  1. Near Hunter Mtn (not too bad) in the Catskills of NY is/was a place called Cortina? Maybe someone remembers more than I. Ownership was "sketchy" is all I'll say for fear of broken knees and the sound of van doors sliding, if you get my drift. The hill was awful but the atmosphere/ambience was tense.
  2. People, perhaps in fairness we'll determine the right to purchase with a lottery. Just too much interest.
  3. fp 164, green & black, not sure of year. Good base, clean, sharpened edges, storage wax, lots of pop. A few scratches on the laminate, nothing unusual. Fine condition board but too small for me. Waist width is 19 & SCR is 11.79. Sorry no pictures - camera issues. $125.00 & ship.
  4. I'll second that. A-Basin is indeed superior this time of the year. Price is right compared to the others as well. You won't come away disappointed.
  5. Tex, perhaps a poll is in order. In the past, I've not taken the initiative to conduct one of these because I'm not so concerned about any one issue as per se. Maybe a poll would give some insight as to the consensus regarding how everyone feels about Bomber "members" informing one another about auctions/sales etc. I'll defer to you as to how the question is best posed or worded - presumably without slant. Also, I think the question would be best presented factoring in a multitude of perspectives (i.e., that of seller, interested bidder, searching but previously unaware buyer etc.). Just a well intended, non-competitive idea on my part. My season likely ended yesterday with 26 days and 3 Summit hikes (Pico in VT) and I'm sure you and I can both agree that THAT is sad.
  6. I've no doubt this subject has some mileage on this board so I'll apologize in advance for redundancy. Aside from the language barrier and shipping rates - any thoughts on this. By the way, what does it typically cost to ship to US from Germany/Northern Europe. My wife is Danish and we make it over every few years - maybe I should wait and visit some shops in person next time I'm in Germany/Nordic countries? So much intriguing stuff on ebay.de.
  7. I've spectated the dialogue that resulted from my original thread with incredulity. Firstly, thanks to those (d-sub, allee et al) who are not hostile to my contribution to what I thought was a forum in the tradition of free speech. To my way of thinking, the real issue is not one of free market economics or someone's peculiar idea of etiquette as it relates to online auctions/purchases. It would seem to me that some would impose what is tantamount to censorship where same is convenient to their own ends. Were these individuals the sellers or actively looking for such an item and previously unaware of it, I suspect that they would be mum. Quietly grateful even. These responses have included speculation as to what my motives were in posting, expressly stated opinions that I am "hurting the community", and hypothetical scenarios that would have me "ripped apart" were I to have posted similarly in some other forum. I wrote the words - take them at face value. I do not feel compelled to elaborate further upon them and if in the future I so choose, I will post similarly again. If instructed to categorize them differently (i.e., classifieds) by this site's controllling authority, I'll happily comply. I've always conducted myself in this venue with civility and with the utmost respect for the right of others to express themselves. That is certainly more than can be said for some others who post here (prolifically, I might add). All the best.
  8. Heads up - EBAY #7228040486 Wouldn't normally call attention to this, but hey, I'm not personally interested in the board. Also, would not come up using the key search words I normally use. Seller is self-admittedly not particularly astute about the carve. All the best.
  9. All of the aforementioned is true, not doubt. I've spent a few days in mid-april at Arapahoe and it was fantastic. No crowds, good deal, little in way of attitudes and great weather.
  10. I find now that when I ride a soft set-up, I'm much less sloppy. Riding w/shoulders more square to the nose and my heelsides have improved dramatically. Alpine keeps you honest, if you will.
  11. Not so similar but this thread brought back memory of a friend's misfortune at Squaw about 10 years ago. Getting off of the lift, the skier next to him abruptly hoisted his largess and in the process put a little whip action in his hip-to-leg-to-ski and lacerated my buddies calf straight through three layers. NASTY. Skier was a stand up guy about it - credit where credit is due.
