Loon/WV Opening Days

Nice guy ! Yeah I've been searching high and low for something I can put my buffalo wings on, along with other foods like chili cheese fries. Basically something I can eat off or serve food on. I'm known to have an aggressive eating style, but really want to step up my food consumption this winter. Any suggestions ?

Ran into the GLEB at Highland Friday, he got bit by the downhill bug and he's balls deep in the sport. Still up to the same shenanigans, but now he has a job and some funding behind him. I expect some big quiver/gear moves this fall. He also told me that he picked up a top notch camera, so he has volunteered to once again be the main grip for all snowboard porn. Barp, Barp, Barp !!!

  • 3 weeks later...

Its been pretty slow around here, So I figured I would buzz the tower tonight.

Topic of conversation:

BU hockey

Not for nuthin, but that $hit or should I call it shenanigans goes on at most colleges, either with elite Div I athletic programs, or "party schools" known not for their academics but more recognition for their activities outside of the classrooms or lecture halls. I can't repeat some of the stories that I witnessed or was heavily involved in my illustrious 4.5 year stay up at the ZOO !!! I just hope this doesn't get blown out of proportion to the point were this investigation is used in the same sentence as the 20+ year rape scandal that happened in them hills of PA. The media is fuhhkin clueless, this same $hit happens at every Hockey, Football, Lax, Soccer you name the sport or the school. You don't need to win a national championship for an excuse to ignite some of these incidents. Let it go, focus on something else. Hhmm, maybe like giving more academic scholarships to local kids, that aren't going to bolt for Korea or China once they get their US College degree.

For the record I'm not saying rape is ok, IT'S NOT. No means No.

Does anyone remember the 1999 UVM hockey hazing scandal ?? I do, my roommate from junior hockey, was in the incoming group of rookies that was hazed. I heard the detailed version of the whole entire ritual, right after the story broke. HILARIOUS !!!! Anyways, long and historical story short, UVM had a long tradition of really making their incoming Frosh earn their varsity letter off of the ice. Going thru something like that does have value believe it or not, other than the incoming freshman knowing their place on the team for their 1st year. It builds a camaraderie with that group, that should create a bond within that class, that will last a lifetime. In the end I think 2 seniors got thrown out of UVM, the remainder of the season was cancelled, and everyone else was able to transfer without losing a year of eligibility if you wanted. It took one %&$$Y in a 20 year run to ruin it. The Coach's job was never in question. Are you telling me, that in the 20 years that the coach who was at UVM, had no idea what happened on the only weekend that these athletes had off the the entire year ? I call bull$hit, he had to have heard, but because UVM was a middle of the road program in a less recognized conference, a slap on the wrist. Because BU has had a good run under Jack Parker, they want him to resign ??

I got an idea let's investigate every college, fraternity, sorority, athletic program, professor in our awesome country and fire everyone, force them to resign and throw everyone out of school and start all over again.

GFY's and good night !

BTW, $ucks to BU !

MRJD!

Saw a used Cord King on NH Craigslist this past week. Ask was 26k. If you find yourself buried in logs on a regular basis, it might be worth consideration.

I won't have 'good' axles under mine for a while yet.

And speaking of Cord King, I don't know why I haven't been sued yet. After all, my machine resembles theirs in mode and function.

Dr. Beckman AG, its been a battle but it looks like my Westport River Logging Company is a day away from ending my log pile epidemic. Check this machine out when you have a chance, the "Super Split". Its a belt driven log splitter, that fhukkin screws !!! I won't know the actual total number of cords until its all sold, but a 3 man crew working 7 total days have cut and split an estimated 22-25 cords. I'm doing this in a redneck farming town, that split wood is a BIG deal, so we are getting 2-3 visitors a day checking the pile and the splitter out. I figure I could have saved about a day and a half, if I had an excavator with a thumb available, but I didn't, so when we get towards the bottom of the piles, cutting down at our feet is a slower process. Once I figure out how to download pictures with the new Bomber website I'll post some pics.

