SG Full Carve vs Full Race

I'm thinking about buying SG slalom board over this weekend. Anyone tried both Full Carve and Full Race boards? I'm curious to learn about their differences on the slope.

I have more than 10 years on snowboard and more than 5 years with hardboots, but mainly with narrow boards. I've got pretty good with my favorite Oxess XX 185 and recently I've decided to start racing - don't want to stop learning and want to progress further with different snowboarding skills. I'm looking to participate in amateur racing cups and use it for fun freecarve. I'm 185 cm, 78 kg.

SG website says "Alpine extreme carve and freeride board for easy and quick racing" about Full Carve. It seems that it's what I need. But isn't it just a marketing trick to sell cheap non-metal boards to those who can't afford Race Pro?! They never tell "it's cheaper version of ... and it performs worse" in marketing...

What do you think? Budget is not an issue for me - I just want to have the best board possible for what I'm going to do.

If budget isn't an issue I wouldn't think warranty would be either?

I mention Kessler, because I'm looking at buying one myself :) And a reputable snowboard builder told me that the SG product is flawed from start to finish (?). Won't name names though, but now I don't even look at them. Probably not good on my part, though.

Why do you think Kessler is better? It's not easy to buy real Kessler these days - they produce their great Swiss hand made boards only for athletes. Mass market boards that you see in shops are being produced at F2 factory in Austria and I heard they are not nearly as good as original Kesslers.

SG seems to be softer than Kessler, which I like. That's why I prefer my Oxess over Viruses for example.

Anybody had experience with different sg boards?

Well.. I had owned SG Full Race and now ride SG Full Carve. Your "Cheap non-metal....performs worse" is way off for Full Carve. I can say both boards like fall line. Full Race is more damp since it has Titanal layer in it, which will be useful on ruts on gates but Full Carve is also damp, not as much as Full Race but damper than any other non-metal boards I've ridden. Now for freecarving, Full Carve stands as its name. I was informed that a lot of racers actually prefer Full Carve if they do not run gates and I total agree with that.

For me, choosing between SG vs. (stock) Kessler is easy. Rather I'll have hard time to choosing from SG vs. Oxess for freecarving.

Sorry, when I saw you say no budget and said get a Kessler, I meant get a custom Kessler, of course.

My Kessler got stolen last weekend. I need something fast - can't wait till the end of the season to get another custom kessler. SG seems to have the best stock boards.

I also owned production Kessler boards.

The performance of the SGs is incredible - very high standard. A lot of professional riders chose exactly these boards.

The SGs are not softer than the production Kesslers. It is the other way round. This is rather a matter of taste.

FullCarve vs. FullRace - the FullCarve is an extremely nice board, but if you are interested in racing and budget is not an issue, I would definitely go for a FullRace - vibration dampening and ice grip is superior (exactly the things you need in a mashed up race course!).

And also think about a suitable plate!

I agree with WG!

185 SG I've tried (Scooby's) is noticeabley stiffer then all the 185 Kesslers I've ridden. It looks very solid, while with Kesslers I'm always worried I'd brake/bend them. However, I preffer how Kessler rides, but that's highly individual.

SG is made in Elan factory, so the build should be top notch.

purpletiesto, the Kesslers deserve all the hype they get ;-). The boards are built nicely - I especially like the Ptex top sheet - it looks good, protects the titanal layers nicely and it is supposed to add some more dampening to the board. The new version also has all kinds of inserts which is nice if you want to add a plate.

The boards have a pretty fast turn initiation (tighter radius in the nose) and they are not as stiff as certain other race boards. That makes for a really fun ride where you can easily manipulate the board into different turning shapes. Especially the SL version was very satisfying in this area.
