  1. Maybe JT mostly likes to ride blue runs and that is why he will mostly stick to softboot carving. He does admit that a hard setup is preferable for steep runs with hard snow. http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?t=8413
  2. You got a point there. I guess the one gallon mix goes to the minors :D Unless the rita mix is the kind that already has the alcohol already mixed in.
  3. It was unitless because the measurements are ratios of the final container size being used. 1/4+1/4+1/2 = 1 full container
  4. I remember hearing the exact same argument against using foam cores. As far as I know, foam cores died due to loss of camber issue. Hopefully we find out the titanal boards are durable enough for recreational riders. I'd recommend demoing a longer board with bigger sidecut before making your decision. If you figure out you don't want to go longer, get an Olympic construction board that closely matches your favorite WCR. Then sell the extra board.
  5. Thanks for hosting the video I watched the race on TV, but tuned in late and missed the intro. The commentary gave some good info about the race course. At 600m long, with 163m vertical drop, the angle of the slope is only 15.76 deg (28% grade), which does seem pretty flat for a race course. Anybody know what that run would be rated in the states? I'm guessing it might be a blue.
  6. I'm going to Bear Mtn on Mon., 3-20. Snow and cold weather is forecasted for Fri/Sat and clearing on Sunday. I'm predicting very good carving conditions for Monday Hopefully, I'll be riding my new custom Donek with Olympic construction. If the Donek doesn't show up in time, I'll probably ride my Oxygen Proton GS 164 one more time before putting it up for sale. Who else is in?
  7. I ALMOST bought a Pogo D-Day 169 swallow tail with 23.5cm waist. But bought another alpine board instead. It was such a close call. I used to own both the Fish 156 and the O-Sin 4807 168. I thought the O-Sin handled open powder and carved on groomed runs much better. So I sold the Fish. I'll hang on to the O-Sin until it gets too beat up. Then it might be time for a true swallow tail.
  8. You need to follow this up with a head to head to head review of a Donek Olympic Construction Board vs titanal Prior vs titanal Coiler. Don't pull any punches.
  9. Check out my post in the For Sale section. Here's the link: http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?t=10422 I'm assuming I haven't gotten any interest because of the beat-up looking lever on the left binding. I just received a replacement lever/bail. I will install the new lever/bail and update the photos today. If you're interested, the price will remain at $200, but with the new lever. You can email me through my profile.
  10. Neil, If you want to hang out with a bunch of drunks at the Vegas strip clubs, you've got my number
  11. At Mammoth on Sat it was blue skies and early in the morning. weather/visibility went to crap around 1:00. I rode until 3:00. At June on Sunday it was almost the same story. Blue skies early, then weather rolled in around 1:30. I rode until 2:30. Gary's Burton Alp 171 rode very similar to the Burton Coil 165. The extra length and bigger sidecut on the Alp made it better for carving. I'm now the proud owner of the Alp. So Neil, I won't bother you anymore about selling your Coil earlier than you wanted to. I'll be in Vegas this coming weekend for a bachelor party. So I probably wont be back to Mammoth/June until April for the Expression Session
  12. It just an AWESOME weekend. Nice fluffy pow at Mammoth on Sat. I was one the first 20 on chair 23. Rode the O-Sin for a few runs until all the pow was tracked up and then switched to the Burton Alp 171. Great all-mountain board for a lightweight rider. Hit June on Sunday. Best carving conditions I've ever experienced And Gunsmoke is dead (at least for carving). We mostly did laps on Deer Bowl (me and a friend I converted to alpine this season). Only saw one other carver -- Mike. I don't think he's a BOL member. Same Mike I met at the impromptu carver convention back in Jan.
  13. The above was happening to me. Unfortunately, I went off a good size table top jump with my shoulders still square to the board, which got me off balance in the air, which resulted in a nice slam and partial shoulder separation. Since then, I switched to the Extremecarving/Swiss/rotational style of riding that keeps my shoulders about parallel to the board when going straight. This way, I ride my alpine board and freestyle board the same way. This season I've only ridden my freestyle board once. But I've been hitting the straight jumps and pipe with my alpine board (Donek FCII 163).
  14. My favorite concept for a binding is the Burton Step-In Race plate like the ones in this post: http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?t=10487 With no toe lever to stick out, it's shorter than conventional bail bindings. You can "step-in" or do a manual closure. When I had mine, the "step-in" mode worked probably 95% of the time. I've talked to people who owned these, but could never "step-in". The reason I got rid of my Step-In Race plates is because the heel bail connection was on the flimsy side (mine broke) and spare parts are hard to get. I replaced the Step-In race plates with TD2's. But I didn't like the floppy heel bails on the TD2 and the toe lever stuck out too much. I've read that the heel bails on Cateks are also floppy. So now I ride F2/Proflex Freecarve bindings. I also prefer the flexier feel of the Proflex over the locked in feel of the TD2's. If a company came out with a sturdier version the Step-In Race Plates, I would switch to those bindings. The newer F2 bindings should be sturdier than the Burton bindings since the F2's have a thicker bail. A lot of World Cup riders go with F2 bindings.
  15. Neil, You read my mind. My plan was to go to the top as soon as possible, and tell my friends I would wait at the bottom for a few minutes. If they couldn't keep up, I would ditch them. I'm also bringing Gary's Burton Alp 171 to try out after all the pow gets tracked up. I liked your Coil so much, I'm willing to give the other Burton products a second look. Carry your cell phone. I'll call you on the slopes. I'm assuming the # you gave me is your cell #.
  16. Yes, the plan is to drive to Mammoth after work on Friday. I get to be a passenger. The friends I'm driving up with don't have much powder experience. So I think I'll be ditching them after the first run. Carving days are much more sociable.
  17. I'll be at Mammoth this weekend sporting my O-Sin 4807. I may or may not hit June.
  18. Ice coast conditions are an urban myth :D All the pics and vids I've seen of the east coast always show hero snow.
  19. Nice 360 carve! I would like to have seen the helmet cam following the Tanker to really see how well the Tanker carves. From the look of the 360 carve, it does much better than I would have expected.
  20. Somebody is minding the office. I just called Bomber this morning and ordered a nut and springs for my BTS kit.
  21. I started the thread because I read a BOL classified post that said Tomahawk boards would be tough to get in the US, which is not true. So I posted the info for any other perspective buyers. I didn't go with the Tomahawk with titanal construction because after some thinking, I decided not to be an early adaptor for titanal. I'll wait a couple seasons and see how durable titanal boards are when owned by recreational riders. I didn't consider Coiler because of the long lead time. Tomahawk and Prior were the ones I was considering for a titanal board. Since I already owned a Donek Freecarve, getting a custom Donek with Olympic construction seemed less risky.
  22. Wolf, the bindings have already been sold.
  23. Burton Plate Bindings -$40 plus shipping Very easy to adjust, good condition. Best suited for beginer, light rider, or a powder board. They have alot of flex and not suited for aggressive carving. 3-hole discs and mounting screws are included.
  24. I've got a TD2 second board kit for sale for $45 + shipping. The second board kit has the 4 hole discs, "zero" degree cants and soft elastomer rings (yellow). The O-Sin shown in the photo is NOT included.
