  1. Looks like fun Kevin. Hope you had a great season. Let me know how it was. Are you up for one more mammoth session? Hope to make it up for one or two more before it all goes away. Happy turns. GC
  2. How about Mammoth? I'm leaving Sat am and comming back Wed. New snow! How your last Mammoth session? Weren't you there last week? I hear Summit got 7" yesterday. Happy carves!
  3. Tyler it seems we keep missing each other on the mammoth connection. You should have fun this weekend especially during the first few hours the mountain is open for snow will be good for carving. I will be going up the following weekend for several days during the kids spring break. Have fun. GC
  4. Tyler just noticed your post several posts back. Mammoth was great last weekend. I'll try and catch up to you later and fill you in on the details. GC
  5. Always good waching the videos. Was the camera man sporting a helmet? Looks like you were having fun!
  6. I went to the Arbor website, but found no alpine equipment. It seems like to me they stopped making carve boards several years back, but I don't know the details--- not that it matters. Looking into boots and assesing how interested he really is in the disipline before I lay out the cash on more equipment for him. Let me know if you here from Arbor. Thanks GC
  7. Mike what are the logistics for one flying in. Rental car? Portland airport? lodging? Depending on how the season goes at Mammoth, I might be interested. Let me know. Thanks. Gary
  8. How do you think the board would work for a 98 lb twelve year old? My son is a faily accomplished rider and has shown some interest in carving. I would like to see the specs. Let me know. Thanks. GC
  9. Ray don't you ride with those boys from Santa Barbara Tery, Tim and the crew that follows. I met them a couple years back on Gunsmoke which I hear is now a terrain park? I'm bumbed, it was such a carvable run. Anyway I will keep an eye out Sat and Sun at June. GC
  10. Tyler didn't you mean 3-25? I was up last week in the same conditions with hard snow in the am and very soft in the pm. Lots of fun and deep trenches! If you change your mind and go this weekend give me a call at my # up there 760-934-4038.
  11. Staying in Mammoth several doors down from 1849--- walkable distance to Canyon. Mammoth may be a bit crowded Saturday and Sunday am, so June could be the call. Monday, either place should be good.
  12. Who is going to be Mammoth or June this weekend? My wife and kids dogged me with the excuse of more responsible things to do so I'll be ridding alone Sat thru Mon. Let me know where and when. Happy turns. GC
  13. I have owned three alps in the last several years. The older models are stiffer and more durable than the later generation boards. At a 200+mm width the alp offers ample surface for float in powder or blowing through the crud. My alp is only ridden in the softer conditions where my other boards are too stiff and too narrow. The sidecut of the alp is designed to hook turns at lower speeds, and in the right conditions it will carve 360 degree turns---very fun. As for the weight range, I weigh in at 200 lbs and can easily over power the alp on the hard pack. Bottom line, the alp is a great back-up all mountain carver, that performs well in a variety of conditions. At the prices that they can be puchased today, everyone should have one of these boards in their quiver. Have fun! GC

    Burton FP 164

Burton Factory Prime 164, bottom and edges near new condition. Inserts perfect! Top sheet has some cosmetic skuffs. This board was given to me last year still in the plastic has has been ridden no more than 15 days. This year is stiffer than recent generation FPs. Asking $100 plus shipping from 92660.
  16. Guys thanks for the information on the edge angles. I especially appreciate knowing that Maciek was refering to another post were the discussion got heated. I was not privy to this discussion, so I could not figure out what Makiek was trying to say. Sorry I jumped to conclusion Maciek. As for edge angle, I am finding the 90 and 1 degrees or 91 and 1 are fairly standard, which is where I will probably start. Any other ideas concering this would be apprecieted. Thanks. GC
  17. Lighten up on the guy! So he came on a little strong on the softie set up. You'll have to admit that one turn looked good. This is what is all about, everyone approaching the sport with a little different perspective. Like to see you make some carves, sounds like you might rip pretty hard? I'm often in Mammoth, maybe sometime we can make some turns togther. GC
  18. Great! The first time I ask for some technical advice, I get a post like this? I am not sure I undstand what Maciek is trying to say. If he is assuming that I have opperated under several AKA's on this site, please note that I have nothing to hide. Secondly, in years past I have tuned many edges racers and recreationalists alike in the ski industry. True, I have not picked up a file for some time, and I can't help but think that with the advent of deeper sidecuts (especially carve boards) edge angle philosophy has changed---hence the reason for my post. Lastly, I have never engaged in any disputes on this site, and believe that the sharing of positive information, experience, and knowledge is a what bomber is all about. With this being said, please feel free to read my original post and respond with some productive information. Thanks. GC
  19. Any techs or do-it-yourself tuners care to share some advice. What file angles are best for what types of riding ie. all mountain, GS, etc. I have a great file set up and am ready to tune. I just need a little philosophy on the angle stuff. Thanks. GC
  20. Hey Doug, if that pic is represents the type of turns you make most of the time, I'll ride with you any day of the week--- softies or not. Happy turns. GC
  21. Yes I know, this what it said in the brochure that year. You may want to tone it down a bit since your potiential buyers will most likely be first or second year carvers, or someone looking for a backup board. Good luck and happy selling.
  22. Things are good. I was wondering when we might run into each other again. Spending all my carving time at Mammoth and June, however; it sounds like a small contingency is ridding in the local resorts. I would like to join them before the season is over. We'll miss each other since I will be in Mammoth next week and you the following week--- bumber. Keep in touch.
  23. I recall riding with with someone on a custom prior--- thought it was black. It was on the ridge of five at Mammoth where we made most of our turns. Was that you? What a great two hour session it was!
  24. Today Santa Anas and no swell--- I had the day off too, oh well. What part of Newport? Let me know when your going locally next and I will try to make it also. Hopefully kalalex and others will be there too. Mammoth would be even better, I'll be there next week.
  25. At 6"1' and 200 + lbs it could be agrued that my 164 FP in too small. Much of my carving time is spent negotiating the masses at Mammoth/June during peak times (June is not so bad) and the smaller board has served me well. I am still able to ride with fellow carvers on longer boards and keep up, but with the smaller board comes more and tighter turns which requires stronger legs and more endurance---something I am trying to impove.
