Thanks for the interest. SOLD. I have for sale a Coiler VSR 180 for sale. Sidewall: "T180 VSR M+ O11SK1 -6.8 +6" This is a pre-Nirvana, VSR titanal construction board with the optional turbo construction, which included additional carbon overlay. It was a Medium+ sidecut (sorry don't remember the actual numbers). The tophseet is scuffed and scratched here and there, all cosmetic, the edges and base are perfect. It has been consistently and carefully tuned by the local racer shop with edge angles of 2/0.5 and has had one base grind. It rides fast, and damp with insane edge hold with the turbo construction. $125+ shipping costs.

The Nomad has a progressive sidecut varying from 7 to 12 for the longer boards to 7 to 9 for the shorter boards, standard lengths from 149 to 164. The shovel's very small sidecut makes it super turny for the steeper bumpier stuff. I find it quite maneuverable despite the 172 length of my board because of this. When the surface is very soft or in deep powder the sidecut I find is not as noticeable but just manifests as easy turn initiation. Anyway, wonderful board, have had a lot of very good days on it this year so far despite the crappy conditions we've been getting in the pacific northwest.

DONEK NOMAD. Jeesh, this question and similar ones come up all the time and I can't believe I'm one of the few people to have a Donek Nomad. This thing SLAYS in powder... it's Donek's Dupraz style shape, with a huge shovel, generous decamber up front, camber under foot, stiff stubby tail, mondo taper. The tail is stiff enough to carve hard if you want. I got mine in carbon (crazy light), 172, 23 cm waist, and I ride it with hardboots. I have a 192 Tanker as well, one of the good years, and I love my Nomad more... this is probably sacrilege to a couple people on this board so I'll probably get flamed. =)

So I'm going up to Bachelor at the end of month for a conference. Since I've never been to Bachelor with my carving set up, what runs/lifts should I be looking at for maximum fun? I'm an intermediate carver, still learning how to handle the steep stuff. I will have my powder board with me too in case it dumps.

I know you've already decided to go for the 3800, but I would throw in another vote for a Nomad. Sean made me one last year at 170 length with a 23 cm waist for hardboots and this thing RIPS in anything off piste. The only terrain I have trouble with really is refrozen crud and sastrugi, which honestly nothing can ride well. It has a generous nose with a lot of taper, pretty stiff tail to help you paddle it around in the really deep stuff, and a generous decamber in the nose to make it float like a dream. Awesome.

I'll be up probably for the 18th and 19th. Mike, if you're coming, I would love to try out that new coiler. Does anyone have any idea where everyone is planning to meet up? Any specific part of the mountain? Sam.

I second that Dan. The conditions were actually quite good, but I swear they had their B team grooming yesterday. Really annoying when you hit big old shelves while making transitions. I thought I saw another set of trenches but didn't get to run into you. Btw, did you see the monoskier?!? There was some dude sporting a monoski and a jacket that I swear was preserved in a time capsule from the 80's. :p

It's 13-20 usually, if I remember correctly. Is that what you're going to be on tomorrow?

Got to get up here on Friday, since I had a shift at the clinic. The morning was FANTASTIC. Beautiful, ultra smooth grippy chalk, enough for me to do some EC impressions, rare for me. Just as good as the other day I was compelled to write. But, unlike that day, it warmed up pretty quick, and by noon or one or so was pretty spent, soft, slushy, and piled up in a lot of places. If you were careful to stay on edge it was still a lot of fun busting through the lumpy stuff but transitions could be a bit sketch. By 3 or 4 or so though it was already turning rock hard. I don't know what tomorrow will be like... I'm afraid it got pretty warm, so if you're lucky, you'll probably get some sugar snow on top of some hard stuff. Anyway, it looked like I was the ONLY carver today. :( I didn't see a single other set of trenches all day. Sam.

Now that's inspiring. Truly freeriding (even on some moguls ) on a carving board and hardboot setup. Great video.

Today was probably the best carving day I've ever had at Meadows. Bluebird, perfectly smooth grippy chalk, stayed cold so the surface didn't melt. Plus a new set of Track 325 boots with BTS, made for a spectacular breakthrough day. Boarded with Doug for a little bit and, of course, I saw Dan up there too as well. What a day. (still glowing!)

Good Lord, near complete white out conditions all day, but just DUMPING snow most of the day. Mid weight snow, not the lightest and fluffiest, but still, fresh powder is fresh powder! Some spots were up to 2 feet of fresh. And free refills all day. Had a great time doing laps off Shooting Star and down Apollo for some steep and deep. Got to take out my new Nomad 172 for the first time today. What an amazing board for the conditions today, finally understood what it's like to have a board that is constantly trying to seek the surface, on steeper grades I felt like I was constantly jumping from one turn to the other without any effort on my own. Felt like a rodeo! I'll be here for the next two days as well!

My new Donek Nomad Carbon 172, 23 cm waist. My new powder/off piste/all sorts of unpredictable conditions on Mount Hood/but still carve when I want it to.... gun. Rounds out my quiver, with my Coiler VSR Mid+ 180, Tanker 192. Now all I need is a turnier slalom board. Kessler 172 maybe, or even 168?

Holy crap Bryan! I'm really sorry to hear that. Was it your dominant eye? I hope you have a quick and uneventful recovery. How in the world did you do that btw? Spontaneously? Sam.

BTW, the typical symptoms are usually LEFT arm pain and chest pressure. Granted you can have almost any kind of symptom, I've even seen someone with a "weird toothache" who ended having a heart attack. But when physicians talk about "typical angina", this usually means chest pressure, possibly with pain radiating to the left arm, sometimes associated with shortness of breath, sweatiness, or nausea, and associated with exertion.

Sorry Gavin, didn't mean to rush you. It was nice to meet up for a few runs with another carver. I never thought of myself as fast, but then again maybe I've picked up a bit over the last year... at least I hope so! The conditions on the Vista side were surprisingly nice. I would dare say around 10 ish or so the conditions were close to hero groom especially on south canyon. Star and Vista were crap however. I really haven't had much luck with that side in the late season... the grooming crew usually hits those areas first, and the snow is usually still a little soft when they groom them, so they have plenty of time overnight to set up into beautiful looking but ROCK HARD groom. Not much fun. =(

That call of a shoulder separation on the basis of that xray is a very soft call. I don't think you can confidently call it unless you do ab/ad-duction views. Plus you didn't mention that they "rushed" you to surgery because of your spiral fracture, not because the ER doc missed the shoulder separation, which doesn't require surgery at all. Most ER docs know what they are doing, including me. Don't be mislead by follow up docs eager to try to prove how incompetent ER docs are just to make themselves look better. Believe me, this is a common occurrence. That is a nasty fracture though. Must've hurt like the dickens. Heal fast and get back out there! Sam.
