  1. Please take a look at the ride board further down the main page of the forum. There is an area for us midwesterners that has the info you are looking for. Thanks.
  2. Aww, come on:) Sound it out phoenetically:biggthump I thought it was a pretty good code to make sure webbots didn't steal his phone number, I'm paranoid on the net a bit also. Although I am surprised that he got a 999 number with the St. Paul area code and 9766. Did I get it right Goonie?
  3. No wonder why that looked so smooth! Usually slow-mo is choppier. That's impressive. It has lead me to do some research on what other cameras out there can do that because for $250 at a major online retailer it might be a good point-and-shoot to get. Thanks!
  4. That was a nice vid! I like the slow-mo. What camera and software did you use?
  5. It looks like the Prior has the metal as the topsheet. Is that correct? Thanks.
  6. I just got around to watching this, no YouTube at work. That was sweet! I just tried backwards at my loacl hill yesterday and holy WEIRD! I did find out that it is indeed easier carving heelside fakie but I didn't practice that much so I didn't get very far. I want to practice your transitions because I love the look of that:) With your headcam view you could really tell you were down at the snow! Nice vid!
  7. I use my softies for the big slopestyle jumps:) Sometimes I like to get some air and throw in the few tricks I can do. Also, softies are more comfortable for me. I ride at about 18/10 (F/R) and I can still carve to an extent before I boot out. It's like having a road bike and a mountain bike:)
  8. Hey Scott, there is a guy on eBay that is in Minnesota who is trying to sell his Burton BX 165 board for $150 but cannot sell it. I bet if you chuck $100 his way he might sell it and then you can use the extra dough for the other accessories you need to outfit it. I'm never a big fan of buying new gear for something I want to test out when I can get something used that will work just as well. If you don't like it you can probably resell it. Just an idea. Or there is also a Palmer Crown for $150 but that has a bid already so who knows what it will go for. That should rip well with hard boots. http://cgi.ebay.com/Burton-Fusion-165-Bx-Boardercross-Carving-Snowboard-/330509811662?pt=Snowboarding&hash=item4cf3eb7fce http://cgi.ebay.com/Palmer-Crown-LE-161-freeride-boardercross-Snowboard-/120670108507?pt=Snowboarding&hash=item1c187fbb5b
  9. So I went out after work and was out on the slopes by 5 PM. First, let me say that from downtown Minneapolis I took the back way and like it much better than navigating the stupid 94E traffic. I took 55 (Hiawatha) south, 62E, 110E (across Mendota Bridge), 494E, 61S (toward Hastings), 70th East pretty much all of the way to Afton. Without traffic maybe it took an extra 10 minutes but avoiding traffic was WELL worth it. Anyway, I went out with Angela and she is getting better so I don't have to go as slow anymore:) Let me tell you, going slow with your angles @ 50/50 stresses my groin muscle on my rear leg. I think it is the slow skidding of the rear foot to slow down and help someone learn. But I digress again. So the snow was in great shape except for one of the runs way over on back side on the left. There were not many people at all so there were some times where I could really practice checking my speed by concentrating on laying down some nice carves and a lower speed. There was a little chop from pushed around snow but overall I had a great time. At the end of the day Angela was waiting in the car at the bottom of the run to the left of Chair 2 and got to watch me to a good speed-check-butt-slide down that run:) I wasn't doing big carves to check my speed so I had a good clip going on the toeside over the last knoll and it threw me up in the air a little off balance so I did what I usually do when I fall and just lifted up my board and slid for a bit to get it pointed in the right direction and then popped back up:) It feels great to go flying down the hill and laying down some nice turns:)
  10. Another for this. I had a Protege5 which got 30 MPG combined driving and had some good space but 4 people and stuff would never work without a top box. It had performance tires on it from the factory and they SUCKED in the winter. I slapped on some Blizzaks and WOW. Unless I have an AWD car I will always have snow tires and even with an AWD car it will allow you to have that much better traction when it is needed. I've never owned a Cherokee but I see what he is saying about the Cherokee and not the G Cherokee. Nice boxy design to maximize the space and very common.
