  1. Rick, I'm not the one who said it "rides longer" and I'm not sure what Pete meant by that. In fact, the reason I cut got it cut was to make it more maneuverable, i.e. ride shorter, and it does. Anyhoo, you don't really have an argument unless you've ridden the board, and while I can't speak for Pete, I can tell you it was worth it.
  2. Hey all, I'm neglecting my studies for this, but hell with it, thought you should all see this. Reading about the man suing Apple for I-Pod issues relating to hearing loss. Bear with me, I DO have a hardbooting connection. Noticed this statement: "He's bought a product which is not safe to use as currently sold on the market," Berman said. "He's paying for a product that's defective, and the law is pretty clear that if someone sold you a defective product they have a duty to repair it." The law is pretty clear on defective products?! Hmm, should I be suing you know who to fix my boots with the removable toe piece that could potentially cause me great bodily injury??!! Join me in a class-action anyone? Bomber excluded!
  3. Buggs, Salty Peaks: http://www.saltypeaks.com/ Give em a call and ask for Dennis Nazari (owner). He's not always in but I'm sure the guy/gal you speak with can take care of you. Or go with Peter C. His mod sure looks sweet! As for the hardpack, it rides just fine. Of course, I'm not laying it over like I would a GS board but it still carves just fine.
  4. Hey D-Sub, I appreciate your response with the "how-to" but I just don't have the time or desire at the moment to do it. Easiest way out was to e-mail Dan after he offered to host. Nils, the stock 4807 board has a small cut in the tail that didn't really do much to help the board float in pow. The cut you see in the pics has done wonders for this board and I recommend it to others. It is just a swallowtail cut, not a cut through the entire length of the board. The cut edge has been epoxied. Buggs, yep, Dennis/Salty Peaks will do mods, repairs, whatever is needed; they are a full-service board shop. They fixed my busted tail/edge on a Burton Ultra Prime several years ago. Best of all, the guys and gals there are cool and helpful. Of course, the mod wasn't free, and since I'm not handy with power tools, I wasn't goint to do it myself. I know many people on this board have such a gift, so I imagine those who have the means can DIY.
  5. Yeah, first impression I got was that it is racist. But hey, I'm a little hypersensitive about it because my studies are focusing heavily on oppression of minorities and people of color. Maybe a little disclaimer under the photo would help.
  6. Hey Jules, nice car, but WTF? What's with the "Blacks for sale" sign? Totally uncool, man.
  7. Thanks for the many offers to host my photos. I've sent them to Dan to post on my behalf. One more point, for those of you considering the mod: Dennis Nazari at Salty Peaks said he would go ahead and do the same mod on his own 4807, now that he's guinea pigged my board! I don't have specs, but the highest point in the cut is at least a fist size below the last inserts. It's stable and does not feel fragile whatsoever.
  8. Oh, I have sinned! You've heard from me rarely (due to Ph.D. studies) but I promised I would attach some photos of the O'Sin 4807 178 swallowtail mod I had done on my board. I have ridden this baby several times this year in the Utah pow and it is SWEET! Sweeter than the stock board, that's for sure, and in my opinion, much more maneuverable. The tail does not feel breakable at all (but I'm a lightweight and I wouldn't want to land on it). It was cut and epoxied by Dennis Nazari at Salty Peaks (I can walk there from my home in under two minutes, how's that for a second home?!). Anyhoo, I just might get up to PC for the WTC on Friday and will bring it (but not for you to demo). (play elevator music here) Well dammit. Seems there is a 97.7 KB size limit on a jpg photo. Both photos I have are 110 & 118 KB. Anyone care to share how I can attach the photos? Other option is to send the photos as an e-mail attachment but I'm afraid I'll be overwhelmed with e-mails from everyone who wants to see it.
  9. I've got one. Rarely used, awesome camber, big purple fingerprint graphic on topsheet. Really not sure if I want to sell it, but hey, let's talk. --Jeff-- SLC
  10. you want to trade? is that what you're offering? where in N. Nevada are you?
  11. The 178 is not hard to get. Salty Peaks has a bunch of them. However, if anyone has a good condition 168 and wants to trade for my 178, I'll be happy to do it. Mine only has a couple days on it, only used in pow at Snowbird and Brighton, no scratches, and with my lightweight, practically nil effect on the camber, so a trade would have to be comparable. Act fast, as I plan to send it in for the swallowtail mod soon! :D
  12. Sorry for not replying more regularly, I'm in the middle of many grad school assignments. Indeed, I am a lightweight, only 135 pounds, and I ride the 178! No, don't give me any crap , I've been riding for years and race on a Rossi World Cup 182, which I can handle well. ;) But I'll admit that I probably should be on a 168 O'Sin 4807. Nonetheless, I got a great deal and enjoy the board in the pow. Here's a 4807 for cheap: http://www.geartrade.com/browse/116/792/477/item/30206
  13. Don't assume I didn't. I used both TD1 Step-ins with Burton Fire boots and Flow bindings with Burton Driver boots, with bindings mounted in the rearmost possible position. Even then, I found I had to adjust my stance more to keep my nose up. The board is awesome when the nose is up and you're flying downhill at speed, not too much effort, but the swallowtail is not giving enough "sink" to make it as effortless as I think it should be at slower speeds.
  14. I haven't actually done it yet. Like I said, last year was my first on that board in the pow but I was actually advised to get it cut then, didn't do it. After last year's experience, I'm going to go ahead and do the mod. I'll be plunking down the small dough to get it done soon and hopefully can get some pics and specs posted here. Sorry to imply otherwise, I was just speaking from experience and passing on what advice I was given. The advice came from none other than Dennis Nazari, owner and founder of Salty Peaks Snowboard Shop. You guys gotta see his skateboard and snowboard museum in his shop; utterly amazing!
  15. nice pow board, but have a shop cut the swallowtail a little longer and bigger, it doesn't sink much with the swallowtail it has. i'll be on my 2nd year on one this winter. the boat hull nose wants to force the board to lean to either side when you have to get on the groomers. have fun.
  16. hey all, long time since i posted back in 2004. i'm 35, riding since '85 (Burton Elite 150) and on hardboots since '98. as for the job, i'm a university instructor and have an awesome 13th floor south corner office (no cubicle for me!) overlooking the Salt Lake Valley and the Wasatch Front! no snow in the forecast today, from my vantage point! :(
  17. hi all, long time no post. i noticed usasa is hosting some gs & sl races in utah in january and february. last year was their first season in utah, with few racers present. let's make a showing this year. check out the usasa.org website for more details. if there's a large enough turnout, maybe it'll be possible to convince the utah winter games organizers to include a gs again. --jeff
