Thanks Colozeus. We had a great time riding with you. You did great on the off-piste in hard boots and a narrow carving board.

A bit more about my boots: My hard boots were Head Stratos Pros. In order to get a good fit without heel lift, I had to size down a bit to a mondo 27. My toes were always jammed. The boots weren't painful but definitely not comfortable. I thought that was just part of the price of snowboarding.

My new soft boots are Flow Talons. When I first got them, I thought they were too big. However, after a bit of tweaking and riding, I think they fit pretty well. They are the most comfortable snow-sliding footwear (ski boots, soft snowboard boots, hard snowboard boots) I have ever worn. My toes have plenty of wiggle room but the heel hold-down is great. They are pretty hard to get into and really hard to get out of but really comfy when I'm riding.

With my hard boots, my big toe toenails were so bruised by the end of a season, it would take until the beginning of the next season before my nails would out-grow the damage from the previous season (and I kept my nails trimmed almost to the quick).

You should try UPZ boots. From what i have read on these forums, they usually eliminate heel lift for those that have it with deeluxe boots. Feet that hurt will kill any enjoyment. I know from experience. I only came to be pain free this season after i had my boots widened and punched out and i got a custom footbed made. You can ask @big mario and @Corey how much my technique improved at the unofficial ATC once i got my boot issues solved and my feet weren't yelling at me.

But, you were looking really good on softboots. Do what works for you.

Really awesome day in the books. wow. An even dozen  of us on the hill. with some softish yet very supportive snow. Looks like no more firecut for the season, B-net and a gs couse set up, while 2  perfectly good race runs sit over at the now closed valley. meh.  Bennets had a nice groom on it, which we managed to destroy pretty quickly, along with roulettedid lay down a full healside 360, 270 of it was carved, 90 was flat, The dude said it counted.   The big virus an I had a mutual flogging session for the first part of the day, and I switched to my new fave, the 174 JJA and ran for a bit on spillway/Richards/Mambo.. Seriously good stuff.  Out Terrorizing the Kooks today: DT,  Erazz,  Hillary, Ice, James, Jerrick? Johan,   Lance, The Odd One, Marshall, The Dude, and myself. Nice riding by everyone, pretty cool to watch. Sadly, 2 weeks left, and I suspect we are moving into melt freeze land, and out of the mid winter that we have been enjoying . For any one wondering, Carrie took a sled ride yesterday with a sprained knee, hopefully she will be back up soon. If anyone has contact info for her, pm me with it so I can wish her well. I knew something felt off today, It was not seeing her smiling face, and having her complain about my trenches at breakfast this morning

Awesome riding with you guys. I'll be back next season as soon as they open. It's definitely turned into the spring freeze cycle. I was there yesterday, first chair. Super icy groom which i don't know how to carve yet. Softened up around 1030, finally. I got a good few runs in before having to leave to pack up.

Johan - great riding with you. I'm guessing that between what Gregory & I showed you Saturday (Lifts #8 & 9) and where you likely rode Sunday, you got a pretty good tour of our little ski area. Hope to see you again next year.

Nah. I left the group on Sunday to check out lift 8 and it wasn't that great for carving. Still fresh pow on Sunday. I stuck to the usual suspects. Great riding with you too!

  3. Fun times today with @Odd Job We left around 2 since the snow started to come down hard, visibility went to shit and we were worried about road conditions. I make it over to dillon and just after the tunnel, it's sunny blue skies.

I'll be there again tomorrow early, assuming road conditions are ok and the tunnel isn't closed

    - Food is offered at Loveland. It is really cheap (compared to the other resorts).

    - Yeah. Safe. No matter where in Loveland you park. But you should be getting here early.

    - The lifts for all of the carving runs are 1, Ptarmigan, 6.

--1. Richards/Mambo. You can take Spillway or Catwalk from the top of 1 to these runs

-- Ptarmigan: Firebowl --> turtlecreek or Firecut

-- 6. Right underneath the lift... perhaps the run to the right (getting off the lift) as well.

    - For carving Abasin is worse than Loveland IMO.

    - No. Don't try Breck.

Oh wait. I'll be at Loveland tomorrow. I'll show you around.

Awesome. I'll try to be there early. Pm me and we can exchange contact info.

  5. A few questions since i'm still trying to decide which resorts i want to ride on different days

    - I'm assuming food is offered up for sale at loveland? Bfast and Lunch?

    - Is the parking lot safe? Can i leave a spare board inside the car without fears of someone breaking a window?

    - If i decide to do loveland tomorrow, what are the go-to runs? I usually just follow the groom, but appreciate any tips

    - How does a-basin compare to loveland?

    - Should i even bother trying breck? i was thinking of doing winterpark at some point, but i'd rather not go through that mountain road leading up to it. I heard parking is a nightmare at breck and that resort is so big i'm afraid i'll waste a good few hours just figuring out where the good runs are.

I was measuring the lift angle with my phone app and it was not really accurate. I did inverse tan calculation and it actually came out to be roughly 5.1 deg at the max possible. This was done with lift shims and also adding 2 canting shims in opposite dorection to create more lift.

    Oh, that's good to know.

  7. I might experiment with it again. But over this past season, i systematically tweaked my setup until i felt comfortable on the board. (i have a post about this somewhere in another thread) I always felt like my legs were fighting something on the board. Over the course of a few runs i changed 1 thing at a time until i hit the jackpot. 1. Eliminated bias - Helped quite a bit with the rear leg. 2. went from 3 to 6 toe lift, helped even more, 3. shortened my stance from around 19.5 to 18". One thing i noticed immediately after eliminating bias and centering my boots was that i could carve heel sides with a more locked in feeling and without fighting the board. Again, i think it's just do to my own biomechanics. It's what worked for me.

  8. Looks like saturday morning will be a nice pow day.

Around what time should i plan on arriving in order to make sure i get a parking spot on weekends? I'm staying about 20 minutes away on the other side of the tunnel. I'm a morning person when it comes to carving. :-D
