pm_wizard
Has anyone been to Tremblant recently? I need to bust out and I can't cope with the ten hours to Sugarloaf, is the riding any good at Tremblant yet? Anywhere else better in the Eastern Townships maybe or Vermont. Help me, I need time on the snow and away from TO.... How about le Massif? is it up and running? John
Linus
I was there for 2days. condition wasn't that bad for november but they were busy. which means NO CARVING!!! I think you better off somewhere else.
ARCrider
I'm heading there Friday afternoon for Sat/Sun supposed to be 20 runs open. maybe I'll see you there don't think lemassif is open yet Ste-Anne has some runs on the north side open
skategoat
Check out www.tremblant-insider.com Click on the Chat link. This guy lives near the mountain and skis it every day. He gives the straight scoop on conditions. IMO, Tremblant blows. Expensive, crowded and not carving friendly.
ARCrider
I've been there before and know it well. its still early enough to get the super-econo deals
Guest The other Jacques
ARCrider, Seeing as how you'll be driving right past Trenton on your way to Tremblant, do you have room for a boy and his boards? Have gas money. But if that giant car of yours of is full have fun without me.
Guest The other Jacques
I have been there many times as well and have only gently hit a couple of skiers (actually they hit me after I got under them). True it's expensive but a few of the runs work for carving.
pm_wizard
Skategoat, Thanks for the link to the Tremblant chat... not sure if it's worth the drive to Acton yet. I've been to tremblant a couple of times before, and I know it is not the best of carving hills (due mostly to crowds), but I am getting desperate. Help, anyone suggest anywhere else to go next weekend to get some carve time in? The hills in Collingwood are essentially bare as far as I can tell. Thanks, John
skategoat
PM: What about venturing south of the border? American money is on sale. http://www.holidayvalley.com/snowreport.cfm It's not open yet but they got 8" yesterday. It always snows in Western New York. I'll bet it opens next week. pm_wizard
I've never been to Holiday Valley, the weather forecast on their site didn't look too promising. I may end up driving all the way to Sugarloaf after all. John
skategoat
When are you thinking of going? I'm dying looking at the snow those guys have in Maine. Holiday Valley is similar to Blue Mountain in size and vertical. It's a broad ridge with multiple faces. Lots of variety. Lots of glades runs. But the best part is the Town of Elicottville. Very authentic ski/party town. Lots of good bars, restaurants and friendly people.
pm_wizard
The best guess I have right now would be to take next Friday through Tuesday off (Dec 10 to Dec 14). be a late night drive I guess to max snow time. John
skategoat
PM: This on the Mount St. Louis website: We will be open Saturday Dec. 4 with 2 Slopes and 1 Lift. $25 Lift Ticket Oh joy. Our California brothers are riding in a foot of fresh stuff and we're jumping up and down that there are 2 runs open at MSLM.
Derf
I dont' like Tremblant either: expensive, crowded, overhyped and badly laid out. For a little more driving, go to Ste-Anne. If the North side is open, go for it, it the best carving spot I know. Le Massif usually opens late in the season, but with the new snow canons, they may open earlier. BBQ Chef
I think that I will be going there at least once this year. My best friend has a condo there.
skategoat
Derf: Don't forget, they also have the most misleading snow reports in the country. The guy at Tremblant-insider reports that Intrawest reported 21 runs open with top to bottom skiing on the weekend. The truth? FOUR runs open. And the lift tickets were $51. Apparently customer service was swamped with irate skiers demanding refunds.
