  1. I dont mind the stubbies, Hitting Gates hard five days a week but thats just me. Get A US Snowboard team suit with pads built in pretty much every were...
  2. Well, A lot has changed in 18 years! When a instructor says "Sit In Your Chair" he is right. On a freestyle board, you want to have the most comfortable, fluent riding position possible. With your knees bent, body relaxed, it allows you to make complete fluent carves with very little body movement. You, as a hardbooter can also take something out of the "Sit In Your Chair" instruction. Keep your body aligned with the angles of your feet and "Sit In Your Chair". Allow yourself to really collapse into the middle of your board on a heelside turn. try it, you might be surprised.
  3. First All of the Metal Boards I have (Prior 183 Metal, Kessler KST 183, Kessler KST 162) are all amazing boards for me at 160 lbs. I would reccomend having them made a bit stiffer for you at 220-230. My good friend and racig buddy (215lbs) didnt realize he needed a stiffer made metal board until he snapped two of them mid toe side turn. There goes 2 Grand. But They are surre amazing boards just custom them to your size and you will be fine.
  4. Ya its definitely the SPEED. Similar to factory Prime jsut new name and weird top sheet that tends to peel off starting at the back. I rode these boards in a 154 SL and a 178 GS. Snapped 2 of the SLALOM Sticks and that sucked because they had a really cool blood splatter design on the Top Sheet. Loved the boards I think I just might have gotten a bad batch or I just over powered them. They arent too stiff either.`It says they have a normal A-typical progressive flex but imho its more of an abrupt change... From really soft above the front binding and quite stiff in the tail.
  5. Dang!!!! Snowboarding Is Fun!!! Racing Is Life...For me atleast. Here is what I think is so cool. I have been on a race board since I was 7, and thats because all of the old guys who raced back in the day made a sport that I fell in love with and still love. Sure, I might be an aspiring racer from A small town were everyone knows me because of snowboarding. Ya I have dreams about someday making to the Big Boy Races. Wouldnt that be AMAZING!!! Sure theres a professional racer that grew up in my town and got me started on the sport. What I think is so cool is that everyday I can come home and get on this website and talk with people like Billy Bordy who has No clue who I am. But of course I know who he is. And yes Im not conversing with him directly but in a way I can say I know someone famous and I've talked to him.
  6. Well that is a good idea. But, my opinion for me atleast the whole reason I do Race To The Cup is to compete against a broader field. In the past it has been set up so that the junior riders who place the highest at a RTTC are usually invited to attend some summer training and then invited to junior worlds. Competing against some of the Pro's and amateuars at RTTC is the whole point of competing because its the next step after USASA and High School racing. I enjoy racing against the Broader field because as a younger racer it makes me better and faster from run to run if I'm racing someone who is better than me. That is why you see a lot of juniors shine at RTTC's because there racing on a whole nother playing field were they arent the best rider. Not even close! but because they are racing with other serious riders that are probably better then them they in turn get better and faster. I know I would rather stick to the FIS points.
  7. I will be riding on come November!!!!!!!
  8. Ya at my hill the trenches would be about four feet deep by lunch!!! And I know the park workers wouldnt have the energy to reset!
  9. Hey guys, is anybody planning on racing RTTC in Copper this year. I think its sometime in Early November and im planning on going. I wanna know if anybody has some good ideas on places to stay?
  10. Ya Im with Phil on this one. When I am racing my stance is 55 front 50 back and my upper body is always facing nearly 90 degrees to the front of the board. I have to admit it is a blast to set a super Wide GS course, put my angles super steep and just euro carve the crap out of the course. But, I usually have to ice my front hip down after a couple runs when I do that. I have some pretty sweet footage of Some EC on a course I will put up. Whenever I ride with my upper body facing the nose of the board as soon as I lay a heel side down I usually have some serious cramp issues with my front hip. Unforntunate to hear about your quagmire.
  11. SG Race T 185 with a Hangl Plate Here I Come!!!
  12. The second one is pretty sweet. Thanks for taking those. Ya I am going to compete in two if not three USSA RTTC"S this year and that should be a blast. Nationals of Course. Well hopefully we can plan on doing some riding when were in Colorado. I am Racing Open Class this year so it should be exciting.
  13. I like That Rick. None of the geeks who give me flack have National Championship Medals so I can hold my head high. You should come out to California and Rip with me a couple days. Or I will probably see you in Colorado for Nationals?
  14. Phil:True That. True That. Ya I guess I understand what you are saying. The terrain park isnt all that bad, its actually really fun to trhow 360's on your race board over a table. I guess its just the attitude with all of the guys my age. They dont like hard booters. Thats fine, in a small town its different too. Theres a clear line drawn, theres the Typical hard core really good freestyle riders, racers, and tourists, so your right its not all that bad, just frustrating at times. Utah Carver: I also think you better understood what I was trying to say. We can All go up to the t park race boards or not and throw down+gain a little respect. On the same not we can all go (Freestylers) included through a race course and tear it up+get some respect. What I mean is that a lot of the kids at my park would rather get stoned and wear cool clothes and be respected for what there wearing and smoking rather than what they can throw off the money booter.
