Went touring with a Tanker 192 and approach skiis . Ascended to just below crater rock. About 2 ft new but pretty windblown from the palmer down. About 30 snow nuts skinning up for some early season white stuff. The stuff from 10k to 9k was really nice and laid in smooth . Need to work on my equipment as I got some nice heal blisters but it was worth it. Hopefully I can get some more of the local BOL crowd to join up there next time.
On the way home from the mountain...warm already in Welchs...

I think that the Bomber BTS system has made most hardboots alot more forgiving on flex. I aggree that a softer hardboot is the way to go but i dont think you should change up interfaces (hard to soft) as that will mess you up more than anything. "Slow changes" is the way to go ... finesse not power...or you will end up in cart wheels . You need to feel the snow enough to judge what the limits are from PNW cement to BC pow. I would love to have a lightweight set of intec compatable AT boots for climbing/backcountry.(hello deelux...or someone)

Took a few pictures of Hood this weekend while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail with my kids. It had a nice new coat of snow on it. NWS has some good snow predicted for this weekend! Sunday tline hike anyone?

Yea got the skiis on backcountry.com at some riduculas closeout for $79 . I see you are from Wisconsin. Grew up in Marshfield , went to UW-Madison and skied all the southern Wi ski areas and UP areas. My brother lives in Monroe now (works for swiss colony) and I was just back for opening day in Green Bay with my inlaws who live there.
They were k2 clickers with a hinged at setup but i drilled off the clickers and put on some old raceplates. I have a set of old f2 intec stepins coming to make it even faster in and out.

I never made it up on friday but it definately looked ridable ! About a foot yet at T-Line on sunday in the clouds. Made some snowmen and did some sledding with the girls...

I use ascent skiis now, but have climbed MtHood at least 8 times in hardboots by just walking with crampons . I am definately interested in getting a split setup soon but ascent skiis work pretty good.
Jim
Get those boards ready people, the first foot new snow is coming tonight and tomorrow to the cascades! Might do a exploratory expedition to T-line on friday to check conditions.

My wife is at a business meeting for the next 5 days and I am off with the girls . I could meet Sunday but will have the kids with me . I could meet at a kid friendly place for food-cranyons-beer and my kids would love to do some "summer-sledding" with you (skateboard luge). I am going up to the cabin in Welchs for friday and saturday nights if want come up and hang there. We plenty of extra bedrooms and wouldnt mind the company.

I love the UP also. Grew up in central wisconsin and my grandad owned half of bear island in apostle islands prior to becoming a national lakeshore park. We stayed there every summer at the log cabin and sailed all through lake superior. Awesome storms and northern lights. There is nothing like skiing the porcipine mtns and watching /listening to the ice crush on shore from the wind . Good times....

Wow 168 people online yet only 7 registered members on a hot day in July on a website about hardboot snowboarding? There must be alot of people just about to try hardbooting or what?
killing time

Anyone know how close a Tanker 192 would compare to a Donek freeride tucker 180? I am thinking about getting a splitboard made and pricing some boards out .
specs are : 180 Tucker 180 153 12.3 28.50 24.10 28.20 5.7 630

I would say the 192 is my favorite resort powder / freeride board and tend to ride mine everywhere as a all mountain. I have a couple of 200's now and also the 187 wide but mostly have only ridden them cat boarding in canada or super big pow days at MtHood . Bryans crowns are super and he let me do a few runs on one this year. Super light compared to the regular 02-03s. I liked so much I ended up buying a 06 from him at the end of this year but havent ridden it yet. You will not regret a Crown . Pic of my 192 up above tline a couple of weeks ago.
