bigwavedave
I'ld like to come up tomorrow which looks like a nice day. How close are we to getting some more terrain open?
khoward
Was out for a couple hours yesterday afternoon. Great packed powder, but still only the three runs. They're moving the piles of snow around on Four-Pipe below the Double Jaw lift yesterday, and they've made lots of snow. It's possible the whole run could be open by Thursday. Will try to get in a few runs after work tonight. Russ or Jane may know more.
rwmaron
I'ld like to come up tomorrow which looks like a nice day. How close are we to getting some more terrain open? I don't have any better info - based on Ken's observation I'd say the chances are good to have more terrain by the weekend, but iffy for tomorrow. I'm planning to ride for a bit Thursday morning (and get Patroller Don kitted up for the season). Russ
-Ryan-
Rode this morning. Lower part of 4 pipe is open. Upper has a good layer of snow previously pushed around by the cat, and some big piles of snow scattered about. A thursday 4 Pipe run looks to be a distinct possiblity. Smooth that new lift is - love it.
khoward
Took a few runs after work. The middle portion of four pipe should be ready by tomorrow :)
rwmaron
Fourpipe is open - conditions were excellent this morning...an inch or two of fresh atop the groom: <a href="http://s996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/rwmaron/?action=view¤t=December132012002.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/rwmaron/December132012002.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> A small, but determined posse consisting of Big Wave Dave, Patroller Don, and yours truly: <a href="http://s996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/rwmaron/?action=view¤t=December132012005.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/rwmaron/December132012005.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> So we were having a grand old time when the new Express lift ground to a halt around 10:30; turns out the lift has a BPU (back up power source) a diesel engine, actually, that got us slowly to the top after 30 minutes of waiting. At least it wasn't windy and below zero........ Russ
Gramma Jane
Took the Metal AX, her name is Phoenix, down 4 Pipe several times--after spending some quality time on the bunny hill! She even got off the lift without killing me! Ah, the adventures of learning how to drive a carving board! Taking a pass on today--if you go, bring an umbrella :(. bumpyride
Anyone need smaller carving boards for women or kids? Will be arriving in Duluth Monday and can pack a few extra boards.
rwmaron
Feeling PRETTY inadequate.....I will arrive with the same old stuff this year......sigh..... Word on the street is that a big, black top Kessler might be on the market soon...... IF the rain turns to snow this evening as predicted, I'll be out first thing tomorrow morning. Bumpyride - post here when you're going to ride to see if we can hook up! Russ
khoward
We took a couple of runs. Pretty icy.
bigwavedave
Snow? Ice? Still making snow? Did you get out today and how was it? Thinking about coming up tues or thurs.
khoward
I was out tonight for a few runs after work, and conditions were fairly good...a lot better than yesterday. Fast hard pack, but not really icy. The Donek Metal FC held an edge nicely. Russ was out with a bunch of Ski Patrol Candidates on snowboards on Bindle Stiff. Should be excellent tomorrow after a night of cold temps and grooming. Snow making is going full bore on the outer runs, but I'd be surprised if any new terrain will be open by tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if nearly everything is open this weekend. We'll see what Russ' perspective is on this...
rwmaron
Should be excellent tomorrow after a night of cold temps and grooming. Yes, and better yet on Thursday after a couple more grooming runs and good cold nights to get things to set up a bit (and a better chance that Fourpipe will be open full width). Just my $0.02 worth...... Russ
khoward
Should be there early afternoon tomorrow...
-Ryan-
Road this morning... Better than I expected after the rain, but under the groom lies a sheet of ice quick to punish poor technique. Four Pipe remains 3/4 width. Rode for two hours, left with a smile on my face and a few more in the snow ) ( ) ( :-)
khoward
Excellent...gonna try to get a few turns in on the evening session tonight. Played around with the cant, and we'll see how that works.
bigwavedave
I rode on Tuesday morning til about 1PM. Hooked up with Russ and Ken for several runs late morning in flat light. Carving was great for about the first hour til we started getting down into the crunchy ice layer. Snowmaking was going great-guns. Looked as though they should have the rest of 4pipe plus the one next to it (12?) and maybe Gandy by the weekend.
bumpyride
Out to spirit for my $15 half day ticket. Pretty breezy, but fun for a first day out. Keep me posted when anyone is planning on riding. A PM works.
khoward
There's a possibility of a few runs tomorrow evening after work.
bumpyride
There's a possibility of a few runs tomorrow evening after work. Give me a heads up. If it's still as windy, it probably won't be worth it.
khoward
I'll probably get over to Spirit around 5:30-6:00 PM for about an hour.
bumpyride
I think I was bad and have to take my wife out to dinner. Later on I hope.
rwmaron
under the groom lies a sheet of ice quick to punish poor technique. We needn't be concerned with the layer of ice under the groom anymore; with the cold weather, the hill is setting up nicely to it's normal, firm, state. bigwavedave
Tomorrow, Santa on a snowboard.
bigwavedave
Rode from 9-1:30 today. Enough room on the great white groom to get the big black board out and reconnect--magic! I could hear the ice layer after a couple of hours, but I couldn't feel it. Looks like a couple more runs might be open by tomorrow, GandyD and the other one, 12? Saw Santa in a sleigh, no sign of other carvers, not even the Maronator. Well, the world didn't end, so I guess I'll be back up Thursday. ~Merry Christmas~
