  1. She turned 21 this year and runs like brand new.
  2. Too bad I'll miss you guys. I might go Sat. and stay overnight. Bruce, where do you usually ride? Edit: I guess only Magic Carpet and Silver Bullet will be open so you'll be hard to miss.
  3. You're right, my initial level of discomfort had more to do with the fore-aft stiffness. With my soft Raichles, I'm used to bending deep, pressuring the nose and whipping the board through the apex. With the ski boots, it was more of a let-it-ride feel. This was only one day but as the day wore on, I felt more and more comfortable.
  4. 90 Flex. They are Nordica Speedmachine or something like that. I now have a pair of Krypton Cross but haven't tried them yet.
  5. You definitely have ride a certain way with ski boots. Basically, tip the board on edge, then pressure. It took me about 3-4 runs to get used to it the first time I tried. If you ride with a rotational style, you end up on your ass. Ski boots would not be my first choice with a snowboard but I was surprised that they rode better than I expected.
  6. Chubz: I guarantee all that software is pirated. If you're okay with running pirated software, any self-respecting college or high school student can get all that for you for a case of beer. So, don't put any value into any of it unless it comes with a legitimate license. One *big* factor in your decision is Firewire. Apple, in it's infinite wisdom, left out the Firewire port on its latest MacBooks. Not sure about the Air. Firewire is a must-have for importing video unless you are using one of the new camcorders that record to SD cards.
  7. Any Intel Mac is going to do what you want and more. I own five Macs. The only one I wouldn't want to do video editing on is the G4 iBook. Even my 1.83 Mac Mini works great for video editing. Typically, when editing video, the graphics card is the least of your concerns. The bottleneck in your workflow will be 1) capturing your video, which you can do nothing about since it has to be real-time, 2) rendering, which is dependent on processor speed and RAM. If you end up with the iMac, get the 24". Not just for screen size but screen quality. The 20" uses a TFT screen which is only good if viewed straight on. The 24" uses S-IPS which is much better for off-angle viewing. But, for $2500, you can get a Mac Pro and it doesn't get any better than that. You can load it up with 32GB of RAM and four PCI Express expansion cards. It's user serviceable unlike the iMac or Mini. However, you have to buy all the peripherals which will put you over the $2500 mark. Used Macs hold their value so you won't save much with them. However, I highly recommend the Apple refurbs. The last three Macs I bought were refurbs and they were indistinguishable from new. Finally, pay for the AppleCare. 3 years of piece of mind. And in 3 years, your Mac will still be very usable unlike cheaply made Dells and HPs.
  8. Here's an idea to make the board better - lock and delete threads that turn into pissing matches.
  9. In Tahoe I rode with a guy who was in softies but could carve like no tomorrow. He was riding a Nidecker Ultralight and his bindings were K2 Cinch. The bindings are kinda like Flows where you step into the back and pull up the highbacks. If I were going softies again, I'd get these.
  10. Guys, check out the thread in the Racing section about the Canadian Nationals. Looks like Dalbellos are gaining popularity amoung racers.
  11. 2003 is not old. I'm still riding a 1999 Specialized Rockhopper as my every day bike. I am really lax on maintenance and I never have had a problem with it. I have put thousands of miles on it. I have demoed newer bikes and see and feel no difference. Price depends entirely on condition but I wouldn't pay more than $500 for it.
  12. Cause darts and poker are easier and cheaper to cover and pulls in about the same viewership.
  13. Season is done (for most of us). Who's up for some golf? Anyone in Ontario or Western NY with an addiction for the game, look me up for a round. I'll play anywhere, anytime with anyone.
  14. I weigh 185lbs and I was worried that the D1+ nose was too soft. So I kept pushing my weight forward more and more all day to see what would happen. By the end of the day, I stopped worrying. I never once felt in danger of overpowering the board. I have folded the nose on my Coiler and Prior. I pushed just as hard on the Dupraz and I had no problem.
  15. Who can blame them really? I mean, this sport is dangerous as hell and only pyschos would do it. All my crap is going up on Classifieds this week. A couple of Kesslers might go so keep your eyes open.
  16. Yep, I heard some of the Ontario resorts are thinking the same thing.
  17. +1 on the stability at speed. I was ripping on it. Plus, I was over-loading the nose to initiate turns and had no problems. I did exactly the same thing, the same day, on a Prior WCR and I went over the handlebars, cracked my head and ended my day.
  18. I would say yes. If you look at the shape, it's really a freeride/AM softie board with a big nose. If you buy one, you will get every liftie commenting on it and you will get stopped 10 times a day by someone wanting to know what kind of board it is.
  19. I demoed both the 6' and 5'5". Just not enough effective edge on the 5'5". Felt like a 160ish AM board. Couldn't really carve it. The 6' was just so sweet and didn't feel long so I see no reason to go to the 5'5" unless you are really small. I even went into mogul fields with the 6' and didn't feel like I was swinging a lot of board around.
  20. I want a cage match - old school UFC style. No holds barred. I pick Varsava for that one although Bordy might shoot in for a quick groin strike. He looks pretty quick.
  21. I'm guessing the facility will be auctioned off and someone will operate it. Perhaps as a golf resort or tennis. There were a lot of rumours that IntraWest was going to buy it a few years ago. Perhaps they will now that it will be sold for a song. But then again, Fortress is having a ton of money trouble. Too bad about Gray Rocks but in the end, you can blame that swindler, Bernie Madoff. http://www.themetropolitain.ca/articles/view/460
  22. I remember when this was *the* place to ski and be seen. I never skied there. I only went to the bar a couple of times and it was hopping. That was back in the 80s. http://www.vancouversun.com/travel/Time+runs+Quebec+landmark/1418536/story.html Did anyone get some last turns in on the weekend?
  23. Petrol: If both have 700cm wheels, is there really any difference? Throw a cushy seat and fenders on a hybrid and isn't it a commuter bike?
