  1. So asdd me to the list of maybe's John
  2. Congrats to your son (and the subtle assistance he has had along the way !!!). John
  3. More lurking Canadian voter(s). I voted Stowe for a variety of reasons: it is closest to Toronto (still a long way), I have a bed to sleep in there, I know the mountain, they have upgraded the chairs, there is a lot of end of day activity... John
  4. An instructor once told me the most dangerous words on the hill are "follow me Dad!" John
  5. Spring riding coming tomorrow! +7 in Toronto anyway Sounds like fun everyone, I'm off to the motorcycle show today at the Convention Centre! John
  6. Better make that 2 hours north of Toronto.... Unless you've found that miracle route that we have all been looking for! Chris: Thanks for organizing this day, John
  7. Phil, I am more than happy to buy from Bomber, but I can't see any reference to these gloves having built in wrist guard. How does the wrist protection in them work? John
  8. Thanks, I have no particular problem with the strap over guards, except that they scoop up snow between the guard and the glove which then melts to help make the whole wet hand experience work! Also when I take the gloves off to go into the chalet or whatever, I often drop one! I will have to try to find a pair of the Impact gloves to try on. John
  9. Skatha, How are the Burton Impact gloves designed to protect? I took a look at the Burton site, and there is no mention of the form of protection, just that they are "MD approved", (managing director perhaps?). Could you explain how the protection is built in? I have been using "No Glomers" guards that slip over my glove, and I am hoping to find something more simple but just as protective. (I have broken my right wrist 3-4 times and now have an SST fusion, so I don't need to disturb my wrists any more!). John
  10. This weekend in Collingwood with my eyes glued to the Weather Network channel, lo and behold they show (again and again) footage of a carver between announcements. It looks like Collingwood/ Blue Mountain terrain. Does anyone know who it is and where? John
  11. Okayyyy... I have survived bringing up two children all the way now to 19 and 21 years old. I have got to tell you, you have to always remain alert and adult and assess things properly. My first response would have been, and on occasion was, to make sure my child was alright, and find out rationally what happened. If either is injured, the first response is care, not revenge. We as parents have a particular obligation to remain rational. What are you teaching your children (however old they may happen to be) if your response to an incident, however grave, is animal fury. So that's my take on it, he still needs to reassess his life. John
  12. He should lighten up the caffeine intake before hitting the slopes! John
  13. Which ever route I pick, the other will be the faster! During the week, I find the 400 and Hwy 26 to be the best flowing. They all seem to take the same amount of time, and you are using 2 lane country roads! See you tomorrow, John
  14. Lifts open at 8 AM and close at 4 PM Hope you can make it, but don't rush the exam! John
  15. http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/cities/can/pages/CAON0158.htm The hills are alive with... fresh snow. 5-10 cm expected in the next 24 hours John
  16. It shows how little the theory that we all beat each other up over actually matters. The small kids would go down the course fakie if they thought it was fun! John
  17. and how deep the snow is under your feet..... John
  18. Congratulations to everyone involved! John
  19. Everyone: I called the club, and it is a clear NO to setting up anything like a tent, table of workmate on either the snow or the deck. I was quoted a series of "health and safety" rules and policy of the club maintenance department. We must use the wax room (race room) for work surfaces. Sorry about this. The only other allowed area is beside your vehicle in the parking lot. On the other hand, the race room is a nice new setup, and has snowboard clamps and good usable counter space. Squire John's apparently gets a dispensation from the board of directors of the club for their demo day setup! Looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday. BTW Chris - if you are reading this, Jennifer needs your contract ASAP! John
  20. Dave, I will try to call someone at the club about doing much of a setup. One workmate on the deck should be okay, as long as we are tidy and don't block anyone. It is a Friday this time not a regular club day, so there are fewer members and more guests (works in our favour). The club does organize demo days with Squire John and sets up tents and racks for skiis, so it is not that unusual. IF the weather forecast holds true (major leap of faith) it should be a sunny day. John
  21. Everyone: Osler is in great shape from Friday night's dump. They groomed it up beautifully Saturday night, and it was cold enough to harden nicely. The weather forecast for the week has the brief reference to snowsqualls, which usually give snow to Osler when they happen. A really nice sunny day today at Osler, just to add to expectation. BTW on Saturday it looked like alot more than 22 cm! Just really heavy! John
  22. We have to be very careful of tree wells here too, you can get tangled on the roots, hit rocks and drown in the puddle.... 5 cm of new snow this morning in Collingwood. That should cover some of the gaps. John
  23. The good news is that Osler has a very good thick ice base built up, so as long as it gets a bit colder the crew will be making snow and it will stay. Unfortunately, the longer term forecast is not promising. What an odd season we are having. John
  24. Boostertwo, You have a very mean streak! That photo is just wrenching to us in the Northeast. John
  25. http://www.oslerbluff.com/directions.htm Here are driving instructions to the club. John
