Isn't there some issue about see-through boots and bindings? like they crack more easily than solid color plastics or something? Or is that just the old Burton winds that were see-through?

After going to my local board shop, I was completely unimpressed by today's crappy topsheet designs, and I've been trying to think of something better. The last topsheet design I saw that I really enjoyed was the "rust bucket" by JK seen here http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=214535&postcount=59 I wanted something that would go alone with the whole idea of carving. I was thinking about the way carvers progress down the hill, and what would be similar to that when it dawned on me, why not do a snakeskin pattern, complete with the scales? The serpentine-like back and fourth movement combined with the thin deep trenches remind me of some kind of trail a snake would leave. Here are some skins that I thought would look good on a board, what do you guys think? disclaimer: this is meant i no way to offend people who design their own topsheets. I've been impressed by many custom topsheets, its mainly the mass-produced topsheets that I am annoyed with

greetings k2! nice to see someone that lives so close to me. I live in PA, but I live less than a mile from the PA/DE border and I'm just a 5 minute drive from Newark, DE(though I'm currently in state college, pa at penn state). Are you a student at University of Delaware? I'm relatively new to carving as well, I've only tried it twice so far, both times last year in Sun Valley, ID, so I may not be the best help you can get. As far as where to go to practice, your best bet would be anywhere with snow. I know it sounds lame, but considering how pathetic our drops are around here, can't say much more. Your best bet would probably be Blue Mtn. its one of the closest drives, closer than the poconos and IIRC, the vertical drop is higher than any of the mountains in the poconos. I'd also suggest heading farther north to VT. Its a long drive, but much better drops, much better runs, and more hardbooters up there as well.

I guess its time to start looking for a 26 boot, though I'm still considering a 27 (couldn't heat-moldable liners help to make them fit better?) Also, don't feet swell when you are on your feet all day? every time i've measured, its been after sitting around doing nothing. I'll probably head to a local shop to try on some ski boots and see what fits me well, ive heard ski boots fit the same as snowboard boots

This seems to further back up that the mondo sizing is not quite accurate. Ive tried remeasuring my foot a few different ways, even traced the outline on paper, and it never really gets above 27 cm. a size 28 is supposed to fit a foot thats between 28 and 28.9 cms long... im becoming even more confused, arg! thanks for the input guys! It definitely helps to know this stuff before buying! I could use more insight if anyone has any. It doesnt have to just be for my size. If you are supposed to be a MP 24 and you can barely squeeze into a 25, let me know!

I'm looking to buy boots but I'm very nervous about sizing. I have read the sizing articles and the whole bootfitting guide on the carvers almanac, but I still have some trouble believing it. I measured my mondo point and I'm just under 27 cm(approximately 26.7). According the the almanac, I should be looking to buy a MP 26 boot, since a 26 fits 26-26.9 cm; but that seems a little small compared to what others have said. example: http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=22876 if you read the fourth post down, he says " I have size 8 feet and the boots were quite tight, my toes hit the front," in reference to a size 26 boot. I wear a size 10.5 - 11 shoe, so it seems like there would be no way I would fit in a 26(my shoe actually says MP 29), but thats what my mondo point "should be" according to a ruler. Myabe I'm just being paranoid, but since I'm shopping for used boots, i don't want to have to return anything. Any insight would be helpful, thanks

it wasn't snowboarding, but as soon as i read that you separated your shoulder I winced. about a month ago I got hit by a car riding my bike and separated my left shoulder. It doesn't hurt anymore but it still does some funky stuff whenever I'm lifting, and I still can't benchpress or do pushup's. heal fast, i feel your pain!

whats the mondo size? 27.5? 28?(its located in the outside of the liner I believe) also, are these intec compatible? thanks

I'm not sure if I will be visiting sooner as well, but I know that I will be in sun valley in mid march so I'll have to get in touch with you when I know more info. The boots I rode were rental burtons, as were the bindings and the board, I happened to find a shop in sun valley that had an old gear sitting around. I can't remember exactly what kind of boots they were, though they were definitely snowboard hardboots. i know they had 4 buckles and iirc, they were a solid shell, and were not intec compatable, so i want to say reactor or furnace, but I cant be 100%. The bindings were also burton, and were not step in, but again, I don't know the particular model. I never took any lessons but from watching a few videos online and reading the articles on bomber, like "the norm," I was able to carve the alp, though I can't say how well, other than that I could feel I was on edge and I wasn't just sliding. Also, I could look up the hill and easily distinguish my c-shaped trenches from all the other tracks on the hill, which was pretty cool. Right now I'm in state college, I'm in my junior year at Penn State studying electrical engineering. My hometown is a little south of west chester, pa if you know where that is. Neither is too far from blue, a few hours' drive. I've been to blue mtn many times, along with most of the resorts in the poconos as well, though to be honest, after going out west, the poconos are no longer all that much fun =P thanks for the tips guys, looking forward to some more!

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to the hardbooting scene, I've only tried it twice so far, both times while in sun valley, ID, but I've loved it both times and I'm trying to get some gear to really get into it. I live on the east coast so there isn't much selection in the shops here, and I've pretty much been watching ebay and BOL looking for low priced gear, and I was hoping for some recommendations. Both times I've ridden (last season), I rode a burton alp, which i want to say was 163cm, IIRC. If it matters, I weigh 190 and have size 27 feet. If you have any info tha tmight help, gear selection-wise, I'd appreciate it. thanks
