  1. Lee, Great to meet you as well, and to kick off the season at Copper. A well run race with some good riders going for broke! I'll post some pics later when I get home.
  2. I'm training gates in Vail all week, and it's been good- real good. think almost full coverage, and we rode groomers yesterday covered with around 4 inches of light fresh on top. :)
  3. every monday wednesday and saturday you can see about 6 at ski roundtop plus a few other floaters! Not bad for a resort in Pennsylvania...
  4. that's a board you dont see much of these days in the race course.. :)
  5. Steve- Monday and Wednesday NIghts from 6:00pm until 9:00pm, then tear down. Saturdays- 8:00am until 12:00noon (usually a two run practce race, followed by gates and or drills.) Holiday Camp from 8:00am until 1:00pm from December 26,27,28,29. with drills/video/gates each day. email me at neilsunday@aol.com for details, prices, etc... if you are interested. Thanks- Neil
  6. Well stated Phil. The racers doing USSA events make it top priority to Race first- work and school second. It's hard to do, and a commitment to make, thus the life of alpine racing.
  7. This all makes sense.. The format for juniors would simply be one run on red/one run blue course right? That could get ehm out of the way quickly, and hopefully not tear up the course for the women to run... I honestly could not having more than 20 juniors ever at an event- since we are specifically focused on only 13-14 year olds.
  8. Roundtop Gate training starts next weekend (15-16th) weather depending... Keith- Are you guys open now? Roundtop Opens today at 5pm. Wave Chaser- No chance to beat up on me in Legends Class.... I'm Done!! Going out on a high note.... :)
  9. Let me know if emails to USSA or whatever would help. I am using the new USASA rule for a couple of kids this year.. It makes sense. Thanks! See you soon.
  10. PF- Good stuff my man. Glad to hear Park City stepped up and will host the event. Have you sent an email to A. Nyberg about the Junior's Division??? I would bring Aaron to PArk CIty for this event proabably if they have a division for the youth. As you said at the meeting, it doesnt cost USSA a thing to run them, and why cut off the pipeline? Thanks- Neil
  11. OMG! Anton Pogue can ride snowboards Again... :)

    Binding angles

Pat- Switching from a 154 Hot to a 168 Vokl, and you'll feel much more "in Control." As far as stance width goes-- for GS I personally ride 19.50 inches as centered on the board as I can get. At 5'7" I'm rather short, but even the taller guys I know are riding GS stances at about 19.50 inches to at most 20.25 inches. This stance allows for stability and power during the turning phases. I also set my angles at about 53 degrees on my GS board. I could probably take them down lower, since I am putting them on the Hangl Plate, but feel comfortable, stable and strong at 53 degrees. For canting I ride as flat as possible. If you have knee issues, you may need to adjust your cants for comfort. I add heel lift on my rear foot, and that's about it. This adds some power, and puts the rear leg in a better riding position for turning. Good luck. I only put the GS specs here for now, but get GS boards dialed in before you attempt to do anyting on the SL sticks.
  13. Keith- I would contact Jon Casson: boardcoach@comcast.net he''' give you the heads up. Good Luck-- Neil
  14. Hey brother man! Glad to hear you guys are still working at it! I hope your kids have a great season. I'm sure your experiences will bring a much better SBX course to the area. I'm taking the Roundtop kids to the SBX's... Please send my regards to Marion as well... Take Care My Friend! Neil
  15. Keith- Contact me if you or any of your riders are interested in training at Ski Roundtop... Here's the info.. The Ski Roundtop Race Club (SRRC) is located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. We are entering our 8th season as a snowboard racing club. The SRRC trains on Monday and Wednesday nights as well as Saturdays during the day. Our team of coaches are all past USASA National Alpine Medalists or Champions, and all have USASA coaching credentials and/or Red Cross First Aid and CPR training. Our primary focus is preparing our athletes for alpine races within the MID ATLANTIC SNOWBOARD SERIES, with the ultimate goal of competing at the USASA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. We have had four of our team members progess to the USSA Race To The Cup Series, as well. If you want to train gates before that first race, hone your skills throughout the season, or prepare for Nationals, check us out! We will tailor programs specific to each athlete. Interested riders can email me directly at: neilsunday@aol.com for more info, and to see how SRRC can meet your needs as an upcoming alpine snowboarder!

    Binding angles

booster, a narrower board may allow for faster edge to edge transitions, but the trade off of stability is well worth it in a wider board. i'm not sure about the picture you're showing of Bordy running a wide line, other than to show the "float-feather-sting" technique of racing. keep in mind, the board he is on is a wide kessler. i guess this shows what you are explaining by the scissoring of the legs.-- something i thought was more of an upright, slalom technique, not a GS based riding style. whatever the rationale, to remain on topic- the wider the board, the lower the stance angles, the faster and more stable you will be. have a great day. i coach in vail one week a month- maybe we can get together sometime. later- Neil

    Binding angles

Phil- We (a majority) have been riding 53 degrees or so for many years now. you are correct with the wider boards (more stable) for example, my GS board is 21.5cm wide. add to it, the fact that every racer is now on some type of lift/suspension system, and you can turn the angles down lower yet. the schoch brother appear to be riding in the high 40's. Gone are the days of 60plus binding angles for racers. the lower angles allow for quicker edge to edge riding. As well as riding "aligned" with your hips and feet allow for for power, compared to the days of old when twisting your body to face straight down the fall line was the hot ticket.
  20. They run the races when the general public is less likely to create congestion on the hill. Copper pulled off the space to run this race which is amazing in itself. Yes, the spectators may be working, but people that make snowboarding their living were there. (obviously, no lack of turn out for the season opener-- approx 90 racers and 20-25 coaches and staff). This RTTC was almost as big of a turn out as the FIS WC at Lake Placid. Kudos to Copper for pulling this one off in the early season.
  21. Julian, I have ridden the hangle plates for two years, and have my lighter riders on them. Trappy is amazingly strong, and can ride hangle plates. I have the women and lighter riders on my team riding the s flex. Regards, Neil
  22. Chuck was a man of character... a story about him was when I had one of my kids on the roundtop team go to college out in boulder. chuck took jon under his wing and got him set up with matt drinker at eldora. throughout the whole time of jon's relocation chuck and i would email from time to time, and always had the best interest of the new kid-- whom he had not met yet. this news strikes me, and a simple tribute is all i can do right now. -------------------- may the sun and wind be at your back. may the snow pile high, and enjoy eternal first tracks DFJ.
  23. WC- i raced open class when i was still almost fast.... as noah has stated, now may be the time for me to go out, and really start to coach my 9 athletes on my team.. i know they deserve 100% and that's hard to do when you have training for yourself on the brain! we'll see what happens when the snow falls again... if i'm on kesslers, it's GAME ON! peace.
  24. WC- my Forerunning time was 5 seconds behind Phillip Schooch's qualifing time!!!! They are on the WC for a reason!