Here is our System:

We start out with two guys on the saws. Usually a Husky 372xp with a 24" bar, accompanied by either a Stihl MS460 with a 25" bar or a Stihl MS362 with an 18" bar. All depends on the size of the logs, or where we are in the pile. So while two gorilla's go ape $hit for about a 1/2 hr or a tank of two stroke on the saws, the 3rd guy is talking the cut logs and piling them around the splitter. So after we cut for a bit, we then gather around the super splitter, grab a fresh pinch of Skoal mint, and we are off splittin and spitten. One GUY is feeding the logs onto the splitter, while another GUY is in charge of running the splitter, the 3rd GUY is taking the split logs and throwing them on the split pile. About as fast as we can make it.

One of the better combinations of high and low tech.

I like the Super Split in concept, though not so much in execution. The need to yard the blocks back to the start point for anything other than a two way split offends my sense of propriety. And the echoes of elbow tendonitis from too much bouldering on small holds flare up when I watch the 'go lever' actuation.

I don't think I would want to use one by myself without an outfeed conveyor, and some sort of batch infeed system.

Given your surfeit of muscle (and Skoal) on the jobsite, you probably couldn't do better than a SS. I trust you went for the original, and not one of the knock-offs?

Regarding the Hahn and the Igland variant, one has to wonder how the numbers work out with regard to the use of an expensive carrier to produce a lower value product, on the hourly basis, than the carrier could produce doing the job for which it was intended. If memory serves, the Hahn is at least 30k, and it appears that the logs must be bucked short? I think I would prefer sitting or standing at the controls of a typical processor to spending more time in the bounce house.

Speaking of which, and this is of utmost importance; between the 753, 763, and S185, what would Kildy operate, and why?

Speaking of which, and this is of utmost importance; between the 753, 763, and S185, what would Kildy operate, and why?

HHHMMM thats an interesting question. I can't speak for Kildy on his Bobby prefferences, I would assume he would go for a turbo charged diesel over a naturally aspirated one, So my final answer is the S185 for Kildy.

Its been a while since we have had the 7 series Bobbies in our fleet, but if my memory serves me correct the 40HP 753 was replaced by the S130 and the 46HP 763 was replaced by the S150. IMFHO,I don't care for either of those machines. For starters the wheel base isn't long enough so working at their respected weight limits of 1300lbs and 1500lbs, it can get a little tippy. The S175 with a longer wheelbase can handle it's 1,750Lb max load with ease, plus it has a vertical lifting arm, where the S130/S150 have a radius lifting arm, making over head loading quite messy, especially if I have an open container of beer in the cab with me!!! The S185 with High Flow hydraulics, becomes the one of the most versatile machines in Bobcats line up. IMFHO, the only draw back of the S185, is that it lacks in the vertical dump department, so loading a 10 wheel dump is not an option when both the dump truck and the Bobby are on the the same grade. Even with that flaw, for the money the S185 is the best bang for your buck $$. With the cold plainer attachment, I can double the rental revenue of the machine which is a bonus, because the cold plainer attachment cost is a 3rd of what the S185 costs.

Once you jump to the 200+ series, the prices start to jump way up, fuel consumption goes up, and versatility waivers. But if your loading dump trucks with a Bobby, you will need the 200 series vertical dump capacities.

So in a nutshell , I think the S185HF is whicked pissa !!!! But thats just In My Fhuckin Honest Opinion

Now lets talk track machines while I'm signed on.

IMHFO the T250HF is my favorite track machine. Usually when one has a track machine, he is off the pavement or the concrete, and he is in the woods or in the mud. With a 2500Lb operating lift capacity, along with a forestry grapple, this is a very versatile track machine. Visibility is good, along with decent fuel economy considering its turbo charged. I don't really see the benefits of its two bigger and stronger brothers, the T300, and T330. At that point with the size of these two machines, and the a very thirsty turbo charged engine, you mine as well be using real forestry equipment. Visibility $uck$, and operating costs go way up. If you get the T250 with the high flow hydraulic option, you know can run the Fecon forestry mulcher with it.

SHWING !!!

Did you try to cheat me out of a GFY in the original copy?

Not impressed...

As to the slopping beer in cab, haven't you an overpriced, anodized titanium, speedboat-gimbled cup holder meh-chanism?

Staying on topic, at what hour volume do you think about trading in, on either the 7 series or S185, and up to that point, what tends to break, fail, go wrong, etc.

I've run both 753 and S185 for quite a few hours, but those were borrowed, and I'm lacking insight on the cost of ownership outside of fluids and filters.

Thanks, and, uh, gfy?