  15. Well, I am only 16 therefore I see what your saying in a totally different light but still agree 100%. My local hill is great, small...but Great. Theres only 3 lift's but a ton of true black diamonds. For being in the sierras we get some great racing snow. We also unfortunately have a great terrain park. The populatation in my town is about 3,500 people, of those 3500 there is partly a great community, of which 30% are on alpine boards. The other part of my town are the rich kids my age who by ten snowboards outfits, 7 park boards and sorry attitudes that resemble wannabe Gangsters. All I get when I go to school or up to the hill for a race is "Your so lame, why would you ever wanna be on such a lame race board?" All the kids, are either really cool and on race boards, or super retarded and act like gangsters smoking pot all day why they try to snowboard. It gets a little sickening sometimes but I love carving and that is what matters. Know matter how many Ganster snowboarders raid ouy Beautiful Mountain, they always will know that us Alpine guys own the ski park and its our territory. They might not like us but they know there more hard booters than Park rats. So in a since we are lucky here in little Mount shasta.
  16. As far as the width goes it all depends on what your riding the board for. Most competitive Racers (World Cup-Nor Am) type stuff are going wider on there boards regardless of foot size or height/weight so they can run lower angles and more importantly incorporate some plates(Hangl-Vist-S-Flex). The hangl-Plate System is rather wide and bulky... In regard To Only width a standard Kessler is 20.5 CM Waist Width Or More. Riders are using Angles in the 45-50 Degree Range. So if you wanna run Plates then yes I agree with Bobdea, I would question anything smaller than 19.5. Round Tail, Square Tail...Both rock if there New, Metal, And Shiny!!!:) Really the square tail is a Good Option, weather you race, free ride, or both. Its much better in every condition. There really arent too many negatives other than the dings on the top sheet when you board falls over...I HATE THAT!!! I agree with bordy, My donek GS 175 Olympic has a crap load more pop in the tail Than My Metal Series 183. Both have progressive flex but the tail on the Donek is super snappy as were the metal series is softer and a bit slower from turn to turn. P.S. Anybody know if Kessler is making any Rounded Tail models???
  17. Bump Anyone Know Anything About my problem???
  18. The nose on a Kessler is actually referred to as KST technology and it is still a nose just very stubby. What you are refferring to are cosmetic differences, both boards claim do do the same thing on snow...Better Edge Hold On Ice... Better Tracking through race ruts... More Damp without sacrificing Responsiveness...Those are the similarities I was telling you about. Just because one has a traditional nose and another has virtually no nose doesnt mean they can have similar riding characteristics. You kinda have to try both to compare and its probably different for everyone. Oh ya just because of a radically different side cut doesnt mean two boards cant ride the same...even though When It Comes To Prior And Kessler they definitely are on two different boards.
  19. Ya, Um... Im pretty sure thats exactly wat I said In The Reply Right above yours Blue B:eek: !!! "Prior, Coiler, Kessler, Tomahawk, and Sg boards are all good choices" That doesnt include a sheet of metal AKA...Volant. The boards I referred to are NEW Metal boards...They INCORPORATE metal.
  20. Sorry what I meant was that Anyone on a straight Wood core would probably better there riding with a board that incorporated Titanal!!!:)
  21. Ok I need to replace the bottom White base of the Hangl plate were it is epoxyed onto the board. I have heard rumor that the product is sold in sheets from 3M??? Does anyone have a Clue what the product is called???
  22. Well I have to say I love the metal WCR!!! Its a great board that can really produce better riding and a more enjoyable experience!!! However if you are planning on thrashing stubbies everyday you might wanna get a couple of back ups. No doubt they are great boards for free carving and racing but my friend Sam and I went through 3 Decks total last season. We are really aggresive though and I think part of the problem was we got them when they first came out and I dont think we ever experienced that perfect flex for our weight. Now I am sure Prior has gotten the kinks out they probably kick some major @$$. Also one of my fellow racers at Nationals Michael Farrell is riding a proto Coiler PR 1 eighty-somethin Titanal Board of Bruce's. Now I bet that board rocks!!! Metal is metal and know matter which NEW metal board you purchase, it will be much better than a wood core!!! Prior, Coiler, Kessler, Tomahawk, and Sg boards are all good choices. I have ridden Prior and currently Kesslers. If I had the money to get one of each Brand I would but when you are in High School 2 or 3 Kesslers and A pair Of Hangl Plates kinda drains the piggy bank for the rest of the year!!! World Cup riders usually say the average life of there metal boards at the cup level is one season at the most...But then again they are really really good and ride at a whole nother level.
  23. Well For the high end world cup level Racing Board manufacturers its not the amount of different products they use. SG Boards for instance use a Poplar Beechwood core. Its not a thick sheet of wood but a thin sheet combined with titanal. Figuring out how to combine the wood and metal in certain parts of the board is unknown and that is why Kessler and SG Are miles ahead in the race industry.
  24. Well I figure I will be dumping $1300 USD for a brand new Kessler without the Hangl plate. I can get one of Sigi's boards decked out with a Hangl plate already drilled for $1300 and SG boards have been winning some races or been on the podium as well. I guess if we are talking about the two top boards they can only take you so far before it really becomes a question of riding ability also. I am thinking I will go with the new SG board so I can compare and then go off of that comparison for the next year. I will be a senior in high school next year so If I can get a Definite choice made by Senior graduation I should be alright. One SG board, One Kessler, Two Hangl Plates, I shouldnt be able to blame anything on Technology right... I think That should be a Good Thing.
  25. So I just got my 07 Kessler with KST and the hangl plate for slalom. I am going to get a GS board either A Kessler or An SG. Does anybody have some advice for me on which way to go?
