Been out at Spirit for a few runs this week. Ran into Jim from Fargo with his school group today. The half pipe is cut and excellent. Four pipe side was less crusty today with the warmer temps, but may be bulletproof tomorrow morning with temps dropping to 20F for first chair.

It might be the first week of December till I can get out for an Evening session. Jane survived 3 runs on Sunday without a problem. She also attended the new employee orientation.

There might be a couple of runs open... most likely Bindle Stiff (aka The White Ribbon of Death)

Snow making is underway by unconfirmed report. Don't know about an early opening day, but suspect we'll have more than one run open. :)

There's a reliable rumor that our new Executive Director will be making a significant improvement to the previously announced change in operating hours very soon :)

Jane and I hiked the hill on Sunday morning. We only did one run...sticky and slow and decided that it wasn't worth the effort to do a second run. Otherwise, I'm running and busy with my new job.

Looked like an amazing day for Lutsen. I escaped from orientation yesterday afternoon and was joined by Jane for hiking the hill. Nice surfy riding with the Rossi and softboots. Probably the first time a Board Member has done this :) Even more fun than running!! Tomorrow morning has potential for another trip to Spirit. Ken

Unfortunately, I'm back to being gainfully employed, but I probably can get to Spirit sometime Friday afternoon to hike the hill. Pretty decent snowfall here.

I'm gonna take a pass on going up to Giants Ridge. Starting my new job at the other Evil Empire on Monday.

We were going to check out Mont du Lac on Sunday, but they've closed as of today. We'll see if conditions warrant hiking the hill at Spirit during the next few weeks.

A quick shot of our morning handiwork

Beautiful morning at Spirit for Russ and myself. Good groom that became progressively slushier as temps rose under a strong spring sun. Russ called it a season, and I switched to softies to surf a few more runs. Very few hardcore folks left after about noon. Had lunch with Lief in the bar at the Grand Ave chalet. Otherwise, the spring running and weight training program is underway. Russ is itching to start biking. I might check out Mont Du Lac later in the week if it's still open. Ken

Planning for first chair tomorrow. Rumor is Spirit will close after wednesday due to forecast rain and warm temperatures for the rest of the week and weekend along with decreasing attendance :(

I ride with a POC Spine VPD Tee and VPD 2.0 Shorts. There are a lot of inattentive skiers and snowboarders on our hill. I was hit hard from behind by a snowboarder coming off the side of a knoll, but rode away without serious damage. The impact should have ended my season with broken ribs, a broken collar bone and possibly a back injury.

Another good day of riding powder in soft boots at Copper. It reminded me how much more comfortable are a well-fitted pair of hard boots. Jane had a couple of nice, clean runs in the pipe for a gold medal today. The weather looks good so probably will ride a carving board tomorrow. Could be an awesome weekend at Spirit and hopefully it will be open when we get back. Ken

Official word is Spirit will be open through Sunday 4/6 and day by day after that depending on traffic and snow conditions :)

Surfed about 8" of powder off the Timberline Express lift with the Rossi and softies. Very nimble carving where the snow's piled up. Weather forecast for Duluth looks pretty grim today.

Another great video. Having some good runs at Copper, but it's hard to get much better than first chair at Spirit. Some fresh snow here overnight and thinking about riding the Rossi Alpine with softboots. Ken

Kind of a surprise. 9-5 daily, even on weekends. This appears to be on a day-by-day basis. The financials must have been good this weekend. Great day yesterday with Russ and Dave. I fid a few runs this morning, but have a lot to do to get ready for Copper. Groom is good, but the light is getting rather flat. Hopefully will get in a few carves after we get back. Ken

Gonna be cold and windy...Just another day in paradise

Nice video. Out today for ~4 hours. Rideable with 1-2 inches granular snow on top of crust. Started out cold with good light. An occasional extra challenge towards late afternoon with a layer of featureless blowing snow at ground level and very flat light. Rode the Rev 157 for about half of the day. I plan to be out around first chair tomorrow.
