I totally agree with you. I'm probably the least likely person who most people would imagine to have a tattoo. Most people assume that because I take good care of myself and my appearance that I'm snooty, arrogant and otherwise self-centered. It's only when they talk to me, they realize I'm really a nice person.

I think no one should judge someone based on physical appearance, perferences or behavior. That's just being a bit childish personally. My mother and father always taught me to treat people the way I wish to be treated.

I agree with this. I mean, sure some people dont dig tattoo, which is ok with me, but to be "putting down" (such as DiveBomber's example) is not cool. Should I be judged because the way I look and paint my fingernails black? No. Hell, I had an history teacher who first thought I was an arrogant arsehole in our first day of class, but she end up liking me a great deal cuz I wasn't what she thought I would behave as. Dont judge the book by its cover, hence the statement "tramp stamp" is simply being an ass by ASSuME!

I'm starting to think divebomber is a character, more subtle than the other characters on the forum (skeez, Dalv and I hope to god CF was one too)

anyway, my lady friend has a bunch, both arms done and a few others in various spots

unfortunately,it takes a weak mind to just judge someone based on their physical appearance.

Unfortunately it is simply human nature, and everybody does it to some degree or another. Anyone who says they don't is the bigger phony, and a liar.

I had a job interview at Burton. It was for an engineering position, so I figured it was more corporate. Recalling the axiom "it is better to be overdressed than underdressed", especially for a job interview, and also under pressure from my father, I donned the suit. Mistake. The woman who interviewed me all but told me I wasn't getting the job because of the suit. She asked me if I wanted to take it off. She even lectured me that it's what's inside that counts and we here at Burton don't judge people for their appearance. Uhhh.... you just did, biatch. Friggin' Burlington hippie.

Lesson - the uniform is always required. Just a question of which.

Prue had some cool tats, if I remember correctly.

what ever happened to that guy ?

he's too busy taking photos of hot half naked tattoo'd chicks all the time. Seriously.

I was kinda afraid you'd take that personally , Jack. It wasn't directed at you.

I went looking for some Prue photos and guess who came up ? Prue was (is?) a cool cat. Met him on the quad at the Loaf. Cracked open a PBR tallboy for the ride up and he's like "nice ! Pounda !" I said "lunch". I had no idea he was a big nyc photog and all that. Chatted it up later at the bar. He's got some quality tats and lots of good stories.

my mom taught me long ago that most people have alot more going on beneath their outer facade and you'll never know anything about them if you just decide who or what they are by their "appearance".

If I listened to MY old man, I would've joined the army to get money for tuition instead of just going to UMass Amherst and getting loans and a job.

Thanks Dad

Tramp stamps are really tacky and don't really serve a purpose to me.

Since when do ANY tattoos serve a purpose? I tend to agree with the "metoo" thing.

Just curious, but aren't you being judgemental by calling them tramp stamps and tacky?

I have ink and wish I didn't because now every idiot that has never had a subversive thought or action in their lifetime has full sleeves, multiple piercings, etc. Untouched skin is now rebellion!

For many people tattoos has a purpose. They are a way to express ones creativity, preferences, or whatever else comes to mind.

Of course I'm being judgemental regarding back tattoos. I never said I wasn't being judgemental for saying they are tacky and serve no purpose and by saying what I said it's a matter of preference. I would never personally get a tramp stamp. If someone wants to get what most people affectionately call back tattoos (tramp stamps) that's their body and will have to live with that. I just think for me it's a bit tacky. Especially when you are in certain social situations that deem this as not being ladylike.

No, I didn't, and I didn't think it was. No worries. It's just something that really bugs me - ever since that interview, frankly. Everybody judges on appearance. It's built in - part of how the species is supposed to reproduce and evolve.

That's not really purpose, and these days the vast majority of tattoos are just trend-following.

I thought I read you saying we shouldn't be judgemental. I was wrong.

Not sure how between your shoulder blades is that much different from above your arse. I guess the above the arse one implies something sexual? I remember when women first started getting them they seemed kinda sexy, and then next thing you know all these mindless morons, sorority girls, etc. had them. Now they're associated with strippers and porn I assume...

Gotta keep that "clean" look for the Gov't job/SSBI's-not that it matters but you know how perception is.

 not sure about that I have ink and there is nothing in my every 5 year SSBI that prevent's me from getting tattoo's. Hell I've even gotten tattoo's while on official travel using Per Diem (last years birthday in Italy my boss paid for my tattoo) then again as I said I'm a sailor

My purpose for getting my tattoo was to express my creativity about myself and since I often draw, I wanted something that was a reflection of my personality. I also don't follow trends, as trends change daily. I make and follow my own trends.

Of course we shouldn't be judgemental, but as humans we are genetically bred to have certain characteristics that cause us to make decisions based on the physical appearances, levels of intelligence and many other traits. I'm guilty of judging people, but I've also learned that you can't pre-judge someone based on some preconceived notion, sterotype or a personal experience.

As for my shoulder blades tattoo there isn't any sexual connotations behind it like lower back tattoos. I personally put my tattoo there because I didn't want to bring unwarranted attention to myself and only those who I choose to let see my tattoo will see it.

That's not really purpose, and these days the vast majority of tattoos are just trend-following.

a face with butterfly wings reflects your personality?

Sorry, but this statement just doesn't jibe. Did you have tattoos ten years ago? fifteen? When they were "not cool?" The "make and follow" probably wasn't intended to sound so arrogant, but it does.

God I wish I didn't have ANY ink anymore. I'm gonna look like a fckin freak if I get old.

Like I said-Not that it matters.

But you know how people perceive things. Also I have some "history" that always requires explanation during interviews. I feel like tats would just make things worse, but it really depends on the investigator.

Not really an issue as I'll probably never get inked, and if I did it would be on my shin/calf area. It's not like I wear shorts to work...

Lots of the active duty guys have ink here at my job, but it's almost like they get a free pass? Or maybe it's not a big deal and I'm just paranoid.

Well the fact that the "make and follow" sounded arrogant to you is a matter of your opinion. I don't sugar coat things to make them sound pretty and cute. If all else fails my comments can always be ignored.

As for how long I've had my tattoo, I've had my tattoo for 12 years now, so I didn't get it because it was the not cool/cool thing to do plain and simple. It was my way of expressing myself.

Look D-Sub I'm not in here to flame or to be flamed for anything I've said because it's not worth it. I'm here to meet other like minded people to carve with, develop friendships with and share a laugh or two.
