Linus
It's been 4 years since I rode my softboot setup and I just bought a brand new freeride/freestyle board. I want to ride this board with my Flow. I do remember I use to ride f45 and r35 to practice carving but I don't know what my stance width was. so here are the questions that I want to ask you guys. How wide should I ride with f45 r35 with Flows? Also if I use plates, should I use same setup as my carving board? I'm 5'11" 180lb. ride hardboots with f57 r52 and 19.25" stance Also let me know how you ride your softy. thx in advance
bobdea
it changes with all my boards in soft boots usually comes to 20 to 22 inches for me depends on how I feel, what I wanna do and how the board handles alpine it is I have ridden 17 inches right up to 20.5 the best place to start is at the reference stance is that is on alot of decks if it is a burton you are in luck they all have them

Derf
I ride 18" with plates and 20 inches with softies, so if you ride 19.25" with plates, I'd say go around 21.5" or 22" with you softies.
Mike T
I ride anywhere betwwen 19 and 20 inches on both plates and softies - angles in the 50's to around 60 in plates, and 24/15 ish on softies. I find that by going wider on softies, it becomes too hard to decamber the board at slow speeds.
Donek
Linus, Our recommended starting point is: center to center distance should be equal to the distance from the bottom of your heel to the center of rotation of you knee. Shoulder width is another relative approximation, but it's difficult to measure on yourself.
Guest AlpentalRider
I ride 19" at 33/30 in my softies and 17" 57/54 in my hardboots and that seems to work for me. For some reason my body likes a narrower stance. If I go to 21" I feel like i'm doing the splits lol. I would say start with the lowest angles without overhang that you can first, and then slowly increase the angles and see which you like better (just like the eye doctor lol). What works for us may not work for you, so experimentation is the key.
D-Sub
CMC and co had a formula for stance width that had to do with your inseam...anyone remember that one? I like Donek's too
Neil Gendzwill
Sean, is that your formula for softies? Works out to 21" for me, a wee bit wide for hard boots IMHO.
D-Sub
yeah mines 21 too I actually have my 161 at 22 right now, but mainly due to binding mount inflexibility. 20.5-21 is probably the widest I should go
D-Sub
found it: "1) Decimal 6 x your leg inseam=stance width 2) Your height divided by 3.5=stance width" so at 31.5 inseam, my stance = 18.9? too narrow:) and...height / 3.5 = 21.14 if we're talkin inches? If your knee had a hinge pin in it, that would be where the measurement is taken from. Kind of dead center on the side of your knee. The bottom of your heel should also be in your socks, not in shoes or a boot.
