  1. say it aint so joe...not ready to shut it down I don't have enough aches and pains yet Glad you got away for a midweek rip session. Enzo's spirits are high and he's on the road to recovery. He's gunna be a player next year not a mascot.
  2. Enzo- up and running- got the cant assembly from bomber and maufactured the hinge side....nice to have access to the machine shop. JD- NOT all bark and no bite:nono: ...always willin to help a bro! Haven't mixed it up since the playing days waaaay back when...but I can still move:eplus2:
  3. Read you loud and clear enzo got the am saddled for sat and the fc for sun. Broke the cant AND hinge on my boot riding with you studs...the only thing holding the cuff on was the bts The frankenboot will get a workout this w/e!
  4. Duuudes- Learned a lot watching and riding with you all shreading loon on sat...I put it to practice on sunday. Had a great time thanks! Steve
  5. I am a new hardbooter (many years softbooting) with about 50 days. I seems to me that canting has more of an effect on my riding than lift does. I have settled on outward canting of about 1* for each foot with 3* toe lift in front and 6* heel lift in back (TD2 Cant Disks). Here is one reason: I take my 20" stance and put my feet at my 60* angles and align my shoulders square with my binding angles. If I measure the distance between my knees parallel to my shoulders I get approx 10"-11". Now if I measure the distance between my hip joints (about where the ball and sockets are) I get approx 12"-13". So my hips are farther apart than my knees...the outward canting lines up my joints. It just feels better this way too. As the angles get steeper the distance between the knees gets smaller and at shallower angles the distance gets greater measured like above. Lower angles I will us no cant and inward canting only seems to work at angles <50* for me. There are many more reasons for using outward canting (including ankle range of motion) in an article written by Eric Beckman from Sugarloaf USA. I am not sure if he would allow me to post it publicly but if you are interested you can contact him. And of course Jack's article in the tech section! I hope all the gurus and coaches will keep posting their ideas. I really appreciate them taking the time to share their advice..especially to a nube like me.
  6. schell, I have a pair of Deeluxe/Raichle X-Bone Carbon Fiber SI bindings that are almost new. They came on a used board that I bought a few weeks ago...I'm too heavy for them. $75 includes shipping anywhere in the USA. Let me know I will get pictures if you want.
  7. great pic...I'm burning that into memory! The nose is biting hard and look at the bend in that board!!
  8. I agree with Jack's excellent article(s) and I have been experimenting with the outward cant...I thought if it didn't feel right I could always go back to my original settings but I wanted to give it an honest try. After taking a lesson with Erik Beckman at Sugarloaf (can you say wealth of information) I am using outward cant on BOTH the front and back bindings. After the first two days of riding with it I was much smoother and the next day I wasn't sore at all in my usual spots. It really seemed to stack my bones better, relieved muscle tension in my neutral stance, freed up my ankles for better turn initiation, and I had better suspension. Like Erik says " if you want to ride scrunched up into a wad, and leave the hill exhausted at 11am, go ahead and cant your bindings inward". Go see Erik he is a guru!
  9. What is interesting to me is how small the setback is (Alp=.35cm and BX=.40cm) and how far forward people seem to ride on the insert pattern. Is this because of the forward loaded camber in the Madds?
  10. I am extremely interested in a live or video seminar too!
  11. I sent you an email yesterday morning at the "webmaster" address
  12. I see what you are saying about the soft hardboots and it makes total sense. I'm not trying to duplicate any type of hardboot set-up...I was just giving my soft set-up more power while maintaining most of the movement/feel associated with softboots and the boards they work well on. Many years ago (in my Burton 3-strap Customs) I would look at the hardboot set-up and think it was perfect for me. It wasn't until I found BOL (and all the other cool people and links) that I discovered what it was all about AND my new obsession! I printed all of Jack's articles and read them over every week for months....thank you Jack. Now hardboots rule but sometimes I want to switch it up.
  13. Bryan I will take a few pics if you like...I must say that it is an extremely easy mod to make and I'm sure there are better ways to do it. I just did a quick proto to see how it would feel and react....With the third strap I can wear it loose or snug for a soft or stiff boot feel...or (like I usually do) honk it down for max edge control. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my hardboots and they fit me perfectly, I just like to change things up now and then...I think it makes me a better snowboarder.
  14. Hi Pat- I've had both my L/R rotator cuffs (supraspinatus) screwed back down to my humerus bones. The first one happened in a fall like you described...I wiped out wakeboarding and face-planted with my one arm outstretched still hanging on to the rope...I thought I could stop a 310 hp boat...NOT! Anyway, the PC doctor and the physical therapist said I could not have torn the tendon because I would be hurting a lot more than I was. After a few months of useless physical therapy I finally had the MRI done and sure enough it was a full thickness tear with the muscle retracted. Both of my tears were so big they could not be scoped...I have a 4" scar on both shoulders. Anyway, I'm glad you got the MRI done ASAP...the sooner it is diagnosed the easier it is to repair (if needed) and the quicker you are rehabbed back to normal. Hopefully yours is not torn at all:)
  15. I tried the Shimano/K2 Clickers when they came out. The cool thing I liked about them was that I could easily click-in my back foot on the chairlift ride for quick getaways at the top. I never could get the laces tight enough eventually ripping the leather around all the supports....I even attached a booster strap to try to get the support I wanted from the spine of the boot (no good). I guess I was destined to be a hardbooter but didn't know it then- why did it take so long for me to wake up??:)
  16. Jack I have been thinking the same thing! I tried out the Madd BX and loved it so much I bought two:) Then I started thinking 24cm Axis...24 cm Coiler AM with superboard....
  17. Thank you Bryan...I "visit" you all the time:)
  18. yes the third strap bolts directly to the highback...you have a good idea there Jack:) The hook I had laser cut here at work then bent to hook around the silver (photo) heelcup to lock the highback down against the forward lean adjuster (max leverage). The quick release ratchet allows the highback to fold down easily/quickly for the chair ride.
  19. I would say the soft hardboot and 3-strap are quite similar. I think you would definitely get better lateral support from the soft/hardboots at higher angles above say 45*...I would like to change out the highback to one that is a bit stiffer torsionally because I'm so friggin heavy:). One advantage of using the 3-strap is being able to use the softest most comfortable boots available because you don't have to rely on the boot for support at all...the top strap takes care of that. This helps on long off piste hikes or just sanding on concrete in a long gondola line...less likely to do slippery pirouettes in the bar after too:) I think you can also "feel" a softer board better in the pow with that combination....you don't need the top strap for powder but I like the added "umph" there too. RC, I hope this helps you at least a little bit because I'm a veteran freeride softbooter but a beginner hardbooter...I've seen your movies, you rock! I have been spending most of my time (99%) in hardboots though...love it:)
  20. homemade job that's for sure...I still have some work to do for them to be more presentable....they perform extremely well though. The 3rd strap support was taken from my old Burton Custom 3-strap bindings...I think the last year they made them. The mod was very easy to do. right on trikerdad....but they are half the price of a really nice board, twice the response of most soft bindings, will last forever, and they are super comfy:)
  21. When I want to give my legs a break these and my Incline or NS T5 make a sick combo:))
