  1. Bruce you really need someone to get on your website, dude. These CRAZY designs you're putting out should be catalogued! that is one SICK looking board. Can I try?
  2. people are flawed, dude. extraordinary people are often quite flawed. Tanner was a complete **** up in many ways he wasn't even nice to everyone. he took advantage of people, owed money, caused problems when drinking etc... FAR from perfect, and FAR from easy to deal with from what I've read, but...in death, don't we celebrate what was good about a man? Unless he transgressed unforgivably, do we not forgive him and shine the light on his good side? I don't think anyone was insinuating that he was able to read a book and be an expert, but...in all honesty, considering the fact that he was both ski and snowboard instructor in his life, he could probably figure out how to ride a carving board. Hell...Id been snowboarding for five years, had never had a single lesson and could carve pretty darn good my very first day on a hardboot setup. You did catch the part about him having stopped drinking, completely, right? I know you didn't mean offense, but you post seems unnecessary to me.
  3. well, I for one have never died from heat exposure. I think I've had mild heat exhaustion a couple times, but... flat out...tanner was a bad ass mother****er the likes of which most of us will never be. NOT just because he was a professional fighter. That dude LIVED on the very edge of sanity and comfort...pushed it as far as it can be pushed, and seemed to be coming back from the trip...but nope. gone. RIP, dude.
  4. never seen Bruce so confrontational, but JJFluff has that effect on people ;) JJ...you do know who Bruce is, right?
  5. this one from SI. Not as artistic, but fills some holes http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/the_bonus/01/13/tanner/index.html?eref=T1 this is kinda hard to look at:
  6. not true, and 3rd that those are soft boot bindings. Notice the receiver is in the center vs the heel on the snopro bindings you posted pics of.
  7. Mod cleaned this up for me fellas. Please, have some respect. Evan Tanner was a hero of mine. I thought it might be of interest to some here. I know Ken will want to read it and a few others. Just, keep it on topic if you will. Willie I know you posted some directly related vids...guess they got culled as well. Feel free to re-post. Again, please...just this once...on topic?
  8. Hey Paul Im in SoCal still/again. Huge start to the season but now it feels like summer. sick.
  9. I live near a SUPER equipped hardware store called McFadden-Dale. They have every bolt imaginable in stainless, zinc, etc. I would be amazed if they didn't have t-nuts. I have to go soon for some stainless fasteners for my bike. I can get you something if you need it.
  10. http://www.mensjournal.com/tanner for those of you who don't know, Evan Tanner, once middleweight champ of the UFC, died this summer in the Palo Verde desert. He was a **** up, a drunk, a champion and a philosopher. Some speculate he meant to die. Most don't think so. A great, flawed man. An excellent tribute to a unique individual.
  11. not sure on the 164 but the 171 scr is closer to 12. Only diff between steep and plow is width (just under 25 vs 25.5) SWEET boards. Never shoulda sold mine.
  12. Im getting old enough where I've seen several "boom then bust" situations. Electronic Music was HUGE in the mid to late 90s. ANYONE with a sampler and a keyboard could get signed it seemed. I know people who were right in the middle of that, getting $10k plus to DJ (play records for cryin out loud!)...then things changed, and...somehow...they complain about it as if...the cash cow they were riding was somehow an entitlement instead of just some good timing. Mammoth has charged close to $80 a day for years now. Lodging is ridiculously expensive, and half the time the top isn't even open. We've been raped for long enough. Unfortunately...(I picked up that Jan midweek pass) the conditions just plain SUCK right now.
  13. LMFAO are you serious? man..that girls stance...its like...24"!
  14. Yeah, I wasn't thinking when I posted that. Bachelor had gates with scanners, too. Seems like a darn good idea.
  15. dave you should have one of us fat guys ride it for a season, soften it up, then get it back.
  16. I rode that board but Im a lot bigger than you. I too question the stance angles.
  17. My prior is 19.5...Id like to try a 20 or 21cm waisted carver. The all mountain I have is 23.5 and I can still edge to edge it pretty fast. I like that board. Just seems logical to set the angles toes on the toe edge and heels on the heel edge. I know Sutherland rides the same angles no matter which board and I always thought it was weird, but you sure can't question his skills.
  18. Oh, I gotcha...an hour from opening. I missed that part.
  19. I don't understand the question...every single board I've ever had I set my boots right at hee;/toe ie to the edes. narrow board higher angles, wide board lower angles, but toes and heels at the edges, or slightly under. Is the intent here to keep the same angles from board to board? That seems counterintuitive to me. oh, and just so Im actually answering...my 23cm prior has me at 47/50 with a mondo 27
  20. The challenge comp is darn near the same binding as the RS. I've ridden the CC quite a bit, have them on my AM right now. So far no problems whatsoever. A couple niggly things regarding adjustment ie just be real careful with the front screw when setting the toe block. If you strip it it's a huge PITA. I like the toe bail adjustment on the stepins. Just a couple dials so you can snug it down real good, and the steel receiver. a good freeride/freecarve binding. No idea on racing with em.
