Morning

crossroads, milkrun, ballroom were groomed. although milkrun was groomed it was irregular. some soft and hard spots. same with ballroom. crossroads was good.

Icehouse Beer -- Get it Goin!

kent saw this guy drinking icehouse beer on the chair. guy was skiing with his son. it was probably about 10:30 am. i can't think of any beer i'd drink early in the morning. if i had to then it be MGD cause that's what its all i got in the fridge. i hardly drink anymore. anyways the guy wasn't exactly the best skiier -- more like a moving wall.

around 11:30 am we see the guy still casually drinking his nutrituous breakfast on the chair. mud sidled up to the ski patrol and gave them a sitrep. i don't think the guy was much of threat to others except to himself and his son. icehouse has 5.5% and who knows when this guy started. the ski patrol waited on top of the chair lift. they made the guy pour the beer. i heard the guy was pissed... "i don't have a drinking problem... i have a skiing problem!!!" angry drunks always scare me. a run or two later scuff caught a whiff of the guy. nasty.

Good thing this guy hasn't discovered Golden Monkey or Zep Imperial Ale, both are about 12% ETOH. I was wondering if anyone was planning on being out this Friday? I hate shopping and will be dropping the GF off at MOA for the day. I was out last Saturday in softies and it was fun for my first day of the year. Too many people out, plus the rail jam on milk run didn't make me comfortable putting on hardboots. On a side note, if anyone picked up this years Sampler, could I have a copy?

I might be out Kenton.

I am going to keep an eye on the weather.

I'll let you know.

Evening

crossroads was decent. edges held. there was some loose top snow. minor annoyance was kids would go towards ballroom, do a 180 off the burm, then traverse across crossroads to milkrun. i had to wait for a window on almost every run. the snow on milkrun looked okay but too many teens on that run due to the terrain park equipment. the snowboarders outnumbered skiiers by 50:1. i was there about two hours and left.

they turned on the snowguns while i was there.

Jess and I are planning to ride tomorrow morning - Turkey Day.

i'll be there too. i just drove down to lakeville and back. buck has groomed. i thought they didn't groom in warm weather. tempting to head out there at 3pm.

looks like there's almost enough snow to open the terrain park.

I think Dave might have heard Joe and I talking at the lift counter...

"Thanksgiving Day: 9am to 6pm - $26 Adult / $22 Child ($20 Early Bird! 9am-Noon)"

If I don't wake up to run, I'll be there at 9

Afternoon

all the available runs; crossroads, milkrun, ballroom, teachers pet were all groomed. it surprises me with all this warm weather.

i heard from another freerider that milkrun was irregular so i didn't bother. besides, too much traffic. crossroads was chunked up quickly in the hour i was there. the snow towards the guns is bad... big icy patches and with ATV ruts going up the hill. you end up limited to about 3/4 the width of crossroads.

it got really busy in one hour. the ski team started to practice carving on the good snow of crossroads. they really should've moved to ballroom. but then there were these snowboarders on ballroom building jumps. yep, spend all that money to ride and end up just standing around and building jumps. the lift lines grew to the point where it pushed my patience.

in and out in an hour.

<table><th width="125"></th><tr><td>Date</td><td>11/27/2008 Thanksgiving</td></tr><tr><td>Temp</td><td>31F</td></tr><tr><td>Visibility</td><td>started out gray overcast. overtime lighting improved</td></tr><tr><td>Conditions</td><td>decent for carving</td></tr><tr><td>Hardbooters</td><td>5 (me, scuff, jessie, kenton, wild bill)</td></tr></table>

Morning

crossroads, milkrun, ballroom were groomed. initially it was overcast and very hard to see. gradually the sun light filtered thru the clouds. snow was decent for carving. crossroads was good. after a few hours it was beat up. milkrun was good. the snow was decent except near the top. has some brown spots. it still has terrain park gear on it. ballroom had some rollers but hard to see.

i saw that they were trying to groom the terrain park. there's probably enough snow where they just need to spread it around.

all in all, good time.

My Quest

a group of adult skiiers were out. they wore matching black jackets that were embroidered "ARYAN RACE TEAM". i had a close call with one of them. i had went down crossroads when it was clear. about midway i was on a toe-side carve near a lift tower when i saw someone on my six. i was down below a roller and he was on the top. i heard someone yell "WHOAAA!!!!" (might've been from someone on the chair) i skidded to a stop and watched the guy veer off to milkrun. it was a close call. just as i was trying to regain composure all hell broke loose!!! i'm talking divebombing pterodactyls, frogmen, a mummy, snakes, and a sinister giant robotic spider started coming down the run at me. i took off. as i raced down to the lift corral a frogman on a deserted boat on crystal lake tried shooting a laser at me. he missed.

anyways, i was ticked at the skiier. the race team knew damn well carvers were there and how we ride. i dunno... maybe they were from welch. unfortunately i was too chickensh!t to say anything to him.

i hate it when people creep up on me.

.

Nice to see everyone today. Don't know what was up with my bindings, but even after I adjusted them I still didn't feel comfortable at speed with them. I ate lunch and was pissed so I went home, cooked a steak and had a beer or ten and life was better. I worked until 2 last night so maybe that had something to do with it also. It was the first time on that board so maybe I just need to spend a day tweeking it and getting used to the board. I just felt very uncomfortable on my heel. Boy the excuses are flying. Doing some tuning tonight and will be out about 11 tomorrow. My kids outgrew their softboots so I will be hitting The House first. Cheers!

i would've done the same thing.

i've had problems with my toe bales breaking at the weld and when it happens i'm done.

very frustrating but its better to walk away then to risk injury.

<table><th width="125"></th><tr><td>Date</td><td>11/28/2008</td></tr><tr><td>Temp</td><td>25F early morning, warmed up to 35F</td></tr><tr><td>Visibility</td><td>blue bird sky!</td></tr><tr><td>Conditions</td><td>excellent</td></tr><tr><td>Hardbooters</td><td>4 (me, scuff, greg, rhaskins)</td></tr></table>

Morning

crossroads, milkrun, ballroom were groomed. the snow was fast and firm on crossroads and milkrun. maybe a little icy... enough to partially shred my glove. they patched the dirt spot on milkrun so its not bare. greg said ballroom was good but getting there is somewhat of a challenge.

compare today's conditions to last year at this date, its a great start to the season. last year on this very date i was riding softies.

Terrain Park

i asked the snow-ops manager (is chris his name?) when they might open the terrain park and move the gear off milkrun. he said not for a long while. they could turn it around in two days if we got two nights of cold temps (in the teens) in order to blow enough snow in the park. right now the snow base is thin all over the place and they're doing they best to maintain it. in fact there's not enough on ballroom to put up gates.

i gave him a compliment about the grooming.

Magic Carpet

greg and i checked out the linear one-way merri-go-round to the Buckstone Lodge casino. it was a weird stepping on to the carpet. its a rubber belt and it moves extremely slow. going through the bridge tunnel is cool. i can see that little kids are going to love it. just as we were approaching the top the carpet stopped. it almost threw me off balance. same when it restarted. i can see buck getting more use out of that run near the tubing hill. the bunny hill is too short.

Morning

crossroads, milkrun, ballroom were groomed. as usual, excellent snow.

i guess they're turning the run going down the backside towards teacher's pet into a terrain park. that is/was an great run to cruise. oh well.

good to see you out dave... can i pre-order my MES t-shirt??? i'll take two. :D
