Cindy Kleh
I've been fooling around on a bongo board at my health club and decided to buy one. Has anyone tried voodoo boards? Any thoughts on which one is the best?
bobble
i have a vewdoo. its okay... the rocker sometimes binds with the spine or runner on the bottom of the board. i would go with an indo board.
carvin29
indo board
Sinecure
I've had an original bongo board, a vew-do and now I have something called an Extreme Balance Board. The Extreme Balance board is really cool. I like it better than the ones with the cylinders under them.
ak_rider
IMO., vew-doo boards are good if you also skate, but indo boards are better for snowboard training. i just took the cheap way out and filled a 2 liter soda bottle with water and put it under my skateboard(after taking off the trucks and wheels). Cindy Kleh
What are the actual advantages of Vew Doos, Extreme Balance Boards and Indo boards? What makes them better/worse/different?
carvin29
I had always thought the Indo was the original and best, but that Extreme Balance board looks better.
Guest Johnny B
Wow, those Indo Boards are expensive. I'm sure they are very nice, but if you are a cheapo like me--in my defense, I am a student now--you might consider making your own. I made one with an old board that I found (which I sanded and painted down), some PVP pipe, and friction tape. Here is a site that describes the same idea: http://www.xshelton.com/balance_board/ Can anybody tell me what would be the advantage of an Indo Board or the like over a homemade model? Good luck - Johnny
7stg
I was looking getting a balance board, but for the price they charge I figure that I can go to home depot and build one at a fraction of the cost there are a few places on the internet with instructions http://www.xshelton.com/balance_board/ http://www.wejuggle2.com/rolabola.html
Sinecure
You can build your own. Lonerider did it. The Extreme Balance board is interesting because you need to balance both fore/aft as well as side/side. It also has little round supports you can remove to make it even more challenging fore/aft - once you master it in its basic form. The ones with round/rolling rocker under them are a bit more dynamic than the Extreme. In other words, you can move more if you want. Both are great exercise and great training, but the vew-do and others can be a bit more aerobic if you want them to.
bobble
What are the actual advantages of Vew Doos, Extreme Balance Boards and Indo boards? What makes them better/worse/different? The indo does not have the spine running down the centerline of the board like the vew doo. With indo, you're not limited to just rocking the length of the board. If you align the indo so that the centerline of the board is almost parallel or slight angle to the roller, the side to side motion feels like you're cruising on powder. Since there are no stops on the edge of the board you're limited to small side to side movements. Go too far and you'll kick out the roller. I don't have an indo. I only know this from experimenting with 4" pvc pipe and some boards I had laying around.
Cindy Kleh
ok, I'm clueless. What is the zone and is there a web site?
Bobby Buggs
I bought a Vewdoo in 94, Hippy Zippy. Its been great and never gets put away. Now my 7 year old and his friends ride it while they watch TV, Ok.. I do too :D
jnshapiro
These look really great. Do they help? I mean, will they help me improve as a snowboarder?
Bobby Buggs
Will you become the king of technical carving if you get one?? probably not but it will help you to strengthen muscles that you will need when you ride. Balance and stability or secondary muscles you dont use in day to day life. And it just fun to challenge your self with it or laugh at your friends when think its easy and get ejected on the arses
Gecko
If you can find a ROLO board it's probably the best balance board out there. It was designed for Physical Therapy aand has side to side and/or front to back rocking making it good for lots of different types of training. Justin A.
Just for curiosity's sake, what would be any benefit of buying a balance board for big bucks vs. balancing on a piece of wood and a basketball or baseball or soccerball or ____ball? Just wondering because it seems...too easy to just stand on a roller and a board? Maybe Im not doing it right? What ARE you supposed to do anyway? Cindy Kleh
I decided on the Extreme Balance Board.
Bordy
Why did you choose a board that does not roll side to side? You will receive more benifits from a dynamic movement.
alpinegirl
personally i just like bosu's. they really force you to be honest with yourself because the medium that stands between the board and the floor is dynamic in all directions. i use them in the way that isn't recommended ;) snow...... Sinecure
Actually, a Bosu is a great do-it-all if you want just one gizmo. You can use it as a balance board and for all sorts of other great exercises. Good call alpinegirl.
