    Ouch

Don't count on it. Virtualization isn't a silo'd solution anymore, it's a deployment option and much larger companies are simply giving it away. VMWare needs to find a buyer or a means to increase services revenue...it's not going to come by product sales.
  2. A must view for all those in sales.... K
  3. Tired of laces...... Anybody have insight or reviews on any of the BOA-type soft boots? I'm looking at the following: http://www.the-house.com/dc2to09bk8zz-dc-snowboardboots.html http://www.the-house.com/tt2fb08bg7zz-32-boots.html http://www.the-house.com/vn2enl09bs8zz-vans-boots.html Thanks! Free computer

It's true! I bought a bike at Walmart several years ago so I could train....and didn't want to point up the money to ship my bike. On the last day, I went down to the beach and tried to find a kid who needed a bike. THREE kids basically said "no way man, that's stolen". I was in a rush..so I just left the bike.
  5. Well...we didn't know how stupid we REALLY were until a a few days after Ironman. This is nuts, a few miles down from the swim course: http://www.newsherald.com/headlines/article.display.php?a=4265&page=1
  6. Yep! Here's my 1st attempt at a pix video....comparing my 1st Ironman with Ironman #9. They never should have allowed me to race my first Ironman as I was completely out of shape....then again, round is a shape. Right? FWIW - I was much faster on a snowboard as a fatass. I had a lil problem at my last Ironman, so the only goal in Florida was to cross the finish line..... K
  7. Sure, I'm in. I swam 2.4 miles, biked 112 miles and ran a marathon last weekend. Here's my schedule, I try to avoid the gym (too much chit chat and downtime): Monday - 10 mile AM run / weights PM Tues - 8 mile AM run / 2 hour MTB nightride PM Wed - 12 mile AM run / 1 hour PM Swim Thurs - 8 mile AM run / 2 hour MTB nightride PM Fri - 10 mile AM run / 1 hour PM Spin & weights Sat - 4-5 hour bike ride...sometimes MTB, sometimes road Sun - 15-20 mile run / 1 hour swim
  8. You're about 5 months behind schedule!!!! I'm not convinced losing weight for snowboard racing is going to help. There are a lot of REALLY fast fatasses on the circuit. But, the fastest of the fast guys are usually the most "fit".... So, do whatever you need to do to get "fit" and then balance you diet...the body will naturally follow. That said, IMO snowboard racing (as with ski racing) is about power and agility. Endurance was left out when everything went parallel and combined times went south. IMO, the priority is: 1) Food - don't eat like **** (easy enough) 2) Agility - plyometrics (they are boring, but they help when done 2x/day) 3) Power - You're not dead lifting a car, focus on 10-15 reps with HEAVY weight...total body. 4) Cardio - Skip the running, hit the threadmill at MAX incline (15%) for 45 minutes at whatever speed you want (walking, basically). Do that THREE times a week Of course..there is no better practice for snowboarding than snowboarding. Hit the slope, a lot. Ride fast, ride hard.
  9. Thanks for the tips... It "dried" to the point where it was still tacky, but didn't press onto my finger (but it did leave a finger print). Is this normal? On one side, there was a bit of "gunk" which I wipe off with a towel, but it took much of the walnut off as well. Oh no! Perhaps I didn't prep enough. I have no clue of the wood as I bought the kit from the hobby shop (foot stool). I still wouldn't call it "dry" as it's more tacky. How do you know when it's dry?
  10. FWIW - aggressive alpine riding is tough, really tough. There is no amount of exercise or conditioning that will get your legs to the point that you won't feel the burn....if you're truly ripping down the hill. It's all relative as everyone is boxed within their own ability. If you're in top condition and riding like a world champ, it's still burns. The only way to make it burn less is to ease up on the aggressiveness meter! As Greg Lemond says....it doesn't get any easier, but you'll get faster. K
  11. So...I'm making a cute lil foot stool for my mom. Put the kit together, sanding it down...cleaned off all the dust and let it dry. Yesterday, I applied walnut stain outside. Let it sit for a few hours and then put on another coat. Last night, it was still "tacky" so I wiped off the gunk with a clean towel. Then, this morning...I reapplied another coat of stain. Question - Will that "gunk" ever dry up? Can I put the cleat coat on top of the "tacky" stain or should I completely towel off that "gunk" and let it dry prior to the clear coat. The stain directions really didn't mentioned anything about the tacky stuff, so I'm at a loss of how to proceed. Thanks! K
  12. Yes...it's great that Google is non-profit and provides all of these cool services using information that is okay to distribute. Free like a puppy!

