MUD
no matter where you go the same argument is always had over burton"its quality" "it sucks" "burton's original snowboarding" "burton's walmart" i wish i could find that picture of the dead horse being kicked around that got used a while ago... pretend its right <here>(here). I think it's funny that a company SO involved with it from the beginning stirs such emotion...... If it wasn't for them, snowboarding would not be what it is today. We should at least be somewhat proud of it (them)........ </here>

Corey
Isn't that a viewer-submitted video? The video isn't Burton's, only the idea is. I definitely agree this is 100% marketing driven. They want to appear more in-touch with angry youth. And, at most it will only cost them $5000 to do because hundreds of people will be working for free trying to claim the big prize. It's bloody brilliant in that regard. There is a large contingent of snowboarding that is more about posturing and looking 'bad' than about snowboarding. In my area I swear some of the guys only do two or three runs a day, the rest of the time is spent sitting at the top of the park proclaiming their bad-assness loudly. These videos may help to keep them in the latest Burton gear. I think the one video that's been submitted thus far is funny but stupid. Fastskiguy
If I ran one of those four resorts, I would open the area to all snowboarders except ones on Burtons........Seriously....... LOL, now that's the best one I've heard!
spaamport
Then, when the co-op gained ownership of the mountain, they voted not to allow snowboarders, because it would ruin the historic ambiance of the ski area. Going to MRG would be like going to any ski area before the 1970's. No snowboarders, no snowmaking, no grooming, and no highspeed quads. I think of it like a museum that you can participate in. I understand how the co-op works and that they voted to ban snowboards, but you better believe that while the Co-op/mountain has an outward PR stance on "why they don't allow snowboards" on teh website, the voting members of the mountain are the ones responsible who made it happen for the same reasons segregation held on in the south for so long. The people who had the power wanted it that way for selfish reasons. Simple as that. And maybe its just me but I take it personally where they chose to draw the line. I don't buy the "historical ambience" line for a second. Why not no ski-skates (not that anyone uses those anymore anyway)? No bigfoots, no trick/freestyle skis, no parabolic carving skis? No lifts, no cants, no titanium poles? No Gore-tex, no polarfleece, and no neon colors or stupid jester hats. Why not make the whole mountain leather boots/metal telemark bindings on wooden skis only and you have to wear wool pants and knit sweaters? I've got your museum right here. It's an f-ing moutain covered in snow that is there for people to recreate on. There is NO REASON to discriminate how a person chooses to enjoy the mountain when they are clearly neither a danger to themselves or others. Back when mountains didn't understand the equipment, or stuff was homemade, or people were riding in workboots, I can understand them being hesitant to let people with unorthodox gear onto the lifts. But there is no excuse now. None. NONE.

You've got to admit a "retro mountain" would be pretty cool. No shaped skis, all wool clothing. We could line up for the kicker and try to pull the front flip, just like Stien! Maybe a rope tow or if we're lucky a T-bar. Long, man-sized skis with tele-like bindings and leather boots. Get the whole 60's free love thing going apres ski. Man, I'd book that one for a trip for sure.
spaamport
Totally. If there was a mountain like that I would learn to telemark and buy a pass. And I'd be out of my 20 lbs of wet wool and into the hot tub with a mulled cider and a ski bunny at 4 o-clock. But there isn't. So I'm stuck here kvetching about it with you chaps because I can't enjoy a day on the mountain with my friends because of antiquated ideas about how a mountain should "feel" that put me on the outside of whatever their ideal is. You know, maybe we could get some "retro mountain" stuff going to include some vintage snowboard stuff too...then we could include all of the cool 70's music on the loudspeaker. Maybe listen to some Foghat or Boston on the way down. I'm diggin' it!

Nope, the video is a "starter" vid done by Burton...says so right on the website. IT's also $5000 PER mountain - a total of $20,000 on the table. skeez rule
you ****in' knuckle dragging, doped out park rat why do you have to bring me into this? go back to the park, "jib on........brah" MRG and Taos are the ****, they keep you meatheads out for good reason, you'd get hurt at mad river and don't have enough class to act civil at deer valley or taos. As for Alta, when they buy snowbird you're all gonna be **** out of luck because we're gonna make the tram skier only so your jib sticks will have to stay on the lower mountain. you guys are a bunch of friggin' n00bs that probably have never ridden anything better than stratton anyway. go back to SoCal, buy a bag of weed and ride big bear or mountain high and leave the real mountains to people who ride equipment capable of tackling real terrain. hell, skiers even go bigger in the pipe, the one feature snowboarders can claim for themselves. even at resorts where snowboarding is allowed allot of them won't allow patrollers to ride snowboards because they are unsafe... why do you all hate on sound safety standards as well as a place that asks you to have a little class? It's like a restaurant that has a clean kitchen and demands that the patrons do the jacket and tie thing. That's the problem with you people you just don't get some simple concepts like decency. If snowboarders as a whole could collectively form a sentence other than "dude, that was steezy" or "that bitch is bangin' yo, I bet she ****s like a porn star" we'd probably let you come to the better places to ski. Even if you could refrain from from saying those things in front of my kids we'd let you in. Snowboarders are just a bunch hooligans, we don't want you near our daughters! BTW, you guys really ought to work on not stealing from the shops at ski areas, this is another issue we have to consider before allowing you people on the hill. as someone already mentioned snowboarders are a different demographic. It's very true, you are the skate rats raised probably by trailer park rednecks. People of lower class usually don't climb in the social ranks because they lack the social skills needed to obtain a decent education or a decent job. Maybe, if you guys put down the bong for a minute you'd figure that out. You bunch of dregs, pull up your pants and get a job. go back to the trauma park........... LeeW
hey everybody, easy, man. Its alread bad enuf we had a division in mid 90s regarding the ISF versus FIS and the olympics, and now this? come on. Stop bitching about only -FOUR- ski resorts, and go somewhere else. That's what I did, and I still was able to ride with glee. Burton or not, we oughta ride whatever we want, unfortunately not wherever we want. So suck it up and move on.
