Neuffy
Well, I've just gotten back from my 3 months at Lake Louise, and I've come to some conclusions: 1. My Coiler AM177 is probably too stiff for me...(I weigh 160 lb, stiffness index ~8.9)...but GOD the thing is stable at speed... 2. I want a short~ish, medium-soft board with a ridiculously small sidecut (~7-8m). Any suggestions on what kind of board I should get, if I'm not looking to shell out a huge amount of money? Chris Houghton
Sounds like you'll be looking for a Burton UP in the smaller size, or maybe an older Oxygen Fr if you can find one, or maybe a Sims Premium? Oh yeah, maybe a Rossi Accelerator would work too. All these would be cheap on eBay.
jason_watkins
Well, I weigh ~150lbs, and I have a AM 169 that's 7.2 stiffness index. It's no problem at all to skid this thing around in tighter steeper terrain, even though the sidecut is a touch higher than you're targeting (9.9). So if that's what you're after with the new board, I'd focus on getting the stiffness right. It seems to be quite important for folks that are at the lower end of the weight range of a typical board like you and I. I'm no carve master (yet) but it seems quite capable in that department as well so far.
Dave Pushee
Sean extended the Axis line down a notch this year. The 162 has a sidecut of 8.9.

I rode my board for the first time this weekend. Here in the northeast we experienced cold mornings and warm afternoons so I rode on packed powder, crusty hardpack/ice, and soft spring like conditions. The board is extremely adaptable to a variety of conditions and is a blast to ride. The board has the playfulness and versatility of a freeride board, however when you get it on edge it rips carves like a machine. I'm still giddy from the weekend--the board is so much fun to ride!! :)

ar(angel
I started out on a 162 and it was a great board. Yes I know they're soft and blah blah blah, but for me it was a great board to learn how to carve on. Not to mention I picked it up new in the wrapper for $139.00! That premium on ebay is interesting, check out Derf's site he posted about here earlier, I think it's in one of the catalogs he has on there...... Derf
I could pick up a board for you and ship it. The advantage would be that there would be no duty charges or exchange rate as we're the same side of the border.
Chris Houghton
Yah, in this case the 162 Burner would be a great choice. It never occurred to me because I thought it would be too pricey. Sidecut is right, flex is good.
