  1. Bigs, Odd Job and me on a twin tip Donek mono, completely DESTROYED our favorite run @ the Valley. 11 runs there and the trenches were wicked and plentiful. While riding back up we took strange pleasure in watching the beginners literally crashing when encountering said trenches. Over and over....I kinda' felt sorry for those poor souls who encountered Mario's heelside carnage. The nightly grooming will need a few extra passes tonight to erase the mark of the LCI.

  2. Monday 1/4/16, Day 17:  Almost warm with clouds rolling in and out.  The parking lot is back to pre-holiday levels and the big crowds are gone.  1st day this season on the Oxess 178 14m radius skwal.  It feels pretty good but I tightened up the toe blocks to take out some slop and now I'm having trouble getting my rear foot's Fintec to lock in.  I have to step the front foot out then fiddle around until I can get the back foot to lock, then step the front foot back in.  What a pain.  Catecs are great bindings for skwals but I wish there was a little more of a fine adjustment in the blocks.

I have used duct tape on the bail to make up the micro adjustment. Works great

  3. As it stands now, KarverKai and I will be in for pretty much the rest of this week since I am off work and family has now departed CO.

  4. I watched it a couple of nights ago here in Big Sky.  The Mono section was good fun, and to my mind the only really interesting part of the film since the rest of it is just the "same old thing".  How much speed flying and heli skiing can we endure?  I wonder if the people who run that production company which formerly had something to do with its namesake can be convinced to film in Aspen for ATC?  I think that audiences might actually enjoy seeing some of the most extreme riding that happens on terrain that can be easily accessed by the everyday person.

    SSSHHHHHH, I'm working on it...

  5. OldJeep,

I have 2 sets of Thias Skwal bindings. They have approx. 3* lift in both toe and heel. One set is new and has a plastic "body" it is marked "new style"  and the other is very lightly used Sno Pro type. $100 + shipping

  6. So I need to know, at the premier last night, were there minions spreading rose petal's at your feet as you traversed the red carpet?

As cool as it is, Monoskiers are the red headed step children of the snow sliding world. The Alpine riders know the feeling well. The crowd did respond positively to our segment though... It is pretty cool when I'm watching the movie and our clip comes on, people next to me do a double take on me.The're like "hey that's you". Apparently it's impressive. I'll take it...

  7. This probably falls into the category of "dumb questions," but anyone have just a set of Catek OS2 uppers (long plate) they want to unload? I've got lowers from a couple sets of FR2s and would love to convert a pair to try out plates.

I would loan you a pair of OS 2's to try out. If you like them I'll make you a great deal on a pair.

  8. How can anybody "like" this post? I do NOT like that you imitate a responsible adult any day of the week! There are standards to uphold.

I think I have enough irresponsibility for the 2 of us ....

  10. To kick off last years Monopalooza I rented a small ski area in Wyoming for $3 grand. As soon as I had the particulars nailed down I contacted Warren Miller Entertainment. They filmed our White Pine day and filmed us @ Jackson/Targhee/Jackson. We have a big segment in this years movie and, as you've seen, the Magazine as well. W/M/E

    owns the mag as well.

  11. Hi Art,

I'll be coming up to Big Sky the end of Feb. I'll let you know the dates when we nail 'em down.

We are also going to check out Maverick and other little ones around. Hey if you get a chance go see this years Warren Miller movie.

    Big segment on Mono.

  12. Anyone have an extra one of these doodads that let you compute lift/cant on later Catek bindings?

I seem to remember seeing info somewhere that X turns = X degrees. I use Cateks on several of my "toys" and I just adjust to my liking.

I don't care if I have 3* toe. I just ride and feel. I got some Virus boots last year and changed to step-ins. The first rides were not good. Recent talk has informed me about the bigger heel rise. I'm anxious to re-adjust the angles taking that info into account.

You could also use a cheap "angle finder" to get things close to your target numbers. Home Depot, Lowes, carry them.

  13. Sorry to go off topic, but is anyone here going to be coming to the party on Saturday?

Looks good for me. I never know about work Have to drive back that night so no drinkin'.... Well maybe just one ?

  14. I run Catek's on all my skwals. Lots of tinkering but when they are right, they are right. I run them 0/0. approx 3* toe lift and 7* or 8* heel lift with a little bit of canting. I also use ski boots. I'm trying some UPZ'S with intecs. More forward lean than my Nordica's so I can back off on the heel lift. I love the step-in/out capability.