  12. As an owner of Stratos Pros I've found this discussion fascinating. Like the originator of the thread, I'm 6'4" and 225. While I've no other boots to compare them too (other than ski boots), I will attest to the fine quality and the resiliency/suppleness of the plastic in all weather conditions. The boot's original liners (heat moldable) have served me well and the buckling system is certainly brilliant. I use Intec heels and Cateks and the interface between the boots and hardware is rock solid. I'm not obsessed with perfect half circles and mostly freeride in walk mode, however, on those occasions when I do tighten up the whole setup, I can't help but marvel at the rigidity and the transfer to the edge. I've gotten to about 50-55 days in them now. All the best.
  13. I am not a particularly good carver - I freeride with hardboots for the most part. That having been said, I do enjoy the G's and have found a mixture of cycling, yoga, squats and running steps are ideally suited to the demands of riding at speed and handling the physics that result from mixing speed and turns. Intuitively, it seems to me that rollerblading/skating and other sports that require more lateral foot and leg work would be helpful. Perhaps someone else could weigh in from that perspective. All the best.
  14. Many thanks, however, too small to be sure. I've ridden Head Stratos Pro 31.5 for a couple of years and they had to be manipulated considerably.
  15. Bike, squats, yoga and running steps. These do the trick for me with regard to conditioning.
  16. I've got the factory prime in 164. Green and black topsheet. Not sure of year, however, it is in good shape with good base and clean edges. A bit small for me - I overpower the FP 167 that I have and will be looking to pick up another in the 170's with proceeds should I sell this one. $150.00 plus shipping from D.C. area (probably $20 more or less). Let me know.
  17. Looking to purchase any hardboots in these sizes. That is a US 15 or Euro 50 to be sure. Presently I have a pair of Head Stratos Pros and regard them highly. Interested in any brands though, old or new. Many thanks in advance.
  18. Somewhat out of character for me to digress from the core subject matter, however, I had a thought that might prove useful. I won't presume that you have a passport if you've never left the country and if that is the case, don't procrastinate. The State Department has a lot on it's plate these days and historically, those that process applications for passports are often reassigned during such times. Sorry if this is redundant.
  19. I do not listen to tunes while riding - personal preference. I do, however, always seem to have music in my head when on the board and invariably one of the following will pop up: . Pieces Froid (Cold Pieces) Composed by Eric Satie for Piano . Sade (any song) . Beethoven's Piano Sonata # 14 in c (Moonlight) This has nothing to do with flow on the board. I think it's just the manifestation of happiness and calm when riding.
  20. To the originator of this thread lamenting the mid-atlantic weather, I can only tell you what I've learned to do to maximize the # of days on snow. Firstly, I invariably get 3-4 days at Arapahoe in CO before Thanksgiving. Great way to start one's season and at that time of the year, one can't go anywhere on the eastcoast - barring the aberrant early opening in New England. No redundancy. Secondly, In the early part of December I'll get in the car and go to Killington, Okemo, Stratton or wherever I must. I do not buy season passes because they put a damper on spontaneity (I'll hesitate to go elsewhere if venue associated with pass is in poor condition because of the expenditure). Also in this region, I find it difficult to make the pass pay for itself. In Jan, Feb and hopefully early March, I'll take whatever I can get locally and when they start to close I'll get in a late March early April trip back to CO or Tahoe to finish the season. Living here one must go to the snow. You can fly anywhere in the country for $300 or less with a little planning and I can burn that much in tolls and fuel running my car 9 hours north. (to say nothing of fatigue, wear and tear, risk, etc.)
  21. This may well be the most enjoyable thread I've ever viewed on Bomber. I've a 3 1/2 year old daughter and aspire to be like you fellas. Introduce the sport and see if she takes to it - no pressure. Perhaps I'll be inquiring with those of you who have experience for info on outlets for kids equipment and tact in introducing the sport to a child. Well done and all the best.
  22. Get in touch with Garyj - that guy wears a path to Mammoth.
