  1. I wear low tech, cheap (3 pairs for 15$) wool socks from L'Équipeur, never had any problems (maybe too thick sometimes...), very comfortable. Wool is rather high tech compared to other natural fibers, I keeps the heat even when wet, but my feet never get wet anyways. Derf
  2. Most of the time, cant and lift is used to get a more natural stance. And like mentionned previously, it is usually oriented towrds the center of the board. Also, with canting and lifting, you can get a wider stance, giving more stability and power, but it depends on your liking. Lots of people here like 3 front and 3 rear, I personnaly ride 0 front and rear. In your case, your burning thigh may be due to the fact that you're putting too much pressure on it. There are several factors coming into consideration. With the exact same setup, I had burning in the FRONT thigh because the rear canting was pushing my weight forward, so I'm not really sure what to do here... Derf
  3. Try to find either used gear or unused gear from previous years, you can often get some with good rebates. And also, focus primarely on the boots, because if your feet are uncomfortable, you won't have a good time snowboarding. As for the board, I'd say between 155 and 160 cm for your size and height. And a board not too stiff, it will be easier to make the transition. If later on the equipment you bough does not correspond to your style or preferences, sell it and get something else. But like I said, good boots first, I cannot stress this too much. Derf
  4. If the tail skids, it is that you are overpowering the front and not with all the pressure on the front, there is not enough left on the back to keep it hooked. So either shift your weight to the back when riding or shift your binding towards the back. Derf
  5. What I wear is not necessarely a bib, it's pants with integrated suspenders. North Face Mountain pants or soemthing like that, water proof so I never was wet. They go high enough, so no snow when falling. And I also have some kind of waist cord on my jacket that prevents snow from coming in. Derf
  6. I think about snowboarding usually at the end of summer, early autumn, but I don't get the itch like some here. I wait until I can't ride my bicycle (november ususally), THEN i get the itch... Derf
  7. My suggestion would be to put him on a snowboard when HE wants to. I'm not sure it is good to force a young child to start snowboarding this young. Snowboarding, as much as I like it, is not natural (balance wise). If he has no interest for starting snowboarding, he's not necessarely going to like it and put any effort into it. Show him pictures or videos and wait for him to ask. Same goes for cycling in my opinion. I started when I was 15 because I was interested. I never skied before. Same for cycling (I even learned myself without any one, never even had any training wheels), but not at the same age, much, much younger. As for my girlfirend, she started skiing at 7 because she was seeing her sister do it and wanted to do the same. Derf
  8. I'll probably post the slowest highest speeds here: Car (1992 Mazda 323, 83 HP): fastest: 150 km/h (I think it can do more) ticket: cop said 130 km/h when driving 140 km/h in a 100 km/h zone, ~150$CAN Bike (mountain bike with road tires) fastest on my computer now: 66 km/h Derf
  9. I read Bordy's review, and from what I could tell, he was trying to love the board and have fun with it. He wanted to make it work. But it didn't. I have never seen Bordy ride nor have I ever met him, so I can't say anything about his riding or his character. But he is clearly not bashing the EC guys and their board on purpose, he's just giving his honest opinion. Derf
  10. I tired Deeluxe/Raichle and Head boots in store, and if you have wide feets, go for the Head. I have wide feet, and sometimes finds my Burton Furnace a little narrow (depends on the days). I heard the UPS/UPZ boots are wider also, but never tried them. Once you're in good boots, the board is less important. Imagine riding a good board in bad boots. Derf
  11. Snowguns don't prevent ice, they MAKE ice! Seriously, the snow created by snowguns is denser (smaller cristals) and packs more easily, making ice after a while. Before they had snowguns, they didn't have any ice. Mountains buy snowguns to open earlier and close later, not to prevent ice. Nothing like natural snow. I went in early January of 2003, that is when I got the ice. Usually, conditions are at their best mid-january to february/early march. Derf
  12. I second that. I'm one of those riders who rides 5-7 days a year and I have my wax and edges done once (maybe twice) a year (and I only have one board). And with what I've read here, some people are tuning freaks who like a certain structure on their base, a certain angle to their edges and a certain wax applied a certain way, and they tune or have their board tuned every other day. So I think when a board comes out of the factory, it is good for a rider like myself, but it maybe not enough for someone else. I know a Madd, with it's price and "character", is an advanced rider's board, some riders want a specific tune, other's think it's ok with just a plain wax after it's out of the factory. Derf
  13. Le Massif is indeed a REALLY nice mountain, but for carving, I'm not sure. For the two times I went with my carving board, one time the snow was to soft for my board, the other time there was too much ice. So I haven't really enjoyed carving there, but like I said, a really nice mountain for the sight. Derf
  14. You're right. I never edited any video (other then downloaded ones with VirtualDub). I don't know the Adobe Premiere, but I though it was professional grade, my mistake. VirtualDub is good for doing cuts and small stuff, but not really video editing as per say (from what I know). Anyway, it was worth the shot!;) Kino looks nice though, but it's Linux only again... Looking back at the original question, maybe VirtualDub would suffice... Derf
  15. Depends on the models. In the high end of Burton, the older Furnace and Reactors (up to 1998 I think) were NOT Intec compatible, but the newer Fire and Wind (1999 and later) are. Derf
  16. There's Cinerella, it is free and seems complete, but runs only on Linux http://heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php3 Derf
  17. Bob, Sorry if was not clear enought. In reference to this page http://www.bomberonline.com/store/bindings/parts_TD2.cfm, it would be placed between part #4 and part #19. I know it is not economically feasable, but it's a suggestion anyway. Derf
  18. Hell no!!! But it is the pullover type that you pass over your head (meaning not a full lenght zip, only half-lenght). And no, the colors are not fluorescent! The colors are similar to what you find on modern clothing. Derf
  19. And I also forgot that my jacket and mitts also date from 1995. Yes, they are still good shape, and no holes in the mitts. The only thing is a the side that was getting used from carrying my board with the edges against the jacket, but I try to be more careful now. Derf
  20. I do not own any Bomber bindings, nor have ridden any, but I would have a suggestion: Why not make an intermediate 3 degree disk that could be bought sparately and added to the 3 degree baseplate between the baseplate and the top part (where the blocks are screwed). By drilling the right holes in it, you could make the binding do 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 degrees of cant/elevation, like Burton used to do with their Universal cant (or the vari-cant, not sure...). Derf
  21. I miss his yellow mini with a board on top that is (almost) as long as the car. Derf
  22. My new avatar is me at the end of a snowboard day at Saint-Sauveur, partying with some friends, having a little drink (in my hand that you don't see). Derf
  23. This is exactly what I remembered. Wow, it's width is normal compared to modern freecarve boards, but back then, it seemed so narrow compared to other freecarve boards who were in the 21-23 cm range! If I'm not mistaken, there was also the smaller one which was red. I wonder if we could say they were the first to com out with boards this narrow? The other ones I could think of are the Nitro Scorpion and the Burton Stat. Any ideas? Derf
  24. You're not the only one. Actually, I have 2 boards, but the other one is so old and the last time I brought it out was 2 years ago. So I only ride my freecarve board, whatever the conditions. Derf