    Triple Bypass

It took a lot of convincing my girlfriend to drive (to bring a few bikes), but it appears if I hook her up for a day at Vail Spa, that I can break free. Sunday we are climbing Mt. Evan's (road, of course) or hitting up some single track (mtb, of course). I'll shoot you a note!

    Triple Bypass

I'm making my annual summer trip out to Colorado to ride in the Triple again. If any BOLers are around, post a note and perhaps we can carbo-load (i.e. drink beer). It's been a season plaqued with injury, do it will be a casually paced Triple this year. K
  15. I think it's a good idea, although I REALLY hate when I see laws passed like this.... Quick Release shouldn't be put on beginner/amatuerish type bikes. People don't know how to use them.... You'll see A LOT of these next year.. http://www.clixqr.com/
  16. The Soloist Team DOES NOT come with the FIXED Carbon post, but the regular "flip flop" carbon post is an option. The stripping issue isn't just with installation, but can happen during riding (with the flip flop head). As for Cervelo addressing it, they have released several different seat post heads over the years with mixed results.....
  17. Sucks they broke, but that's part of the deal.......
  18. Justin - You talk about racing and being aero....are you racing road (crit, road, etc), triathlons and/or time trials? I chat with Gerard several times a year and various events. Very nice group of people until you try to get customer service...typical small company syndrome. It's VERY important to go through a top 10 dealer (who has spare parts and clout to pull strings at Cervelo). I'd recommend RA Cycles. I've had a Soloist long before they were popular. Matter of fact, mine has a 1" steerer! No doubt about it, the Soloist team is a great value, but it also has some serious flaws. Love it or hate it, the compact geo is a lil messed up. Why? B/c of the ACTUAL angle of the seat post tube (not the effective position after saddle fore/aft). Therefore, you get progressively more "rear" end as the slope is pretty slack. Not a huge deal, but if you are downsizing your bike (high seat post/low front end), this may be an issue. Stiff? Well..it's depends what you are comparing it to! There are NO published tests on the Soloist, but rather most of the other Cervelo frames. Why? Well..b/c it sells well enough w/o releasing them. It is a alum bike and it will wear out over time. Now..the biggest problems: 1) Alum seat post is a boat anchor 2) Seat tube collar is prone to stripping 3) Flip floppable seat head bolt is prone to stripping 4) Seat clamp bolt is prone to stripping All of the stripping above is within the recommended torque settings, btw. The solution? Find a Soloist Carbon owner (or shop) who will sell you a FIXED seat post. You still might have issues with the collar, the the fixed post is a VERY GOOD seat post. The "flip flop" marketing of the Soloist is all smoke and mirrors. If you have your bike fitted for proper "road" position, it's MUCH MORE difficult to get a good aero position than simply tossing on some aerobars and flipping the seat around. Most likely, you'll have to adjust the seat height, seat fore/aft, handle bar height, reach, aerobar length/height, etc and the list goes on. That said, the Soloist is a good road bike OR a good tt/tri bike, but NOT BOTH unless you have the time/patience to swap it around and a box full of spare collars, seatposts. Net-net - Buy it as a ROAD BIKE and keep it that way. It you wanna a tri/tt bike, there are much better choices for less money. K
  19. Run of the mill counter rotation. Plenty of articles in the archive that address this. K
  20. There's a dozen ways to skin this cat.... PC or MAC? IMO, Symantec's Internet Security is the most useful (and effective) "bundle" for antivirus, firewall and parental controls. Extremely easy to configure your set-up, even with different user accounts (I sure HOPE you are using User Accounts). The ad blocker is also very effective for "hiding" hidden banner's (porn, etc) which might reside on different pages, such as MySpace, where you might allow access to the URL. Good luck. K
  21. I don't see any facts in your post....rather anecdotal information. That's fine, but you can't compare the magnitude of pc security to mac security. It would be like comparing border security challenges of Mexico to that of Canada. I love Macs, I have 3 of them sitting in front of me right now (although one is in a box). The situation you paint above is so complicated I don't know where to begin. It's best to "agree to disagree" and acknowledge that they are different machines with different strengths and weaknesses rather than throwing rocks.... Security isn't meant to be a vertical feature of an OS, but rather a horizontal layer built throughout all integrated applications. This is an area where you'll see growing concern moving forward. edit - Here's an interesting blog on the topic which contains a bit of data. I do think the term "security" with dramatically change in the next several years (i.e. - malware, while annoying, usually doesn't pose a true security risk as much as an indentifier of a security hole). http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=324&tag=nl.e622 Damn it...I keep having to edit my post because Symantec's report just got released. Yep, Windows is most secure OS. Actually is surprising news. http://www.internetnews.com/security/article.php/3667201
