SNES Injury Report: GeorgeS

Good luck with the healing George. Sorry about the accident. As carvers we are pushing that envelope on a lot of our favorite runs that have trees on the sides.

Glad to hear they found the fractures and put your Tibial Plateau back together.

That scar is going to itch! I've got one about half that length from a few years ago when I broke my lateral Femoral Condyle (the bottom of the femur that is opposite your fracture).

That's pretty gnarly looking. I feel your pain (well, not right now, but i'm familiar with it).

In any case, heal up, but don't rush it. And most important to the whole process - stay positive. It's really easy to get down and depressed and/or pissed off about the situation. You'll be back at it soon enough, things will get better.

So True. A positive mental attitude is the best way to get healthy. When I shattered my wrist many years ago (dirtbike), all I wanted to do is get back on and ride asap. That kept me going through the fun of physical therapy.

Jeez??!!! Why didn't they just start at your crotch and go clear to your toes? That is some opening.

Two hairline fractures turning into 6, is a bummer.

I too had a broken leg. Mine? "High Energy Tib-Fib" is what they called it.

I think that means it BROKE REAL GOOD!! Like big messy ends. Got a 15in Ti Nail . Not fun, 12+ weeks off work. 9 weeks , no pressure on leg/foot, lots of narcotics.

Hope you are healing up well, I missed this thread evidently first time around.

They did surgery to remove a couple of the screws at one end of the nail to incourage healing via pressure at the actual break site. Hurt like hell again for several weeks. My scars a tiny by comparison. I have six of them though. Surgery in Aspen, my surgeon here said "Nice job, I would have made much larger insisions". Must be the "Rice and famous" Drs and their not wanting to leave scars? I didn't really care much, just did a nice job of cutting me. Bryan

Hey Lance

Good to hear from you!

Yeah, I'll carpool with you but I may be a little out of the way(57 and 210 fwys).

My Doc said I will be riding this season so that's the info I'm going on. I'm walking all over the place but not always without limping, but then again I couldn't walk two months ago. I may start after the 1st of the year though.

Bryan

Thanks for the post. I think we mislabled it a hairline. It was a definite Tib/Fib as my lower leg was angled forward quite a bit more than normal right after I hit. The surgery was for the Tibial Plateau fracture on the left side of my knee(Buell was right on). Part of the Plateau broke off and need to be pushed back up and held in place with the plate and screws.

It's was great hearing from everyone local and from you and Buell and Carvedog.

Here's a front view of my "Plate"(and screws).

That's great news George! Ya, Glendora is a bit out of the way but I did just buy my pass so I will be going quite a bit. Bought a Burton 165 fusion/BX board. I figure I can ride softies or my Freecarve boots and race plates will go well with it too. Decided the pass was more cost effective than buying new boots and a bigger alpine deck. I look forward to your first day back on the Hill!
