  2. as a taxi driver I am just low on cash gear is completely through only suitable for decoration so dishing out 1000 for a decent fresh setup is a hurdle and that's before any trips to the mountains since I have moved to an otherwise quite nice city. at least I got some cool content gathered over some years on my weblog with the occasional addition and I like to come up with affordable fun stuff like stickers from time to time.

. . . yeah that would probably be a suitable enough measurement for that and most :) anyway stoked about and thankful to Edmond for that he found time to answer an informal interview request so some comments about his background and last but not least his equipment for the successful world record attempt are online if you just click the orange CARVE ON link at freecarvers.com you get to the weblog posts . . . Cheers (jack daniel's it is as for me and after a crazy week of taxi driving) and have a good weekend :)
  4. yeah gs + psl or pgs in world cup and games would be nice anyway the petition got thousands of signatures so not bad and benjamin karl shared on facebook a week ago that quite surprisingly the head of austrian fis expressed his support in trying to keep psl in the games
  5. . . . search the blue tomato online shop for lederhose . . . actually for the current price I feel a little tempted to finally get one . . . :)
  6. http://tvthek.orf.at/program/FIS-Snowboard-Weltcup/8885571/Snowboard-Weltcup-PSL-aus-Moskau/9360658 whole event online for on demand watching for one week but not sure whether this works outside of austria this is the austrian broadcasters orf coverage ... anyway congrats yeah to justin!
  7. yeah the bomber forum is great actually the only forum i know of that is possibly even more overboardingly competent friendly funny and polite is the bachido.com shamisen forum ... goes without saying that i found out about that music instrument also thanks to a user on the bomber forum who generously commented 'thats a shamisen' in an off topic thread where i showcased a pityful stick with 3 strings i had created out of some funny experimental mood :)
  8. very fast and very rough is my translation of sigi grabner from his 2003 book but anyway here it is ... (original quotes in german at https://freecarvers.wordpress.com/2014/07/30/its-alive/ ) ... the pioneer's ascend ended at the top: burton dominated the snowboard market in the 80s and 90s. today burton is one of the leading snowboard brands and a global enterprise in 1997 the executives of the american company started to slowly but surely decrease the financing of the burton alpine team. 'alpine is dead' was what they said and of course that [sarcasm] was very motivational for an alpine boarder, especially considering the common wisdom in the scene at the time that whatever burton says others will say too [ adopting the ideas and concepts of the dominant leader ] after hearing such word we had no illusions as alpine snowboarders about our future ... ... ... i think the reasons are purely economic ones. on the one hand freestyle snowboarding developed into a fashion sport or was developed into that and there is easy money to be made with whats in fashion. at the same time alpine boarding and racing were [thrown in the same pot / communicated in marketing as if alpine equals racing and that alpine gear is something for racing only] boards for regular / recreational riders were hardly produced anymore And at the same time burton's marketing people publicly called / positioned alpine as something uncool. IT WAS EVEN RIDICULED IN THE OWN CATALOGUES. surely it was also a pure matter of costs: a freestyle board is considerably cheaper to develop and produce than an alpine board but can be sold at the same price. a freestyle boot sewn / produced in taiwan can bring a profit of 200 euros - a hardshell boot for the alpine boarder at most some fraction of that. what was pushed / advertised was what allowed for higher markups. in my humble opinion. [ goes on saying that jake was cool but second generation managers only had numbers in their heads ] ... it would need a few companies that do something in that niche ... producing vids doing advertising . at the moment there is no universal all purpose alpine board for slope and powder when that kind of board would be best though for most recreational riders i am sure that the industry if it wanted could display / position / communicate/ market alpine as something that is as cool as everything else. alpine has no marketing at this time.
  9. ok will do a rough translation of sigi grabner's quote from his 2003 book stay tuned as for isf i faintly remember hot debates on austrian tv with martin freinademetz and others and the ioc decision of 1995 i wrote about that briefly at the bottom of https://freecarvers.wordpress.com/2014/11/27/events/
  10. as for me one collision at very low speed (skiers fault and because of what queequeg pretty much already posted above that i agree with) one almost collision that could have ended in sudden death (skiing lunatics fault on last run I had waited enjoying the view it was 20 minutes after the lift had stopped slope deserted and I thought I could ride without having to look around much for crazies coming from above) and one cool incident too. as for the last but not least incident that was on a short steep section I was riding it when I saw a skier appearing and coming fast over the top of the hill above and I stopped and in the same time she stopped above and we looked at each other over a distance briefly but what seemed like exactly knowingly and smiling at each other and at the fact that while overcautiousness just ruined enjoying that section for both of us when it would have been enough for one of us to stop we got and brought the right attitude to the slopes and if everyone else also did that everyone could make more out of a ride even in crowded conditions or so. as for overtaking a safety distance is to be kept to also allow for unexpected moves and amount of distance depending on my speed and the speed of the obstacle and if i can't evaluate that so quickly im too fast in the first place that said i do look around much and often wait for a while for a section to clear up below and above me or if just continuously too crowded i dont do wide turns even though i know i could and should be able to do them without suffering potentially considerable injuries . . .
  11. also started in 1993 and had exactly that sort of shock in 2004 already :) after not riding for a couple of years . . . so you might find the following I compiled back then worth checking out / Sigi Grabner put some blame on burton for sure as for the also included german quotes from his 2003 book . . . guess in general while there was a decline compared to the 90s on a smaller size alpine is alive and kicking and has done so for over 10 years since 2004 without a lot of marketing in mainstream media so that is also impressive in its own right for sure . . . 2004 https://freecarvers.wordpress.com/2014/07/30/its-alive/ 2005 https://freecarvers.wordpress.com/2014/07/30/carving-away-at-the-myths-about-alpine/
  12. Like no one at all? Oh man with me only able to afford a whiskey this evening and rather likely not even a day at the WCS this is or would be sort of depressing especially with regard to those 22nd and 23rd definitely to rock alpine events . . . who knows I might make it but that sounds like serious wishful thinking right now . . . so I guess I just wanted to say that in case someone attends the world championships festivities there, at least also the city of Graz is not far away and worth a visit on the side for sure . . . so let me know (or whatever I mean anytime you would be around) open invitation for a cup of Illy coffee at my fresh residence in town . . . :)
  13. since the thread was among some that were deleted in the course of troubles with the older forum version I just wanted to say that the Carve On stickers giveaway was successfully concluded in december nevertheless and the following winners and bomber users have confirmed to me that they got their sticker pack in time for christmas oldsnowboards, lowrider, loopback, jimcheen, duke ... and I hope ron (digger jr) also received those stickers I'll ask also by email now ...
