligem Blondvery similar to Leffe's Blond Yeah, I've tried that. It's very good but I wouldn't say it's very similar to Leffe. A lot of Belgian abbey beers have kind of a winey bite, Affligem and Chimay included. Leffe does not. xxguitarist
They sell 90 minute in sixers now? Good, I hate this 4-pack trend. Only good for one sitting! ;)But again, what is the point of aging filtered beer? Without sediment in the bottle, nothing is happening, right? Speaking from experience, the DFH 90 does mellow out after a few (5 or so) years in the champagne style bottle, tastes significantly different from the fresh stuff. In a good way, too. xxguitarist
Had several new brews last night. Some of them were very good, too! I'll post all of them later.. I'm forgetful. One that I remember was the Stone smoked porter- wow they weren't joking about the smoked part. This is one for with some heavy food, probably BBQ. Might be able to go with some strong/rich cheese or dessert too.

If you get a chance to have it, drink it. You will drink more than 1.
