  1. rollers rules!!! a lot of my back pain/ issues comes from a lack of glutes which then puts pressure on my hammies.....the rolling hurts like hell (and gets me real bruised) but it makes all the difference. when I started trying to build strength in my back/glutes/legs thru weights I would sometimes throw my back out cause the wrong muscles were compensating lack of muscles in other areas. Swimming and walking have had made huge differences to me!!
  2. I have 4 bulging discs in my lower back which can cause my whole lower back to pretty much seize up. to manage the flare ups and issues I have to take it easy with my fitness and work outs during the off season. can only really swim, walk and ride bike. if I feel it getting tight I back right off what I am doing and let it settle down for a couple of days. what works for me is: 1. I stretch and roll on a rumble roller every day before I snowboard. 1 x 200mg of celebrex everyday in the morning. 2. I have a basic brace which supports my lower back. I only use it when I ride. otherwise you risk becoming reliant on it. 3. After riding my glutes/quads and hamstrings are usually pretty tight so I roll and stretch after riding. I also try and hot tub it where possible and if not I have my heat pack to loosen things up. 4. I limit my riding during the day. pain is usually being referred from another area so pain in your lower back could be coming from below or above. If you have already had surgery then you know that it will never be the same again. Go hard for the season and then use the off season to rebuild :) All the best as there is nothing worse than a bad back as my dr's keep telling me in back recuperation less is more which is tough!!
  3. real cheap!! thanks for the info as the last one I got sent from Europe was over $200! maybe better to look at boards from the US
  4. its funny how many of us seemed to have a break for a number of years (making babies/other interests/whatevea) but still keep coming back. I started in the early 90's and took a break for about 4-5 years in the mid 2000's. came back to it about 3-4 years ago and now cant get enough of it!!! everyday I think of it....and its summer where I am haha
  5. Aussie here!!! def keen for some Southern Hemisphere SES action haha, im in!! also it costs a fortune to send boards down here so nice work on the find!
  6. this might also help...where I buy my spares www.carversparadise.com check under spare parts for hard boots
  7. Hi mate, What is the weight range on this board and the waist width?
  8. Thanks tom most appreciated? Saw his email is listed under instructors so will see if I can get in touch with him. Thanks again and merry Christmas!
  9. I own a pure board bastard, great all mountain board. I ride with hard boots, nice n wide
  10. Season's greetings and happy powder days! I ride hard boots and would call myself an intermediate to advanced rider. I am going to be in Snowmass for most of Jan and am interested to learn how to euro carve and further develop my skills. Are there any hard boot instructors in the aspen/ Snowmass area that can be booked for lessons? I have enquired with pure boarding but figured I'd ask here as well. Any advice would be appreciated and have a merry Christmas
  11. yoga is great! def offers benefit! pilaties also solid. as u get older anything that helps flexibility can only be a good thing
  12. toe clip seems to go over centre n locks in. in the name of safety think ill bin em and start fresh :) re boardski - one of the left was a heel bai tyat i replaced, i think the spares i bought are not right! again appreciate the help folks!
  13. i have a pure bastard 169. love it. im a tall gent ala 6ft 7 and 230lbs and this was the only real off the shelf board i could find that was a good price as opposed to buying custom made. it has a wide waist width of 24.5cm. great board
  14. u raise a very valid and logical view riky. it is probably the smartest n safest option. only reason to keep them is to save $ $. the boot came out twice n i got away without injury both times. maybe i should just cut my losses, bin the bindigs and buy a new set. my safety is worth more than a set of bindings......
  15. thanks bro' i bought the power plates and they are sweet ! i previously bought spare parts for the bindings thru carvers paradise who are a carve company reseller but the parts dont seem to be correct so might try and buy direct from carve company.
  16. not great photo but from last weekend
  17. yeah have started speaking with him n just evaluating cost of custom vs another bastard. i think a good thing with a wide board is u can always drop the angles back if u just wanna cruise round. i just bought this drone and u can set a flight path for it to take. was thinking it would be great to set a flight path down the mountain and have it follow and film as i ride, would be a cool perspective but i guess as you say the fun police dont want to allow too much fun haha
  18. sorry buggered it up, was saying i think ill either replace the bail back to the original or just get rid of the bindings and replace with a new set to be sure. one other question completely non related. would you be allowed to fly a drone above a ski slope in the usa or would you get busted?
  19. bobd - thats an interesting point. it was a warm day 6degrees celcius (48f). do u know if deluxe boots are a stronger plastic? guessing burton dont mske hard boots anymore. snowboardfast - love the bastard. one of the reasons i bought it is cause of the width. i have a large foot (13) and dont want to ride too high angles. i ride currently approx 48 degrees in front n 45 in back to avoud any drag. in a perfect world the board would be another couple of cm wider but as a off the shelf board its great. im also a tall fella at 6ft 7in and weight about 230lbs and it supports me. thinking about either buying another one or get a custom from donek, depends on $. so ive had a think about binding issue and figure im going to replace the rear bail back to the one i replaced. ill test ride
  20. just a quick thanks again! appreciate your input and knowledge as im no expert :) here is a pic of my more "carving orinentated" board. its a pure boarding bastard 169. same size as ns raptor. never had the binding release on this board.
  21. beckmann -this is my thought process. west carven - no issues with td3s ( different brand of binding?) just have always used the burton style race bindings (now carve company) and have some on old boards which i want to transfer across as i update boards. photos of boots attached apline girl. realise there is some overhang and i can jack up the angles. do you think that heel/ toe drag could cause the binding clip to unclip? ive ridden on and off for years and never had it previous, i also happened both times on the front binding only which has less overhang.
  22. dont knlw if this will work as doing it from tablet so if photos dont upload ill do it from my work tomox. i dont think there is anything wrong with the plate set up cause it was fine for a heap of runs, logic says it is the binding part i changed' ill try send a photo of the different rear part i changed as it def looks different in shape. again appreciate your info n input as its an interesting issue
  23. and the best i can come up with is a couple options why, one was i bought some bindings spare parts from an online supplier (not this website) and when looking at them now they look slightly different in shape to the old original sets which i have 3. the onther thought is maybe when carving toe side the snow has clipped the binding undone which i dont really believe as again have never had this happen before. plan is to change the binding part back to the original part and see if it makes any difference. fark who knows but it wasnt cool when my boot came out! haha
  24. no idea what uni-cants are lol :) would love to know so pls tell. the bomber plate set up include a 0, 3 or 6 degree cant, i chose 3 in front n bavk but after riding will order a 0 for front as front knee felt a little weird. one issue i did hit which ive never encountered previously which u might be able to offer some advice if u are familiar with the burton hard boot binding. its never happened to me previously but twice my boot came out of the front binding. after the first time i moved the front component up one set of screws so it was much tighter and it was fine for a few hrs riding then on the same run a few hours later bam boot comes out of front binding. ive thought abput it since
