  1. There are some interesting posts in this thread. After riding hard boots for 12 years and teaching in them for 10 I have discovered that good boot fit is the penultimate achievement of the carver. After my first couple of pair of new boots I don't even try to ride the stock liners at all. For those who have never tried a custom liner please do your feet a favor and do so. I regularly ride/teach in hard boots for 6-7 hour stretches for many days in a row and my feet are very happy that I have gone to custom liners. (NOTE: ***I do not receive any compensation from any boot or boot fitting company****) For comparison I have included my stats as I believe it is pertinent to the conversation. Age: 43 Weight: 245 Ht: 5' 11" Riding style: very agressive Boots: 1) Navy Blue Burton Fire with Conformable liner and custom footbed. 2) Red Fire with cork zipfit and cork footbed. 3) Green reactor with silicone zipfit and custom footbed. Powder board: Frontier 185 Carving: Burner 198 (my prefered among the quiver) Teaching board ( lower level freestyle): Canyon 173 I have had four pairs of zip ifts, two thermoflex and now a conformable foam liner. My feedback: My first zip fits were the best and are still (after 300 days of riding) in the best shape of the four pair that I have. I used to ride my Reactors in the powder without locking the forward lean and that contributed to extra liner wear in the achilles area and right above (from the extra flexing) in the latter models of zippy that I have thrashed. The cork foam zipfit does not work at all for me as I have had to have it reinjected three times in under 70 days due to packing out and the cork moving around. I aslo experience a lot of ankle bang (mostly back foot) and other discomforts that i did not feel in the older zippies. For the record I loved the silicone zipfits even with the relatively painful (1-2 day) breakin. Generally these newer zippies don't seem to last more than a 100 days of hard riding for me. The thermoflex liner while nice and toasty seemed much to soft for hard carving and would actually seem to rotate within the shell. I gave them to my nephew after 4-5 days. At 150 lbs (although a novice carver) he seems to like them without even getting them remolded. And he is kind of a pansy when it comes to pain, cold etc - so they must be all right. The Conformable liners with a new footbed, were very comfortable and warm from day one. Kind of what I used to get with the zip fit at day three. I only have three weeks riding in them so far but they are great.
  2. Just checking in. I can't find another 185 anywhere. And I put a couple of huge core shots in it during the recent three foot dump we had. I dont know how I can find them when there is that much snow but i do. If you still have let me know and I will try to round up some funds. Jerry

    Burton Fire Liners

Tim, I just noticed the date of your post. May you still need a backup. Advise or ignore. Carve what you can and leave the rest. jerry