  11. I got two comments last night; Liftie: "I haven't seen one of those for a while." -This was of my Burton Alp 169 with TD-2s so I'm not sure if he knew what he was talking about and actually knew my board is a little old or if he meant that he hasn't seen an alpine board for a while. Other comment; Teenager behind me: "Is that board hard to ride?" Me: "Not really, it feels really weird at first but you get used to it." Teenager: "That board's legit." :) It actually makes the day more fun to get these comments.
  12. I've been browsing also but me personally, I stay way away from things not from Japan. I've had a few VW's, Fords, etc. and they always seem to have problems. You can go to TrueDelta and they have some repair comparisons. Just make sure to take any car to your favorite mechanic before you buy it and get it checked out. Honda CRV - Honda reliability, AWD, and 5 speed. I stay away from slushboxes, err, automatics. Toyota RAV4 AWD. I have been looking at Foresters also for the exact reason you are. A classic Toyota truck 4WD of some sort. If you don't transport many people it will be fine and get one with a topper. Just don't leave valuables in there unless the topper has no windows and a good lock. Just some ideas for $.02.
  13. Yah, that all makes sense. I think the important thing is that it is designed to give the majority of racers the best experience, and I am not the demographic of the majority of the racers. It seems that I am more of a whiner . Hopefully I will quit the whining and see allz you out at Buck.
  14. I don't know about the model but it is a Nitro, not Nitrous:) I quick did a search in Google but it only came up with one post from a newsgroup. It looks like some of the newer carving boards with the blunt tails for more of an edge but maybe with that nose it will float a bit better in the powder. But then again, I've never seen one but there is no way I would pass up a free board like that! Maybe if it was a Burton Cruzer or something but even then I would use it for rails or something. Nice job! Tell us how you like it:)
  15. Pretty much any board can be ridden with soft boots, it just might not work like it was designed to. The problem arises mostly with boot overhang and comfort of trying to ride soft boots with extreme angles. Please clarify your question. Maybe you are wondering if your toes will hang over the edges? That depends on your boot size and the waist of the board, which is in the PDF.
  16. You do pay per event. You can be a full member for $75/year or you can pay $30 (I think) at the event if you only want to run that day. However, the $75/year isn't what gets me, it is the $25/event and you only get 2 runs per event! So for example, at Welch, if I were to buy 2 lift tickets, and race in the SL and GS on both days, it would be $39 x 2, and $25 x 4 for a total of $178 with no food and gas! Ouch! I might do a GS at Buck but mostly what I want to do is Boardercross:) It sucks that one of the races is up at Giant's Ridge though:( I like Giant's Ridge but it is 3 hours away. **Threadjack a bit** I think they would get more participation if they would host the events at 1 place and offer discounted season passes to the 1 place. I'm sure there has been a lot of research on this by the USASA already but if they were to do that, the host "area" would get the racers buying more food and drinks because they would be there more often. I would probably be more inclined to enter more events to boot.
  17. :) None inferred. I'm racing for the fun of it so if I can beat some peeps, great, but I have more fun chatting with all of the racers when we are waiting for our turn! Maybe I will see you at Buck or this Sunday at Afton for training.
  18. Scott, I got your e-mail and I would like to be there on Sunday but haven't planned anything yet. I wonder if I can get my wife there during the day and then I will stay for the evening so I can board with you and anyone else there. Hopefully see you there.
  19. I think that would deteriorate:) I have never made anything myself but the Bomber plte bindings use an elastomer and many snowboards use rubber in the board so just slap it on and ride! Just make sure your screws engage with enough threads since you are increasing the thickness. My $.02
  20. I'm glad I'm not really trying hard to win my group because I think I would lose now:)
  21. Futahaguro

    wow

He might boot out if he goes much further!
  22. Just in case I miss the post please e-mail me if you plan to get something set up because I will be interested. Thanks.
  23. Nice to hear. I have been worried that our rain storm really F'ed things up but apparently not too much. I'm thinking of trying an evening this week or maybe just stick with a morning on the weekend.
  24. I am trying now but it is really laggy. I paused it and put it in the background to see if it will buffer. It could be that my connection at work has seemed slow today but the first jump he launched off of and then did a hard heel side carve looked cool! **Edit** I watched them and that guy can rip! Really busting through the chop and I like the fakie to carve style.
  25. I'm there! Asking for day off right now:)
