two_ravens
Yeah, we are now up to 223% of normal snowpack in the region - in '97 when we set new records for river flows we were only at 143%..... Got to paddle the Snake at 33,000 cfs that year - that's about 20,000 cfs over normal high water levels. :p They just resurrected the avalanche forecasts for our local backcountry, as there is potential for enormous avalanches in areas that haven't slid for years, or ever... Not just skiers are at risk, but hikers now too as trails open up at lower elevations, but in the path of high altitude avalanches that may run much farther than ever before. BlueB
Slush puppies at closing day of Blackcomb, today. Still lots of snow in the upper reaches of the mountain. Lots of mini avalanches at the steep easilly hiked areas just around glacier lifts. Blackcomb Glacier will continue to August, Grouse to July. Yet, I think, I'll hang my boots now... two_ravens
Finally - two days in a row with sunshine and no snow! Local gardening lore has it that it's safe to plant when all the snow is off the King. At this rate it looks like we'll be good to go by July 4. :) Good thing I like winter more than gardening.
