  1. NOAA forecast for Saturday shows temperatures around -10F for 1st chair. I'm waiting till it gets above zero - probably around noon.
  2. It was an old freecarve. Temperatures were looking relatively better this morning - about 9F - and even toyed with the idea of taking a few runs after work, but the winds picked up to 30MPH and temps dropped to subzero through the afternoon - never mind. Might get in a few runs after work on Friday, and I'm definitely planning for Saturday afternoon. Need to try out the new edge angles and Dragon Goggles.
  3. I did catch up with the other carver, Chad, on the older black Donek. He's from Cascade Mountain around Madison, but was originally from Bloomington. He's been riding hardboots for 18-20 years and soft boots before that. Rode to about 12:30 then dropped my board off at Skihut for edge work. Good to have Jolson back in the posse.
  4. Good conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm planning first chair Saturday, and there's rumors of Ryan making an appearance, too. Otherwise, gonna take the Donek to Skihut and tune the base edge to 1 degree and side edge to 88 on Saturday after it gets too cold to ride. Scuff, Jane's looking for carving lessons.
  5. I've put in a lot of runs on my Donek 167cm Metal FC, and it's in need of a good edge sharpening. The original 90 degree angles have worked just fine, but what are other riders opinions about side edge and base edge angles?
  6. Planning an epic session tomorrow afternoon and possibly evening.
  7. I thought that was rather amusing. Jane's a member, too :) Got my gear on and heading out now.
  8. Sounds good. We'll be there for the evening session
  9. Updraft is also warning of possible "barbaric cold" on the back side of that snow event starting Saturday 1/12/13. Stay tuned, and we best enjoy the next week. Fortunately, I learned that it's impossible to ever clean a steam iron from waxing cross country skis long ago.
  10. Kudos to you guys. Jane and I waited till temps were single digits and hit Spirit after noon. Light was fairly flat, but good hard groom. Juggler Joe's one of my favorite runs, but it needs a couple more nights of grooming. Very little traffic all afternoon and often had Four-Pipe almost all to myself. Jane's starting to get the feel for riding a carving board and enjoying it. Looking for an evening session after work on Thursday, possibly. Waxed the Donek board on the kitchen counter to the amusement of my spouse tonight.
  11. We were out for an hour this morning. Good groom, but a lot of traffic by 11:30. Planning 1st chair tomorrow. Might be working with Jane on Slalom and GS technique. Studying Scuff's YouTube G Team video. Thanks.
  12. I'll probably get over to Spirit around 5:30-6:00 PM for about an hour.
  13. There's a possibility of a few runs tomorrow evening after work.
  14. Excellent...gonna try to get a few turns in on the evening session tonight. Played around with the cant, and we'll see how that works.
  15. Should be there early afternoon tomorrow...
  16. I was out tonight for a few runs after work, and conditions were fairly good...a lot better than yesterday. Fast hard pack, but not really icy. The Donek Metal FC held an edge nicely. Russ was out with a bunch of Ski Patrol Candidates on snowboards on Bindle Stiff. Should be excellent tomorrow after a night of cold temps and grooming. Snow making is going full bore on the outer runs, but I'd be surprised if any new terrain will be open by tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if nearly everything is open this weekend. We'll see what Russ' perspective is on this...
  17. We took a couple of runs. Pretty icy.
  18. Took a few runs after work. The middle portion of four pipe should be ready by tomorrow :)
  19. Was out for a couple hours yesterday afternoon. Great packed powder, but still only the three runs. They're moving the piles of snow around on Four-Pipe below the Double Jaw lift yesterday, and they've made lots of snow. It's possible the whole run could be open by Thursday. Will try to get in a few runs after work tonight. Russ or Jane may know more.
  20. Excellent carving this evening. Unconfirmed rumor on the nursing unit of 12" of snow this weekend...stay tuned.
  21. Quite good conditions yesterday afternoon. Got dialed in on the Lime Green Prior. Four-pipe's a long way from being ready. Scissor Bill, Bindle Stiff and Sky Hooker are the ones open. Gonna try getting a few turns in this evening on the Donek if can get away from work.
  22. Hoping to get a few runs in tuesday afternoon
  23. The new Chalet on Grand Ave is going up :)
