  1. Raichles have wider heel and ankle volume. I have a narrow heel and ankle and use a .5 M size smaller liner and that has worked pretty well. I use a stock nonmoldable liner.

  3. Snowest is correct. I have the freecarve bindings and you can move the bails to another set of notches to get a whole new range of boot sizes. Will work with about all sizes of hardboots.
  4. Have a friend that rides a custom freecarve Kessler. He absolutely rips on it. Leaves 8" trenches when the snow is soft and he carves the stepest groom.
  5. Not sure? It has a "W" with the markings on the sidewall. I'm pretty sure about the width as my size 26 M boot is set at around 55 deg to prevent boot out. Definitly narrower than 23.
  6. Most of the time, everyone I ride with other than carvers want to ride steeps. This includes my son. If he wants to ride the park, that is when I get to carve. I have a Generics Peak 160, SG Cult 169, and Coiler AM 172. I ride the Peak and Cult on double blacks with no problem. They will carve OK as well. It is hard to clip in on the hike to terrain though. I also would rather hike in softboots. Guess I will enjoy my time riding with my son. He is getting so good though that I get pretty tired trying to keep after 4-5 double black steeps. At least it is getting me in shape and I know that he is safe. Looks like I'll get to carve all day on Sat when he goes to mogel team practice though. Tomorrow is teacher work day so looks like I'll be doing a lot of hiking in softies
  7. Any ideas on how to be able to carve when everyone that you ride with in your family doesn't and hates groomers? If I'm riding with my son, sometimes I can get him to do laps in the terrain park and be able to carve. I rarely get to go by myself and do laps on the groomers. Sometimes I can take 2 boards, 1 for carving and 1 for all mountain so I can carve a few hours in the morning and then hit the steeps in the afternoon. My son is only 10 so not too keen on letting him ride by himself. He is always doing unmarked locals runs and double blacks. Hard to keep him reigned in.
  8. SOLD! I just picked these up about a month ago from Tpalka. I paid $50 and picked them up from him. They are in VG shape and don't look like they had much use. I replaced one of the cant pieces with a new one. They have the 5 position lean. There are only 3 buckles and a powerstrap on the top and liner. You could easily put a 4th buckle on as there are holes to do such. The liners are in VG shape too. These are a little tight on me. Funny, because I am using the same size in a 323 boot. The issue was with the length. Might just be the liner. It is different than what is in my 323s. My feet measure out at 26.7. They would probably fit great if you are between a 26 and 26.5. The heel and toe pads are in great shape and every thing works properly on them. Asking $75 shipped for them. Or you can pick them up in Telluride for $50.
  9. Sounds like you got the right idea for a board. I would go with a medium flex boot. Which boot you go with would depend on if your foot is narrow in the heel/ankle. If you have a wider foot then a Raichle boot. If you went with the TD3 and want to use it for all mountain riding in addition to carving, you might want to consider the SW variety to get some lateral flex. If you really want a board that performs well as an all mountain, you might want to look at a Dupraz D1++ in 6' length. My standard softboot one is incredible off piste, especially in powder. It will also rail in good groom with softboots. I would imagine the hardboot version would do even better on the hardpack.
  10. For the past several seasons, I've used bindings that only had cant in them and no lift of any kind. Now I got a Elan Speedball 163 that is pretty narrow (18 cm or less). I also aquired some TD1's with 3 deg cants. I set these on this board with toe lift on the front a heel lift on the back foot. I really like the way it felt. This was the 1st time I have riden the board. I was using 60 deg on the front and 52 on the back. This is about 5-10 deg more angle than I use on any other board (they are all wider). Will the lift be something useful for less angle? How about for freeriding or powder? Was thinking of selling all my bindings and buying some TD3's and 2nd board kits.
