  1. or ebay, or the classifieds here on Bomber, Good luck, Paul
  2. but I started my son at 6. He had been skiing since he was 3 and was pretty good venturing down the greens and blues with mom in tow. Once he said those magic words "can I try snowboarding?" I couldn't get him in gear fast enough! He was linking turns by the third time we went and has done an excellent job adjusting to his alpine gear (see photo) IMHO I think it depends wholly on the child and the parent/person teaching them. I coach as a hobby and have done everything from gymnastics to inline hockey and one constant is true, if the desire exists, it can be done. Every time I go boarding at my local mountain I swear I see younger and younger kids on boards. You know your child, so the best judge is you. JT I got all choked up reading your post, it brought back the feelings I had watching Zach make his first turns.....there's nothing that feels like that :) On another note, went to the hill on Sunday and I got both my daughters linking turns for the first time, my 14 year old (4th time up) & 11 year old (5th time up) who both took up boarding this year instead of skiing! Now if I can just convince the wife to join the fun and get rid of those sticks.... Keep the stoke alive! Paul
  3. I've got 2 of that exact same model for sale. Derf actually has great info on these in the catalog section on his website. I had a picture of the APX you're speaking of (dark blue model) but can't find it....? Have fun, Paul
  4. That's me and the boy about a month ago. I was inspired by one Trikerdad had taken in the same spot. That'll be a good one to look back on years from now when he's whippin' my ass down the hill.....:D Paul
  5. I bought them on ebay for $25.00 NIB. I had them on my Burner. That was 3 years ago and nobody had heard about them then either. They didn't have alot of adjustability, but they got the job done. Paul
  6. You guys already saw this pic in another thread, but here's the current quiver. This doesn't include my 3 kid's boards....... 168cm F2 Silberpfeil 170cm Oxygen LTD 2002 178cm Sims Burner
  7. Once again guys, don't let him fool you about his riding style or level, this guy rips! I cannot believe you had that floating around your knee cap area and still attended SES! I feel like a total wuss now for complaining about a tweaked shoulder.....:o Missed riding with you this season, I just haven't been able to go as much as last year, but I'm taking a week off the 12th -19th and will hopefully get 3-4 days in then, weather permitting. You're a rock big guy....man that thing is ugly!!! Paul
  8. If so can you e-mail me privately to work out a deal, if not can you post a pic? Thanks, Paul
  9. I've got a conshox on mine for a stiffer ride and it really works well. I'd vote for the F2 no matter what your level of riding. The only difficulty is finding a conshox, not too plentiful but they're still out there, Good luck, Paul
  10. You know I've probably watched that video clip a hundred times an never noticed that about it before! Good work drzone, I'm gonna have to give that a try next time out, so if you don't hear back from me.....don't blame yourself;) Thanks, Paul
  11. I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to answer! I really can't wait to get it on some good groom and see what it can really do. I got the board really cheap from someone who'd bought it, didn't like it and sold it right away, so the bang for the buck ratio is really high! Mike let us know how you like it after you take it out and Kamran, I knew I could rely on you because we'd spoken before about these, so thanks again. Have fun, Paul
  12. It's cool to hear from the people in other country's that carve/ride alpine. Could I ask you a couple of questions too? How popular is alpine riding where you're from? Where do you buy gear? Is it televised regularly there? (racing) Hope I'm not being to nosey, it's just that talking with people from half way across the world about something we all love to do is one of the things that makes this forum great. Thanks, Paul
  13. Well, I took the plunge the other night and bought one of these damn things. I just couldn't help myself, I swear I need a 12 step program during the winter to help me curb my buying habits. Anyhow, I read all the posts here I could find on these boards and was actually a little nervous about my buying this thing due to some of the comments about the tail and how people bought/ then sold them almost overnight. Well it got here on Wednesday just as I was leaving to go night boarding with my kids. I threw it in the back with the rest of the gear, but chickened out on trying it until today. I gotta tell ya, this thing is alot of fun! The others who posted about the tail and it's tendency to "stay hooked up" or not release as quick as a regular taper board were dead on. This thing locks into a carve and you've gotta damn near jump to the other edge to come out of the carve. The funny thing was after about 2-3 runs I started to notice that it rode alot like my Burner does, that is, the tail really locks in and comes around and you have to ride very forward and be very deliberate about initiating your next turn. That got me thinking about the design of the two boards and it hit me that as you ride a Burner (split-tail models) you actually do increase the width of the tail as your turning don't you? If the split in the tail allows you to flex it easier as the carve progresses and you decamber the board, wouldn't this basically have the same effect as the reverse taper on the Oxygen? I'm sure all the engineers and long time Burner riders will correct me on this, but I found it interesting that the two boards rode very similarly. Anyhow, glad I bought the damn thing, it's a blast so far, I'm anxious to get it into some good groom and see how it runs. The conditions today were sloppy and all "mashed potatoed" out. I'd been looking for a board with softer flex (my F2 and the Burner wear my butt out!) and it looks like I found one. I'd like to hear any input from Burner riders or Oxygen riders as to my comments above. Lastly has anyone ridden both the LTD and a regular Proton? Karman? are the Protons stiffer/softer etc. etc. Thanks, Paul
  14. I was actually trying to purchase one of the Oxygen Boards that guy had on ebay all the time, but they kept getting too pricey. I'm definitely interested in trying one, I just can't justify laying out the cash for one right now (it would cut into my Alpine habit:D ) The Palmer BoarderX boards are supposed to be nice too. As far as the stiffer longer board, you'll only limit yourself if you believe you can't take it into the crud or chop. Maybe I'm miss-understanding the kind of conditions you're specifically talking about, but there are longer boards that are softer that would perform well in sloppy/bumpy conditions. My old Rossi 171 Throttle comes to mind, a good long board, but soft and really easy to ride. I'll be posting my impressions of my new Oxygen 2002 LTD later and I feel it's a soft board that I could take anywhere on the mountain (I did today) and have fun on. I think you could ride whatever you want, you've just got to figure out if you want to go stiffer or softer for the runs you're wanting to ride. Paul
  15. in fact I just got home from my local hill where it was nothing but "mashed potatoes". I actually have a harder time carving steeps when they're hard and packed (un-groomed) So I'd say you just might have to work on your technique. I do find that a softer board in the crud is better for control, the new Oxygen I just picked up loved it, but my F2 was harder to control and less forgiving as is my Burner. My steep riding needs improvement for sure, maybe I've just spent to much time on the blue groomers and mash-potato greens? Do you ride a really stiff board? What are you're angles like? All this plays a part, I know from experimentation. One last thing, when I'm fresh (as in first couple runs of the day) I find that even if there is chop or mush, I just commit to the turn and keep my board on edge to "bust" or "slice" through the piles of snow. This year I've been alot better at not losing control if I just tell myself to plow right through it instead of backing off and flattening out. Good luck, Paul
  16. I'll have a large number of Renntigers available in about a week and a half. These will be new/unused boards from the 02-04 season. They'll be first's, not seconds, and will range in sizes from 148-168 in both GS & SL models. D-Sub if your interested I'll try to set aside on of the 163-168cm's for you. Prices will start at $249.99 + shipping for Bomber members only. I'm going to put the rest on ebay @ $279.99. +shipping. Let me know, Thanks, Paul
