1. Does anyone have any information on Olympic broadcasts of snowboarding events? I'd very much like to see the snowboard events in their entirety, and fear NBC will be covering the top three and US competitors only (rather than the complete event). Any info on which networks provide comprehensive coverage would be greatly appreciated. Are there any satellite users here who would consider recording the events in their entirety for swap/purchase? Thanks.
2. you haven't yet seen this one...
3. Just in case you haven't yet seen this one on Ebay.
4. I have a Burton Cascade 173 in as-new condition (3 runs, total). I know it's not the Frontier, but it is built with the same type of riding in mind (high speed, big mountain). It's yours for $225 plus shipping.
5. Is this true? I've always heard that edges glide on snow slower than base material and the mantra to ride flat for speed as base is faster than edge. Isn't that what downhill skiers do on flat sections of a downhill course?
6. Hello, I just started racing (NASTAR)--not yet in comps, and I'm looking to buy a longer board than the 160cm slalom deck I've been riding. ISO good used board: 171-182cm, 11-15m SCR, 19.5-20.5cm WW. I weigh 210 lbs. Got a LOT to learn, but think a longer board will help. Thanks!

PNW racing options?

Does your local area have a snowboard/ski club to help young athletes train? That'd be the first place I'd look. Next I'd call USSA and USASA to see if there are any suitable snowboard race training programs in the area. Good luck. Go fast.

Here's one on EBay. Good luck and happy new year!
9. In case you like to go retro or collect. http://cgi.ebay.com/BURTON-Safari-164cm-Carving-Snowboard-w-Bindings_W0QQitemZ7206718004QQcategoryZ36297QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
10. Post pics!!! Please, if it's no trouble, post images of base and topsheet--especially if this is board has the saber/flame/skeleton graphics. Please post specs, too. Thanks
11. Here's another one...looks like it comes with TD1 bindings (and currently at $41--not a bad price). Good luck.
12. If it's not top secret, what was the feedback--and how did it help?
13. Don't know if you heard this discussion of the science of cycling on NPR's Talk of the Nation Science Friday, but it covers some of the issues you're wondering about (it also discusses Lance's remarkable physiology).

Could you post a picture here so we all can admire it? Thanks!
15. FYI, Interesting discussion on Epicski. Starts off as an 'almost-troll' but brings out some interesting tech questions that BOL folks might want to take a whack at. Or not.
16. I agree with Jack's comments, with this slight modification. You can certainly carve with overhang, but you can only tilt it as high as the overhanging boot/binding allows. When it hits the snow, you boot out (and usually hit the snow, too.)
17. 60%? Even on a big snowboarding day, I think this figure is high. 2004/2005 industry figures peg snowboarding at about 27.8% of visits to the slopes, with some degree of regional variance. I do agree with you that the term 'skiers mountain' is subjective, with the exception of the areas that continue to prohibit snowboarding altogether (Taos, Alta, Mad River Glen, and Deer Valley).
18. If you're interested, here's a link to a ski carving thread w/ deep-carving ski videos. Looks like fun.
19. Just in case you need another reason to blow off work, Arapahoe Basin is offering $10 Tuesdays throughout May. Please note that you need to print the web coupon and bring it to the area to be eligible for the discounted ticket.

If you haven't been there recently, the coverage is outstanding (100%, with a good base). Lots of fresh powder and the groomers are fast and smooth.

Want proof? Here's a short, low-rez web video (7.5MB) shot Sunday, May 1. To DL right click>save target as.

Hope you like it!

20. I've been riding Snowbird for the last three days. Coverage is outstanding. The snow starts off hard..then gets soft as the sun warms it up. It ain't midwinter, but it's definitely worth doing!
21. You're right about the 'groomers' that were groomed when they were still wet and soft: midwinter cord it ain't! Started off in hard boots, but even the groomers were too-choppy to rip arc to arc--at least for someone with my skills. Even so, I was stoked by the terrain (hard to find stuff this consistently steep in CO) and by the new snow, softened by brilliant sunshine. It was great! Looking forward to kicking off soft snow sluffs on the steeps throughout the week! Went to soft boots and fat board as things softened up. Rode untracked, heavy wet snow, alone, all day. It was, by far, the heaviest, stickiest snow I've ridden all year! I agree with you, CarvCanada; conditions like these are much easier to ride with low angles and soft boots. I'm halfway considering a relocation, but don't know if living in the SLC basin will agree with my small-town tastes. Is the terrain at Park City & the Canyons similar? Heber City/Park City seem like good, liveable, small(ish) towns.
22. Thanks, no. I don't have the cojones to pull any surfing stunts like that. The images are of Mike Brummet's huge wipeout in this year's Mavericks. Tried to hit the Basin yesterday but it was completely parked-out. They were asking folks to park at Keystone and to take the shuttle bus back up to the slopes. I took a pass and went mountain biking instead. Heading to Snowbird today and look forward to trying some of your suggestions there. May not be able to carve much as another three-day storm is forecast, but will gladly settle for a buncha powder if groomers are covered with fresh snow. Will post updates. Thanks again! S l i m
23. for link confirmation and feedback. I'm going to try relaxing my arms tomorrow and losing the 'raptor' look. I think extending the arms out a bit can help with balance in challenging situations, but IMO no need to ride that way on smooth groomers. Same thing with the size and quickness of the flexing moves: it's good to be able to make that move when the forces get big and sudden, but no need to make them as big or fast as I did on several turns in clip2. I'm going for a less abrupt move to progressively work with forces as they develop. Thanks CarvCanada for the suggestions and posting the vid link: I was stoked to watch it and want to try getting waaay low, extending my feet out away from my body, 360 tail spins, and tip/tail rolls tomorrow. Music is Henry Frayne aka. Lanterna.
24. I just tried the link to clip 1 and it worked (right click>save target as) so it should work. However, both clips are hosted on a free public server and the site might be exceeding bandwidth requirements and locking down. I'll see if I can't find another host (D-sub?). Thanks again for your suggestions (and future ones). I'm looking forward to trying 'em tomorrow at A-Basin and next week in Utah! S l i m
25. My friend sent some slo-mo footage we shot in Colorado this winter. I'm looking to improve and would appreciate suggestions. I'm riding a slalom board (RT 163) and am trying to connect carved turns with a cross-under move. From what I can see, I'm going to try to relax my condor-esque arms (both clips), and to make the cross-under movement a bit smaller and more smoothly (clip2). It also looks like the tip of my board lifts off the snow (weight back) on the toe-to-heel transitions on several of my turns.

clip 1
clip 2

Each clip is approx 5MB. Thanks for any suggestions you might offer.