  11. Got a new to me AM 172 in the wide version (21.5cm). Full titanal topsheet. Just happened to be built for my weight. Man is this board fun . It has a 12m sidecut. I think it was built in 09. Very manuverable. I've only had it out 2 days. Yesterday was the 1st day that I got to really ride it. Light was totally flat so I was not really charging that hard yet. Found that it had great edge hold on the firm hardpack cord. Was able to make big sweeping arcs or real tight ones on command. Very stable. Really wants to charge down the fall line but you could swing it across or uphill very easily. 1st time I've ever had my armpits drag the ground! As far as the AM part of it, felt like a much shorter board than it is. I was able to run through some blue tree runs with ease. Also was able to do 360 spins and slash turns up on the banks as if it was a 160 freeride board. I ran over an area that was full of the 1'+ deep wooped de doos and just skimmed over the tops of them. Really is the most versatile board I've ever riden. This thing totally rocks:biggthump
  12. Had the same thing happen to me 6 weeks ago. Got X-rays and they came up negative. Still sore, but it has actually helped to keep riding. I sat around the house one weekend and could hardly move on Monday. I've been riding to keep things loose and it feels much better. Only part of riding that is not helping is any jarring from running over rough surfaces or doing jumps and landing without fully compressing with the knees. Stretches and yoga positions like downward dog have also seemed to help. Won't hurt to get it checked out by a Dr. if pain is not ever getting better. Go to a D.O. who can do wonders for your back through manipulation.
  13. Can offer bindings with the SG for additional $'s. Options: 1. older SnowPro Race + $50 2. like new Nidecker Freecarve + $50 (I just bought these last fall for $100 new) 3. SnowPro Race with F.A.S.T. step in. New heels included. + $60 4. TD1s step ins. no/heels 3 deg and purple bumpers + $100 (will have these next week when my friend gets back in town that is using them). 5. TD1 standard 3 deg cants, purple bumpers in like new condition + $110 Just add the price of bindings to board costs and will ship both for that price. Will only sell one set of bindings with the board as I use them on multiple set ups I have.
  14. Glad the Proton worked out for you. It is a great ride.
  15. bump bump bump. very nice board for a great price.
  16. Have a SG Speed 178 on E-bay. I could also come up with some bindings. Don't have any boot in that size though.
  17. WhooHooo! Telluride represents. 17 yr old from T-ride takes Pro win! Sweet!
  18. Have you considered the Coiler Angryy? It think it is a updated copy of the Madd 158. Here is a link to the Coiler page for it. http://www.coiler.com/angrry.html
  19. What board is it? I've got a cap construction Oxygen Apex that has a crack between the metal edge and where it was pressed together. I've been riding it like that with no problems so far. I melt wax over the crack when I tune to keep it sealed up. I use the board for carving, tight trees, steeps, and powder. Is my cheap rockboard, but performs well. I was thinking of trying to get some epoxy in the crack and then clamping it together. If you happen to hit the edge on anything where the crack is, it might lead to a complete failure. But, so far, normal riding has not been a problem.
  20. Forgot to mention that a stepin type binding might be better for you. Less flex and less overhang than a standard binding.
  21. Make sure you get a wider board for that boot size. I would think the minimal width would be 22 cm so you don't have to run crazy steep angles to avoid boot out.
  22. Need something along the lines of a modern version of 'Hard Attack'. All mountain assault by hardbooters. Hardboots can do a lot more than just carve.
  23. You could just use the plates on your softboot board. Otherwise you might be able to find a short older slalom board in the 150-155 range that would work for your size.
  24. Have a pair of the top part of the bindings. Includes the plates with toe and heel bail assembly. No mounting disks or center nut. Would be good for spare parts or if you have the disks they would work fine. Free to a good home. Just pay for shipping and you can have them.
  25. Seems like snowboarding in general is dying down some. I know in the last 7 season here there seem to have gone down from about even to more snowboarders to less that a 50/50 division of skiers to snowboarders. There are tons more skiers in the kids ski club than snowboarding. They used to have an alpine snowboard training program. No more. Just a big alpine ski program. All the snowboarders are on the freestyle team. The coach still carves though. We have 3 new hardbooters this season. 2 of them are skiers. 1 is a snowboarder in his early 40's. Skiers also seem to have a much better transition to carving. I think they are used to the forward stance and are more comfortable tipping a board over on edge.
