  1. I have determined that my Coiler AM177 doesn't know how to fold the nose, thank god. Unfortunately, I tried another board. Apparently I can't just jump onto a 158 slalom board and ride it like the Coiler. At Panorama, my first time on the itty bitty board. Hard snow, nose dug in, I managed to flip a few times before faceplanting. My helmet was the only thing that converted my probable (second) broken nose into just pain. (Helmet part over forhead arrested my faceplant partway into hardpack.) I've decided that I don't need anything that carves tighter than the Coiler.
  2. So the concern is that the software/firmware/etcphone won't detect over 100 mp3s?
  3. Well, from what I know you have ~33MB of space. Basically, you have two options: 1. Have 10 songs at decent quality. 2. Have >10 songs at varying levels of horrible, unlistenable quality (depending on your standards of course). Unfortunately, there is no current way of increasing the storage space (at least, not that I know of...you can confirm it doesn't have an SD or MicroSD slot or anything of the sort, right?) so no go. Sorry not to be more help.
  4. Well, I'm going to Rocky Horror the night of the 28th. Considering I tore the crotch seam of my only good black pants that go with my good leather boots, I'll be wearing a skirt... I'll also wear my new Cirque du Soleil mask that I got at yesterday's Delirium show (Which was Amazing...best show I've ever seen). I like to think I look much better in "drag" than my friends. I don't do stupid things like showing copious amount of exposed skin (I have an image of my (unattractive) male friend in a dress than swooped down to the small of his back burned into my mind as a "what not to do" sign), and I don't try too hard. Androgyny is much, much easier to pull off decently than femininity. Hell...I may as well post photos on the 29th. Cya then.
  5. Yeah, I went on their HUB Panorama trip last year. I don't think it was DHR's fault, (rather that of the student organizers) but they explicitly promised me a two-bed, two-bedroom unit, and then delivered a single-bed, single-room. Panorama was amazing at fixing it though...they sorta overdid it. 2.5 Story, Two bedroom two bathroom, large living room :) And the party-party? My trip was just sad. The DHR guy was trying to drum up excitement, and the majority foreign-exchange Asian students were just ignoring the guy, with everybody else just telling him to be quiet. Sorta felt bad for the guy, as that was sorta his job. But in any case, yeah, I'll have a look at their stuff, as well as MagicBus. Thanks for reminding me of DHR.

GJLAND: I am your clone. 6'1. 175. 11.5. (but only ~4 years snowboarding experience when I switched) A couple years ago I bought size 28 Suzukas and TD2(Standard, with medium-purple E-rings)s. I got a Coiler AM177[21.5cmwaist] (All-Mountain, so a slightly rounded tail) that had been build for somebody around 210, 220 lbs. I got custom footbeds, and the liners molded. I then spent that winter in Lake Louise, Alberta. My first day I was fully linking cross-over carves, with occasional cross-under. Groomers: Omgwtf. Response, control, stability, grip etc. Powder (even though you said you didn't get much): Even without moving bindings back, leaning back a little and the thing floated like a dream. Total cost: ~$1200 including bootfitting. Sure, this is a fairly high cost solution, but other than getting a BTS this year, I haven't had to replace anything expensive, and I don't really see ever having to upgrade my boots or bindings. Sure, stuff eventually wears out, and I'd love to have a 210cm Tinkler, etc, but everything was and is certainly good enough. Uh...I guess that's a little longer of an anecdotal suggestion than I meant to elucidate. Sorry.
  7. Just checking if anyone attends the UofA and will be going on any of the ski club's trips this winter. I'm thinking I'll try to go on all of them, and it'd be nice to have someone there to go with. Alternatively, if anyone's going for weekend or MagicBus trips, we could see if we can work something out. Hopefully I actually get a little closer to two years ago than to last year this winter....100 days two years ago, 2 days last year.
  8. I was at Panorama the 14th and 15th of this January. Day 1: Perfect groom, no crowds, but a little warm, so snow was soft~ish. No ice or rocks whatsoever. Got to be a bit choppy/bumpy later in the afternoon, as people pushed the soft snow around. Day 2: Cooler, wonderfully groomed, firm, non-icy snow. Again, no crowds, although there were a few more people. Lift-line was...what...maybe, 2 minutes? Saw two people from Toronto on TD1 Stepins mounted on Coilers. I stayed on the mountain, just to the right of the people-mover (gondola thing), so it was easy access.
  9. I bought my first alpine snowboard from D-Sub....went fine. (Coiler AM177) It's basically a trust thing. You have absolutely no buyer protection whatsoever. The question is: Do you believe this person? Do you believe in the inherent goodness of humanity? (lol) Try for local, if you can. If you can't, either order from a reputable business (eg. Bomberonline) or reputable people.
  10. I often have music. I do not listen to "tunes." (Note: "tunes" automatically leads me to think of "bumpin' tunes" which...well, yeah.) I've got the perfect setup: Headphones wired to the outside of the helmet, so they're ~2 inches away from my ears. With them at relatively high volume, I can still hear everything around me, and I get my music. Sure, I sometimes have issues with not hearing people, but no more than when I'm not listening to anything. It's the straightlining triple-my-speed skiers that're scary, and you can't do anything about them anyway.
  11. erm...don't people save these videos to their hard drives?.... "view-pagesource" "find "wmv"" "copy file address to bar/saving program" "save to hard drive" "watch at leisure" I'm using Firefox without the wmv player installed, so they don't even show up, and if I just copy the file location to the title bar, they save to hard drive... Try that.
  12. Yeah, but you have to take into account that there are actually more carvers on weekdays than weekends. I met a couple carvers that just didn't bother on weekends, and one guy who had a pass but just never brought his alpine gear on the weekends.
