Hotbeans
I've just read some of the best reasons to start listening to my ipod while carving. Especially the kids who get me *nearly* every time when they yell "HEY DUDE..YOU DROPPED YOUR WALLET!"
willywhit
Can you catch anything by sharing earbuds? Maybe you can catch something by being exposed to someone's earwax... I bet that hasn't been researched yet - is there protection for that? I guess you could carry a lil bag of replacement foam pads for the germaphobes in the posse. shawndoggy
I've got a Giro helmet with the "Tune Ups" kit (or whatever it's called). run it to my iphone with an inline mic/volume controller which I clip to my jacket collar. That way I can turn down the tunes on the lift to talk, and answer a call (or get notified of a text) if I get one. Great for catching up with the kids on the hill. That said, I've noticed that at comfortable volumes I can't hear the music when I'm descending anyway. Wind noise, snow noise, etc., all drowns out the sound of the music. So for me, whether music impairs my hearing while riding is a mute (pun intended) issue. If the wind noise is drowning out the music, the music isn't doing anything to impair my hearing. Steve Dold
I don't think the problem is hearing, I think it's zoning out and not paying attention. It happens to me in the car all the time listening to CDs or the phone. Music while riding seems safe enough if it's not too crowded and you pay attention. I wouldn't want to see a jackass law against it like the one we have in CA against driving while holding a phone.

powdahbonz
I tried the full face helmet yesterday for first time with my Smokin Buds earplugs and it was a p.i.t.a. The sound of the Smokin Buds is better than the Giro Tune Ups in my Giro 9 helmet but when pulling down the full-face, usually jerked the buds out of my ears, not to mention, wasn't counting on the serious decrease in vision from the full face. Liked the fit, feel and comfort of the Giro Remedy but talk about feeling blind. Almost got blind-sided yesterday and only had my volume on low-to-mid. Got to worry about what's in front-can't worry about what's behind.