    Burton Fire Liners

Tim, I never use the stock liners and i think I have some in my storage unless I pitched them. I will look next time I am there. No promises, Jerry
  5. Here you go guys. These are in great shape in the buckles and shells. The liners are 29. The shells are 29.5-31. Liners are ok. Where the upper plastic meets the lower fabric there is some delam. I always through away the stock liners so it wasn't a big deal to me. No footbeds are in the shells. I think I need to get $100 for them as I just priced the buckles and other parts etc. and can't even find them. I would go less than that or trade for the 28.5-29s. In the Wind, Furnace or Fire. Thanks, Jerry
  6. I have a pair of Burton Winds in 29 to 30.5 if I remember right. On the size that is. I know I have the boots. Jerry
  7. Do you still have boots? Jerry
  8. Hi I am not familiar with the Driver. Can you send pics. I ride the Fire right now. Thanks, Jerry'
  9. Hey Dzako, I saw those on eBay, your pic did not show up there. But here is my question. What is the shell size?? If you look in the upper (and lower) on the side there is a range instead of one size. I think mine are 27.5- 28.5 ??? What thinks you? Jerry
  10. Hey, I have some Winds that I bought that are in pretty good shape. With original liners, no footbeds. These are the transparent blue bottom with white tongues and upper. If i remember correctly they are 29-30 or 29 to 30.5, I will double check the size. I bought them for buckles etc but I have not had the heart or needed to dismember them. let me know Jerry
  11. This is a brand new helmet (worn once-slightly too big at the jaw area. It is Model # 5985 Typhoon color: 90 Black. Size: 62 XL. There are no scratches or nicks of any kind that I can see. The helmet is in beautiful condition. Suggested retail on this $180 Actual store retail $140 to $150 My price $80 plus shipping.
  12. A 170 is a little short for me but that could be awesome in steep glades. I scared myself on the big boy going mach(way too ____fast, when the snow turned quite nasty. Send a pic. If its over $200 that would probably be too steep. $150 and you probably have a deal. Do you know what year and stiffness rating it has. Burton was doing that then and I bought the Frontier partly because it was one of the highest. Your thoughts? Jerry
  13. Is this the crazy mofo that did the Lane with me a few years back? I thought you were still in South Africa surfing the wet wave instead of the chilled one. Good to see you at Bomber - there are some good folks here - just like the pack we used to ride with that are all almost gone. Attrition, responsibility and lack of devotion to the pure carved line rear its ugly head. I just got another Burner 197 and still have a whole quiver of carvers and ride plates on everything. Good to here from you, Jerry jerry@bentaspen.com 208-726-3834 That's work ( I own Saddletree Gallery and Custom Framing across from Chateau Drug)
  14. Thanks for the thought. I had kind of given up on corporate Burton after the last couple of years of blowing off the hardbooters, but I will give it a try. Jerry
  15. Just a thought. I teach quite few conversions every year to hard boots from soft. (Working for Sun Valley Ski School on Baldy - Carve central for the Northwest). Usually what I do is have the first timer in hard boots mounted on to a board that they like and have ridden and keep the stance angles moderate. Around 40 to 50 (max) degrees. I prefer 45. This gives them confidence in the board and that there are not too many things changing at once. Once they get used to hard boots and learn to build the angles that create more edge angle on the board then I start moving them to stiffer, more carve oriented boards. Just something that works for me and my clients seem to like it too. Best, jerry
  16. I just found out that Burton no longer makes or has any stock of the Frontier 185. It is my favorite powder stick of all time and I need a backup (Like a junkie with a bad habit - I know). Anybody know of any? Thanks, Jerry
  17. jt As far as the gloves I would really consider what I posted about the Marine Goop. It is toxic smelling thought so don't breathe it. I put some on at the beginning of winter and it lasts the whole season - truly it does not wear out. I found that duct tape conducts cold too and this stuff does not. It did help me on my pants a while when I was getting thin. For me it is left hip and right knee and both sides of my jacket. I did not like the way it looked so much so I haven't pursued using it on my clothes as much. It would look better than duct tape however. The snowboard school gets a little chapped if you show up in really ragged stuff. Jerry
  18. Shmidt, I don't want to butt in line if these other guys really want them. It sounded like cfj04 wanted them, I just wanted to put my name on them if they didn't. If you have not received a reply from those guys, then how do you want to do it. Thanks so much, Jerry
  19. I have three years of pretty hard riding on my Burton gloves and I used to go through a pair every year. I coat the glove extensively with Marine Goop it looks funky but it sure does work. Good luck, Jerry
  20. Yes Please I would like a pair of $30 race plates in any condition. Thank you, Jerry
  21. Hey Jason, It sounds like you are just over rotating a bit and may need to change your focus point in thinking about initiating your turn. Especially in hard boots with fairly steep angles (not extreme) like yours I have seen a tendency for some riders to not use enough extension and flexion to unweight the board forcing a more exuberant rotational move than is necesary. If you think of turning when the board wants to turn (and she will tell you) by gauging the flex and rebound that you feel as feedback from the board, the rider then adds to it by adding up or down unweighting moves and it takes such little force that the board goes to the next turn almost like magic. Even when skidding turns around the groups of folks that clog the runs you have to build rhythm with unweighting. To a certain extent with higher speed carving you have to do this less because you get so much energy out of the board. I try to keep my rotational moves below the waist moving my knees (or one knee at a time) through an arc that goes from pressuring the toe to the cuff of boot to the heel. I am also a big fan of keeping lead shoulder over front foot and not perpendicular to the board. (and I ride 69 front 65 back on race setup) On the carpet at home you should be able to rock back and forth on the board and lift either end off the carpet gently. I hope this helps and best of luck, Jerry
  22. I was searching the forum for Burners. Particularly the 197 and your post popped up. I have been searching for a backup for a bit. Do you still have yours? Thanks, Jerry
  23. Hey JT, I always break my right one and I am regular so you must be goofy. I have two different shells of left foot Burton Reactor in the 27.5-29 size. I would be happy to part with them for shipping if nothing else. No liners. Desparately accumulating parts for my Fire's that they no longer make. I always crack the tongues oh -well. So far I have posted to this forum several times and no one has responded so I don't know if I am doing something wrong. my e: jerry@photosdonotbend.com Jerry
  24. Mark, I currently have a 197 and would love to score another. Please contact me at jerry@photosdonotbend.com if you still have one. I am new to the forum. 10 year carver and have never ridden anything like a Burner. After ACL repair last year was not sure about carving, but it is working better than ever. Thanks, Jerry