  13. Hm...Canadian resorts. Well, at Lake Louise last winter, we generally had just me everyday. Due to occasional Japanese tourists, europeans, etc, I'd guess it's between 500:1 and 1000:1 Average daily number of carvers is probably about 3 (and would've been 2 if I hadn't been there every day). Except that one day when we had 24 Japanese carvers come...that was a nice day.
  14. I really hope you had decent angles on your softboots before you switched... I just switched last year, pretty much same setup. TD2s, Suzukas, and a Coiler AM177. (But I weighed only 170...omg was that board stiff...(Coiler 8.9 stiffness rating)) Before I switched, I had myself up to 40/35 on softboots, so I only moved up a few degrees switching to my hardboots. I'd suggest trying your softboots with higher angles first perhaps. What angles did you try on the Axis? Low, high? Also, assuming you've got a forward lean function on your boots, try the front boot more upright and the back more angled, as this seems to reduce overweighting of the front end initially. Overly high stance widths aren't great either. Without canting, you'll probably have to end up ultra-narrowly spaced.
  15. Couldn't agree more on that. It'd make the continuum of alpine boards to freestyle boards a lot smoother, too. So everybody'd be on bails? I like that idea...although you could probably use straps on a boot like that... That would make it really easy for people to move towards carving, as well...
  16. So you'll be selling your boards? (Sorry, couldn't resist.) Although on the side topic of skiing, with new skis, I did sorta like it last season. Not as good, but ... safer. Much, much safer. And easier.
  17. I just count how many "pops" there are on my Raichle/Deeluxe Suzukas...although I have to admit there is the tendency to go "one more-click...one more-click..." until your feet hurt. And if you want the Bomber RAB you can't go UPZ....
  18. Speaking of board storage... We accept that having gravity pulling the center of the board against its natural camber is bad. As Jim Callen says, we also accept that having gravity pulling the center of the board with its natural camber is good (or at least better). Following this a little futher, would storing boards with a slight forced inverse flex be good? If not why? Or would it just be a very short term improvement followed by a sharp decline? Just curious...
  19. Edmonton here, worked at Lake Louise last winter. (Nice mountain, hellhole of a town.) I should be in LL/Nakiska 10-30 days this winter, despite the demands of university. A meet day would be great. Also a board swap day would be nice, to try out a few more boards (I've currently only been on one alpine board: Coiler 177AM, started alpine last year on this board.) ... Anyone have a 188/200+ I can try? I want that Tinkler...
  20. Nidecker 158 SL = 19.6 waist, 8.6m sidecut? If not, please correct me. I may be interested anyway. If so, I'm certainly interested. I'd like a couple pics, the camber currently held by the board and how much it would cost to ship to me (I'm in Canada. Unfortunately, despite the latitude, we do not have snow yet.) Give me an email @neuffy@neuffy.com if you want. Thanks. Neuffy
  21. Well, I'm riding a Coiler AM177 21.5 waist/~8.9stiffness index, and it's the only alpine board I've ever tried. It's great, but at some point I'd really like to try some other boards, since I've got a slight suspicion that this board's a little stiff for my 160 lbs. Basically, what I'm wondering is if anybody who boards at Lake Louise would like to arrange a time when we would both be there and we could swap boards for the day or at least a couple hours. I can most likely procure limited numbers of 1/2 price coupons for Lake Louise, as this is the mountain I ride at 95% of the time and I worked there for the first half of this season this year and know a few people. Thanks for any interest. Neuffy
  22. err...yes. Initially with softboots I ended up with 36/45, and now on my Coiler177AM (Thanks D-Sub) (21.5 waist) I'm at 50/55 (mondo 28 boots) with flat bindings (TD2s), set front furthest back, back second furthest forward (Narrow stance necessary due to no cants?). As well, I've got my Susukas set front boot second-least-lean, back boot second-most-lean. I've found that lower angles, while still not interfering with overhang, simply didn't feel as good. When I first started, with both boots set to medium lean, I felt I was pressuring my front foot way, way too much, and my thigh would simply die. Higher angles seemed to reduce the amount I could bend my knees by too much, and that's why I've stayed away from them. (Although I can ride 63-66 on softies...just issues with back ankle collapse/fear of breaking). In my experience, lower angles aren't as fluid for edge transitions, and higher angles reduce range of movement by too much.
  23. Hm..how much is a sims premium 167 worth? Or a Oxygen KR56C carbon? ..just checking ebayprices...
  24. Well, I've just gotten back from my 3 months at Lake Louise, and I've come to some conclusions: 1. My Coiler AM177 is probably too stiff for me...(I weigh 160 lb, stiffness index ~8.9)...but GOD the thing is stable at speed... 2. I want a short~ish, medium-soft board with a ridiculously small sidecut (~7-8m). Any suggestions on what kind of board I should get, if I'm not looking to shell out a huge amount of money?
  25. Hm...I still have headphones attacked to my helmet from last season, so that works fine. I'm currently using a crappy CD-R - Based mp3 player, so only 700 mb/disc :( ... and I can't afford a better mp3 player because moving to Banff is expensive (moving in just 1 week!) And, considering I have 65GB of mp3s/oggs/etc, 700 MB isn't much. Hell, I've got a lot of artists that have more than 700 MB of stuff... What I really need is an 80GB player. As far as my current playlist is concerned, it's pretty varied...Gravity Kills, Stabbing Westward, Hellsing OST, Moonspell, Oomph!, Yuki Kajiura ( .hack//SIGN and Noir soundtracks), Nine Inch Nails, Placebo, Macbeth, Lullacry, Lacrimas Profundere, Evanescence, Das Ich, Devics, Collide, Kidneythieves, Diorama, and quite a few others.
