  1. After seeing a commercial dryer (and how crappy it was made) and the CFM of its fan, I decided to build my own. I took a 5"X5"X3" high block of Blue Polycast (nylon type material). Bored 4 thru holes and milled directional lead ins at each for maximum flow. Counterbored the top side to fit the flexible tubing I got at Sears for their portable vacuum cleaners. Then I mounted a box fan from an electrical panel, to the bottom. Even has a little cage over the fan (OSHA requirement / ha,ha ). Took a small extension cord and wired in a switch. The fan is double the CFM as the commercial job and the tubing is double the area. Made up a sheetmetal box with legs to mount everything in. Bought a little cooler bag 6"X6"X6" to carry it in, pack the flexible tubig in my boot bag and I'm all set. Works Excellent. Cut two tubes long enough to go into the boots, cut 2 short pieces for gloves, and place my helmet over the gloves. Everything is easily dry by morning
  2. Been to JH a few times, always lucky with the conditions, place is awesome. We had a condo at the bottom of "Rawlins Bowl" which we always used to get back to the condo), what a hoot it's like a GIANT natural 1/2 pipe. It made it almost worthwhile to take a break for lunch. At the end of the day it was always insane comming back to the condo at quitting time. Definately make the trip to Targe for a day. Just hope your bus' brakes don't give out comming home down the Pass like ours did !! That was a once in a lifetime experience ( I hope). Even found some descent Pizza there, dowstairs of the Mangy Moose. Get some of the locals to show you around, you'll be amazed by what's there that you would normally miss. jp1
  3. You can get a lot of bike for $1000 ! Definately would agree, go with 105 @ minimum, Ultegra is nice, although I have both and can't honestly tell the difference because I'm always keeping them tuned up. A year ago I bought a 'Performance' ( Forte SL-1) all aluminum with carbon fiber fork, seat post, aero wheels, Terry Fly (have them on all my bikes) upgraded the calipers to Ultegra, and have less than $850 in it. Look around, lots of goodies out there............jp
  4. You've got mail. It's all packed up ( REAL WELL ) and ready to ship. I'll try to call you tommorrow.......John
  5. I'm by NO means an expert on this subject, but here's what I did. Went to Home Depo, bought a bunch of eyebolts (8) for wood. Figured out spacing and went down cellar and screwed them into the bottom of the 2X10 floor joists, keeping them in a straight line, 4 for the front of the boards, 4 for the back of the boards. I also purchased (2) 6' pieces of 3/8" threaded rod , and 20' of clear vinyl tubing with a 3/8" ID. slipped the tubing over the threaded rod, then put the threaded rod thru the eyebolts. Put the boards so they rest on the rods(board is protected by the tubing) topsheet facing down. Slide a piece of wood under the center of each board (width of the floor joists) to keep the desired amount of camber. Of course they're well waxed, right now I'm looking for a place to make me some inexpensive plastic bags to seal them. jp

  14. try it, you'll be hooked! Go to any level you want, how hard you want to work at it will determine your skill level. Something you can try before you buy! Find some buds that ride and rent a bike for a day, you'll be amazed at what you can do on a bicycle! jp
  15. Greg, from experience, I'd recommend that you try (rent or demo) first before you put out a lot of cash. I bought all the stuff, just to learn it's NOT as easy as these guys make it look. And being in the Lehigh Valley as I am also don't really help. Not many Alpine riders around to bench race with. Not to be negative, but it's a lot more like skiing than it is boarding (my opinion). I thought I was going to jump on it and go. I can ride it Ok, but can still carve my soft set-up better than the Alpine stuff, although I've only been out a few times. All I'm saying, is that it is my belief that like most things in life, It's NOT as easy as it looks when the 'hot dogs' do it !! Just saying try it first, before you invest...
  16. Just had to voice my opinion. I'd take blue 'anyday' over CB or JF / BB (I don't own a pair of ice scates). What is wrong with Paradise, Sidewinder,Switchback and Lazy Mile?? JMO--------------jp
  17. nekdut, how tall are you? Maybe try going a little wider in your stance if you are tall. I'm a newbie, but I have learned the 'hard way' that by having mt stance too wide (was 21 3/4' now 19 1/4')it put so much pressure on my front thigh I thought it was going to explode every run. That being the case, maybe widening your stance will help even out the forces on your legs? Just a thought from my own experience?! jp
  18. Thinking about making the trek up to the Loaf for Monday and Tuesday, anyboby know the 'real forcast' ?? Thanks ---- John

    Loose screws

Nils, are you then saying 243 is OK to use? According to 'Loctite' the only difference between 242 and 243 is that (243 is 'oil resistant') why would you need an oil resistant product for a snowboard application? Derf, why would you put Loctite on plastic? Out of curiousity I did put some on and old binding plate to see what happens though. So far it hasn't even softened it, but it's only been a few hours!? Thanks---------John

    Loose screws

As a maintenance mechanic I use Loctite products about every day what is the snowboard industry's problem with using Loctite??? Of course I would make sure all surfaces are absolutely clean and apply a 'drop' of 'blue' Loctite (242) in any other application, why NOT a snowboard / bindings / etc?? Just Gotta Know!!!!!! Thanks------John
  21. Sorry, yes I have Mapquest, but know from experience it's not always correct. What is the "BEST" way to get to Sugarloaf from the Portland Maine area? I would be comming from the south, probably 495 / 95 from New Jersey. Thanks in Advance--------John
  22. I've read a few posts that make referance to videos. When I started boarding (soft), "Get Dialed In" was recommended by a friend and I think it was the BEST $20 I have ever spent in my life (so far)! Are their any GOOD instructional Carving/ hardboot videos that you would recommend? I'm a beginner that 'believes 'a picture is worth a thousand words', and interested in 'learning' the basics (gear set up and technique) NOT 'double hucking a 60' cliff, or doing tripple 'whammie slammies', just want to learn to dig some SERIOUS ruts. Thanks in Advance-------------John
  23. If you're serious about the FP 167 for $30 consider it sold if it still has a base on it and is usable. I tried to e-mail you, but that didn't work. If you are serious, please e-mail me. Thanks, John (jp-1@fast.net)
