1. LOL. btw, that pic is a great illustration of why decambered noses are so important - the nose is carving waaayyy past the end of the so-called "running length" of the board.
2. Yes, that is a separate issue that needs to be fixed, however you're talking about fraud in the entire industry. Medicare is just one part of the industry. If the gov't can't even run part of the industry, it does not follow to think that they should or could run the whole thing. (O's ultimate and stated goal)
3. 60 Minutes: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/60_minutes/video/?pid=GQIzNJWFeZA3_UdBSl8JcB58XdIud78c&vs=Default&play=true It's the first story in the episode. Please watch.

5. The distinctive blue Sugarloaf triangle makes its way across the globe on a regular basis, thanks to legions of die-hard Sugarloafers, as documented on Sugarloaf's website... but this one I think takes the cake.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/sugarloafsticker/4011387795/
6. Learned to ski when I was 3. Learned to snowboard and stopped skiing when I was 13. Picked it up again in order to ski with the kids. (I ski in my Deeluxe T700s! ) I am a better skier now than when I stopped, thanks to alpine snowboarding. And thanks to shaped skis, which is also due to alpine snowboards.
7. the train-wreck-factor is too good to delete these.
8. OMFG that is funny. But where this is a family site and all, I should probably ban you. ;)
9. Thanks everyone for the detailed info, I appreciate it. Buying a freeride or even an all-mtn carver right now isn't an option, especially considering my Safari doubles as an AM. I'm going to leave the big K at home and see how the Safari does. If I need more float than that I guess I'll rent.
10. Thanks, keep it coming. We're staying at the Alpenhof. Also we'll only be on the slopes for 4 days, would it still be worth it to spend one of those at a different hill? I had my Schtubby out after an 18" dump at Sugarloaf last year and had an absolute blast, I think the 21cm waist really helps. But maybe I'll try to do something about a big freeride board. I was thinking of taking my Kessler 185pgs because I have a fantasy that there will be some massive football-field-wide steep groomers like in the EC videos at Zinal. No?
11. Haha, yeah Bob, I hear you. But I will be with the mrs. She's an excellent skier but not a trees or bumps lover, and she hasn't spent much time on powder, so I'm sure she'll be happy to hit some groomers. Your offer is tempting but we'd have to deal with shipping two boards two ways, and a tanker 187 sounds like a ton of lumber to muscle around on anything but floatable powder. Can't imagine jump turning it! gee Dave, thanks for the glowing review.
12. Wish it was SES, but we have a rare opportunity for a cheap trip to Jackson Hole, so we're doing it - yeehaw! First week of February. I've never been, is there good carving? I have no softboot setup anymore. My Coiler Schtubby X2 171 is quite capable as an all-mtn board at 21cm wide. It dives in untracked powder, but then again I haven't tried mounting it all the way back. It does surprisingly well once the pow gets cut up. Will I also want to bring my Kessler 185pgs? Any tips for areas of the mountain to hit, or any other must-sees/must-dos while we're there?
13. errr... there is such a thing as too much energy...
14. I thought you were saying how the latest technology need not apply to swallowtails and all-mountain boards. That's possibly true, but beside the point of the topic that was being discussed.
15. Ed (?), you need to realize you are passing off copyrighted material as your own by posting it under your username and not properly citing it. It looks very much like you are speaking in the first person when in fact you are quoting Nat Young. Google to the rescue... http://www.natyoung.com/history.html
16. Rob, your posts typically relate to carving or inspire carving discussions like this one, so we hadn't moved it. BB, no, I don't understand PD's typing at all! ;) And if you ride it with hardboots, then it can be discussed here. We don't monitor this forum for OT posts all the time, that would be impossible. But talking about freeriding in softboots is most definitely OT. Carving in softboots, not OT.
17. Hi Ed. Welcome to BomberOnline. We appreciate having people with energy like you here. You will find this online community to be pretty small, and that we are not a "they". The first several posts in this thread had nothing to do with Alpine Snowboarding, so I moved it. If you would like to discuss alpine's roots in surfing and how the two sports relate in the Carving Community forum, that is cool, just be up front about it and the thread will stay where you want it. If you just want to tell surfing war stories, Off-Topic is the place for that. These forums are fairly loose, we don't treat them like databases, but it's not a free-for-all either. Hope you enjoy your stay!
18. photodad - you might consider using Firefox as an internet browser, it has a built-in spell-checker that highlights spelling mistakes as you type. Although it doesn't check grammar, so it won't help when you type things like "give my your basic..." terekhov - we are talking about race snowboards, on-piste freecarving snowboards, and on/off-piste freecarving snowboards, for use with hardboots, in this forum. On those snowboards, the decambered nose is the way to go, it's not a matter of taste. It's a progression of the state of the art, much like shaped skis were for skiing. In many cases, multi-radii sidecuts work better too. Swallowtails and freeride boards may be discussed in the Off-Topic forum.
19. I can say for certain that the newer "decambered nose" design is better for all alpine snowboards. The new school race sidecuts with multiple radii and mega taper are better for GS and SL racing, and race-inspired freecarving. This is quantifiable. For steep ice where I want my shorter boards to hook around, I still like my single radius boards.
20. No, my point is that magnets could be used to enhance the Noboard type interface, not replace conventional strap bindings. The steel floors and stairs issue would be funny, ha!
21. Disagree 100%. It's not a trend, the new shapes work better. That is a verifiable fact.

I would say the 180 is the most forgiving of the 3 Madds. The shorter two have a smaller "sweet spot" and require you to bring nothing less than your A-game. As for soft snow, I bought the board based on me demo'ing it at SES in Aspen. As for Bryan's suggestion to low-ball me, well, heh, I have a big-n-tall brother-in-law who is getting into carving. At some point it would be more worth it for me to just keep the board and let him use it.

this board will do well on wide open intermediate trails where you have room to "surf". on steep stuff it will probably be too fast. one thing I can say is that you are tall enough for it! although I do likes me a nice pair of FM boots. err, on women that is.

aw, thanks Bryan. anke, I see you're in Tahoe, so you will have the real estate to let this board rip. Bryan is an expert carver, so his endorsement should tell you something.
